Description

NATURE IS FOR EVERYONE
With Birda, anyone can get outside, identify and record the birds they see, and share them with a fun and inclusive community. Modern life pushes us away from nature. Start pushing back.

Join challenges and make new friends - it’s free! Feel less stressed. Don’t know a bird? Use the community as a HI (Human Intelligence) bird identifier - grow your birdwatching & bird knowledge faster. Help protect nature by turning birding into a fun adventure. All with the help of a free bird app. Cool, right?

Birda is not your typical bird identifier app, it connects the global community of birders irrespective of how they already record their sightings! Simply sync or import your records from eBird, Merlin Bird ID, Birdtrack, Birdlasser, and more to get started.

WHO IS BIRDA FOR?
Birda is a free bird app & community for anyone curious about nature and birds, no matter your level of knowledge or previous bird watching experience. We want to help you enjoy birds, so you are inspired to fight to protect them. Regardless of how you spell birdwatching (or bird watching) if you like fun & nature, Birda is for you!

Have fun using your smartphone as a powerful tool to help conservationists protect a myriad of bird species. To get started:
1. Download Birda, it’s free!
2. Head out, head up.
3. Log your bird sightings - one at a time or multiple sightings as part of a birding session.

YOU CAN ALSO:
• Find birding locations & the bird species that occur there
• Use the field guide to identify what you have seen
• Set and track your personal birding goals
• Get bird identification suggestions from the Birda community
• Unlock achievement badges
• Take part in local and international challenges
• Build up your bird life lists by time and location
• See what birds your friends, family, or other users have spotted
• Help the community as a bird identifier
• Log sightings and sessions even when you’re offline
• Choose from multiple taxonomies (IOC, Clements & Birdlife HBW)

IMPORTS & EXPORTS
If you are coming from another platform, then there is no better way to get started than to import your records to Birda. We currently support imports from bird apps like eBird, Merlin Bird ID, Birdtrack and Birdlasser - with support for iNaturalist, and more coming soon. If you want to move your records to another platform, you are free to export all of your sightings from Birda.

LIFE LISTS
Birda automatically creates life lists of all the birds you've imported or recorded on Birda. Birda automatically generates sub-level lists based on time and geographic location. For example, you can see all your bird ticks for the last month or year as well as your bird ticks for your home and patch lists. We’ll also start automatically generating bird life lists for regions, countries, states/provinces and nature reserves in the near future.

TAXONOMY
We understand that taxonomy can be complicated! This is especially true when people are trying to compare species across taxonomic authorities and where a global community is using common names in multiple languages. It is for this reason that we built a cutting-edge solution to simplify taxonomy for our users. Our taxonomic engine makes taxonomy seamless, allowing users to view each other’s bird sightings in their taxonomy of choice, irrespective of what taxonomy is being used by other users.

PRIVACY
You can choose to create a privacy zone around your address to automatically hide the location of any sightings you post in your garden. This privacy feature prevents you from disclosing your home address when logging sightings around your home. Setup your home location and Birda will also automatically create Home Lists and Patch lists for all the sightings you post within your Home List and Patch List boundaries.

You have control over what you share with others on Birda. Through your Location Privacy Settings, you can control who sees the exact location of the sightings you post on Birda.

Antoinettereadstoomuch,
Get Birding with Birda
Birda is perfect for all levels of birders. It is very user friendly . It includes guides for birds in your area so even if you do not recognize a bird you can still identify through their user friendly guide. If you are unable to decipher what bird you saw their is a feature where you can post your sighting of an unidentified species and the Birda community will help you figure out what bird you saw! Birda s challenges inspire you to go outside as each month they set a new goal for you to meet. Birda is the perfect birding app.
Sax pirate,
The birding social app we’ve been waiting for!
Birda has been a great app for connecting with other birders and share sightings. It’s easy to log birds and see what others have seen. Initially it did take awhile for the GPS to catch up when on a walk, but that’s seemed to have been fixed. The developers have been super responsive to bugs and suggestions. It’ll have a place on honor on my home screen.
Skadiulf,
Great app! One small suggestion.
I’m having fun collecting badges and interacting with the community as well as having another home for my bird photos. I have a small suggestion: it would be convenient if when uploading photos, to start with the photo first (instead of the location) and if there is some way to import the photos meta data so you don’t have to manually enter it, that would save a ton of time, especially uploading photos from past adventures. Thank you for this great app!
xvanniiiiiix,
Fun Social App!!
I’ve only used this app for a day. It doesn’t crash on me and it’s definitely the fun version of Audubon. I love interacting with other bird lovers. This is definitely something that the birding world needs. This is like a social media platform for sharing birds - you can meet new people on here. Such a great positive community. I’ve told a few friends about this app. Looking forward to using this app longer.
Birdman NJ,
Great for birders of any level
At first I chose Birda just to have a nice list of all the species I’ve encountered but quickly learned the app is much more. Birda has been a great place to connect with other birders around the globe. It’s great to see others getting new lifers and to see where other species can be found. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for companions on their birding journey.
bellaschliebe,
Love it!
I really love using this app and keeping track of all the sightings I have. It’s easy to use and really positive. I just wish more people were into birding - it’s a real life scavenger hunt. The only suggestion I would have is maybe to include a chart that shows you by month which birds you’ve sighted, that way I can easily see which birds are visiting by season.
EX customer Zach,
Amazing, adds the element of friendly competition
I only have one critique, I wish the location counts of birds showed number of sightings vs a rarity score that is not clearly defined. Did I just see a rare, vagrant bird? Or did I misidentify? Oh wow, 2 other sightings in the general area! Instead I’m given an arbitrary rarity score. I’ve seen common birds receive an 8 or 9, and extremely unlikely birds and tough to spot birds score in the 3-5 range. I just don’t understand the scale.
gintoyeen,
Enjoyable App!
Love that this is the social networking app for birders. The platform is pretty active and love the different tab choices.

Would love to see an updated profile page though! Would love to see more of a “timeline” look as I’d love to see my posts in chronological order. However, love the feature where I can view all of my photos.
EandB17,
Terrific App for Birders
Downloaded Birda around the time my interest in birding was sparked, and it has been a terrific app to help me (1) share my experience, (2) document my sightings, and (3) learn more about birds in general. That said, I also believe Birda is a fantastic app for birders of all experience levels. Great community!

The best bird logging app
Birda is honestly the best bird logging app I have seen. I love all the features it has from being able to do a session and log all the birds you see in one sitting, to being able to connect with other birders from all over the globe!
