Description

Want an easy way to record the birds you see, and keep track of what you have seen? The BirdTrack app makes recording your sightings easy and your birdwatching more rewarding; plus your sightings support research and conservation at the local, national and global scale. Whether you want to record single sightings of those special birds or make a list of all the birds you see whilst birdwatching on a local patch you can do both from the palm of your hand. This free app links directly to your BirdTrack account on the web and acts as your digital notebook, enabling you to quickly and easily record the information you want for the birds (and some other wildlife groups) you see.

With our app, you can:

• Select the species you saw from an illustrated checklist of the most likely species based on BirdTrack data for your location and the time of year.
• Offline mapping and observation recording, enabling use in places with no data connection.
• Keep records of birds seen anywhere in the world.
• See suggestions of local birdwatching places; add records for these popular places to help monitor their bird populations.
• Add sightings for some other taxa groups, including amphibians, butterflies, dragonflies, mammals, orchids, and reptiles. (UK only).
• View and edit previous sightings directly on your device.
• View a map of recent sightings made by the BirdTrack community.
• Keep track of your year and life lists, plus see lists of ‘target’ species seen by other BirdTrack users.
• Option to share your sightings via social media.
• Add optional information to your sightings, including breeding evidence, plumage details, and sensitive record settings to control the visibility of your records.
• Sightings are seamlessly synchronised with your BirdTrack account, so you can see all your observations whether you are viewing via your device or via the website.

3.0.0
2019-01-31
Version 3 of the app involves a redesign of several aspects, including the home screen, the navigation and the map screen.

The addition of a ‘Add records’ button to the home screen allows new records to be added straight from start up of the app without the need to navigate to a separate page.

The app now uses a single baselist which refers to the IOC list. Please note all previously entered (but not uploaded) records will still be available on the phone, but will not be editable. Instead, you will only be able to upload these and edit them using the online interface.

An updated map screen now allows you to search sightings by time frame, species and whether or not they are notable, as well as mapping your most recent sightings.

Extra information regarding plumage and additional observations can now be added for each species entry (where applicable).

The app is now completely navigable via the 5 buttons at the bottom rather than the previous swiping controls.

As this redesign involved user interface (UI) layout changes, despite thorough testing, UI issues on older or rarer devices are still possible.
Please don't hesitate to provide feedback if such issues are encountered.

Fixed an issue where refreshing base lists caused the application to crash
2.1.3
2017-04-18
This version addresses a number of issues:

1. When entering latitude and longitude information outside of the valid range; the values were accepted, but the location failed to create when uploaded to the server. The values outside of the valid range are now rejected.

2. When uploading start and end times which are on the hour and five past the hour, the values were incorrectly submitted and thus rejected by the web application, but with no error was given. These times are now recorded correctly in the web application.

3. When recording dates on a different side of the international date line from GMT the date was recorded incorrectly when uploaded to the web application. Uploads now take account of the international date line.

4. Comments with single quotes are now uploaded to the server correctly.

Improved the performance of base list updates; when the user selects 'Update' on the settings screen, new base lists are now added approx 10x faster than the previous version.

2. Summary information now matches the BirdTrack website – summary information is now calculated in the same way as on the BirdTrack website.
3. Improved localisations – support for Dutch and Spanish locales is now provided.

Other information that may be useful:

3. UK and Ireland summaries are based on the BirdTrack Legacy baselist.
4. Global summaries are based on the International Ornithological Congress baselist.
