Description
The Baltimore County Bar Association’s 1,500+ member attorney’s and staff have a continuous commitment to serving the legal profession and the members of Baltimore County.
The first records of the Baltimore County Bar Association come from a meeting on May 21, 1920, almost a decade after the formation of Baltimore County as a body of government. The official separation of Baltimore County from Baltimore City occurred in 1851 on July 4th. It took three separate elections to have Towson declared the seat of County government and to provide for local government. The County Courthouse was built in 1854. The first session of court occurred in January of 1857. A separate courthouse was constructed and put in use across a plaza from the original structure in 1974.
Courtroom number five in the old courthouse is used for Bar Association meetings. It has been fully restored and contains portraits of past jurists and members of the Bar since the founding of Baltimore County. The portraits were commissioned by the Bar Association starting in the 1920’s and include the most prominent members of the bench and bar in the State.
