Jaremaing,
Great game, but...
Don't get me wrong. I love this game. It's one of the best adventure games I've ever played. If you're even remotely interested in the genre, by all means get this game. It's well worth the $2.99 they're asking for. The puzzles are clever, the story is great, and the humor had me laughing really hard. The control is excellent, but it takes a while to get used to. It hits the perfect balance between King's Quest and Monkey Island. The former where it's so easy to lock yourself out and die, and the latter where you can do neither. In Steel Sky, you can die, but you will never reach a point where you can't complete it. Thank you! I really want to give it five stars, but there are a few problems that hold it back.

On a few occasions, I have touched somewhere on the screen at the wrong time, and it has locked up my game. Basically, whenever you perform an action, the icons disappear momentarily. If you perform the wrong action at a specific time, the icons will stay gone. I fund myself waiting for my iPod to close the application, forcing me to *gasp!* do something productive. If the next version fixes this, I would be so happy. I hate productivity.
xheatherkillsx,
Good PnC for iPhone
I’ve played many a point and click throughout my time and this one was pretty good. I was going to play it on PC but why not play it on sleepless nights in bed. Good story, good humor, creative world, and a hint system for the not so obvious steps thankfully bc the maps can be on the larger side sometimes. Id say it’s worth the price if you like games like Whispers of a Machine or Unavowed, this seems like a solid predecessor. Gonna try out the Apple Arcade version of this series next.

Controls are horrible
This could be a fun game but the controls are glitchy and inconsistent. Takes all the fun out. At least they are on Apple
Jin9249,
Can't continue
"sepcial phoenix" doesn't work even though I have one. please fix this.
Keith80,
Not playable
Joey got stuck by the elevator and the glitch is saved into the game. I would have to start over and I’m not doing that. Ugh.
OneWithWaves,
Hilarious and well-designed!
Let's just start off by saying I love this game. This is probably the only game I can see myself playing for more than an hour at a time on my iPod and it's for all the right reasons. Not only is it engaging and immersive, but it's also downright funny most of the time. Sure, a few puzzles might seem leaps of faith at first but as you get used to the style they seem less far-fetched. Plus, for the price it's certainly worth a try. This app is better than a lot of $5 or even $10 apps out there! I do have one caveat, however, and that is I experience random crashes occasionally on my iPod. This is probably because it's a 1st gen and has less RAM than later models, but the game has consistently quit on me during moments that are crucial to game progression and as a result, I can no longer play it. I don't want to write about a specific problem I have here, but it seems the support on Revolution's website is a bit scant and so I could only think to bring it up here. Please check what heppens when you try to give the magazine to the guy at Travelco! I have the magazine but the game quits whenever I try to use the magazine with him or even just talk to him, even after a reboot. I love this game and I'd really like to be able to play it again!

Just to recap though, excellent game. Get it.
SturmB,
Pretty good adventure game
I'm probably one of the few people who never played the original 'back in the day,' so this game was a completely new experience for me, in every respect. The art is top-notch, but the voice actors could use a little more training. Also, it could just be my perception of the game, but it seemed a bit short to me. The controls are about as good as an adventure game's controls can be on a touchscreen and you get used to them in short order.

The difficulty seems to be just about right for an adventure game. It seemed more difficult to me than a game should be, but that's probably just my advanced age talking. Regardless, the built-in hint system is great, offering up only the hints you need most of the time instead of always just hitting you over the head with the correct course of action.

In all, a great adventure game that I would recommend to any fan of the genre!
Ncadmin,
Surprisingly a good value
After playing the broken sword bundle, I was expecting better or at least different graphics. It has an older style look that makes you think it won’t be a good game from the get go. Soon to learn it was from a PC game so there you go. The puzzles are intelligent and thought out. A lot of the puzzles are simultaneous which I always give high marks for. This is true for a good part of the game and then you’re kind of moving one by one. Some of the dialog is not convincing, like, “Here, have a present.” It needs to be more towards what’s going on and who you’re talking to about what, have a present doesn’t cut it. Still it doesn’t take away from a great storyline and interesting characters and fantastic voiceover accents. All old-time adventure game lovers will like it and be able to ignore its little quirks. For a few bucks, a lot of game play.
RattleMeBones,
Adventurey Goodness!
Buy this game! Easily worth the $. This game is fun! I've been playing for a few hours, and I keep playing to see what happens next. Great storyline and cool graphics (WATCHMEN artist!). The voice acting...not the best, but whatever. The controls are natural and surprisingly easy to use.

There's a cool feature where it tweets your Twitter account when you reach certain points in the game. Kind of like Xbox achievements. Nice touch--haven't seen that on any other games.

The hint system is good to have, as some of the puzzles are pretty tricky (but mostly fair when I see the solutions), and it's nice that you can save more than one game.

Overall, this is a really solid, well-made game. I love adventure games, and I'm glad to see them making a comeback. I hope to see a remake of Broken Sword and some new stuff! More like this!
Seabass 41,
Pure Class!
I was a huge fan of the point-and-click adventure back in the day. Three brands stood out - Sierra, LucasArts, and Revolution. Playing this game on the iPhone feels just as good as it did back then, it takes me right back to a time when story and character development were so important. In many ways, modern day high-end RPGs like Mass Effect were born out of games like this, and Beneath a Steel Sky is a great introduction to story-based gaming for this generation. It looks great on the iPhone, the voice-acting is fun, the writing is classy, and it feels timely with the current surge in interest in graphic novel-inspired entertainment (Dave Gibbons was artist on Watchmen). Not just great fun as an educational journey back to one of the highlights of the era of the Graphic Adventure, but also top value entertainment by today's standards.
