Update: got an email from the dev, thanking me for the feedback. Adding a star because I expect the game to improve over time. I'm leaving the game installed and will update my review when a new version is released.
Original review:
I hate leaving a bad review for an Indy developer, but this game was painful to play. It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into it but it's glaring flaws make it unplayable.
For example, the each set of three levels consist of the same three enemies recycled endlessly. At the end of the third stage, you encounter a boss. Here's where the game lost me completely. The first boss has two attacks: the first has him stomping with icicles falling from the ceiling. Cool! Except there's not enough time to dodge them even if you're already on the move, meaning survival is entirely RNG based. In one of my several attempts, I had the boss to 20% health, when four icicles fell on me simultaneously which resulted in death from 50% hp. The other attack is a roll, which takes him from one side of the screen to the other. Slow, cumbersome, and you have to wait for him to walk back on screen. Plus he's invincible while rolling. I once waiting two min for an actual chance to damage the boss.
The reason for your star rating on a level is not defined. I get through a stage with no damage, killing every mob I see, rescuing every villager, and get two stars. Why?
Put it all together and, while it could have been fun, it's just not ready to be played beyond friends and family yet. I'll be watching for updated versions and hoping.
