RandomnJoe,
Bought two!
These are really nice air filters. I love how they have the auto function and you can also turn down the brightness (for those picky sleepers). The app is a really nice feature that helps you track how the air quality is in a room and can even change the settings on the filter. Nifty if you aren’t home and forgot you had it running on high. These aren’t as big as I thought they were going to be, they really did look like side tables, the picture is a bit deceiving. But they still look nice, and I still use it as a short side table where I lay my book at night. I’ve had the blue air filters (different style) in my house for many years now, and don’t plan on changing companies anytime soon.

Lazy (updated Feb 2023)
The App is a joke. The connection process is ham-handed and horribly lacking. It wastes time scamming you into believing it may actually connect directly to your home WiFi when it will absolutely not. I’ve had these filters for over 5 years and not one time have they connected to my home WiFi without going through a marginally effective manual connection process that takes repeated attempts to actually connect. The customer service and responses are snippy, dismissive and decidedly indignant. It is incredibly frustrating for such a good product to be negatively impacted because of lazy software development.

UPDATE:
I recently purchased 3 new filters making my total Blueair filters in my home at 6. Although they have improved the connection process, the App itself is still slow and control through the App has improved only marginally. The response from their Customer Service is still not the best. I have yet to receive a response to my request to buy additional filters. The units are excellent products. So good that I actually purchased 3 additional units after I wrote the initial review. I’m a relatively loyal Blueair customer, even though the App remains the weakest point in the mix.
CSilvey78,
Outdoor data way off!
According to many reliable sources like WebMD and etc, the data this app displays for the outdoor data is way off! For ex: It says the PM outside is 15 while everything else shows it closer to 60. Also, I question the indoor data as well. It has been fluctuating between 50-65 for the indoor PM. I have the following installed in my HVAC system; Aprilaire Merv 16 filtration, UV bulb installed in the coils, and a Air Oasis UV Air Ionic Purifier. Hard to believe it’s that high when the air smells so clean inside. Thoughts anyone? I feel like this unit was a waste of money or is no longer supported? Oddly enough, the screenshot’s used in the description of this app shows almost the exact same outdoor data for my location. In fact, it’s actually showing 17 PM outside right now which isn’t right. I tested my theory by opening the door for cross ventilation. If the outdoor pollution was indeed lower, then my indoor pollution should improve. However, it quickly spiked another 10 PMs within 5 minutes leaving the outdoor pollution was indeed wrong and worse than the inside. I don’t trust their products.
ysgrace,
Nice features, device often going offline
This app has a lot more features than I expected. I didn’t expect it to be able to track outside air quality in addition to the inside air. The graph is very nice, and I can see the peak moments when I’m cooking or cleaning. However, my purifier is often reported as being off-line. And sure enough, the device is blinking. No other devices on my home network do this.I have performed all the troubleshooting tips more than once. I’m weary of having to unplug this thing almost every day to get it back in the app (which doesn’t always work right away). Any firmware updates coming? The purifier does an excellent job otherwise, as expected for such a high price. I look forward to the app improving along the way.
ORHobbes,
Bad app, great machine
The Blueair Classic 680i is a fantastic air cleaner. (albeit a very large unit) However, the app is lacking in numerous ways compared to competitors…

1) No Apple HomeKit integration

2) If you are an Apple user, you cannot add the device to your home automation scenes. (ie, automatically turn on when I arrive home and turn off when I leave home, etc)

3) No Home Screen widget to see current air quality stats

4) No integration with Siri Shortcuts app or commands. (they have this enabled for Alexa and Google, so they clearly are just ignoring Apple users)

5) The setup process to connect the device to your home WiFi is not intuitive and more cumbersome than other apps. It also does not support 5ghz WiFi.

6) The app requires your exact location, not a close location. That’s a huge privacy concern! Why do you need to know my exact location? Anywhere within a 1/2 mile is close enough for the outdoor air quality levels in the app. You don’t need my pinpoint location.

7) No notification options. Other apps send you a notification if AQI, PM2.5, VOC, etc goes over specified levels. Blueair sends me nothing.

8) No firmware update button in the app, so you cannot force it to check for updates. You have to wait until it decides to check on its own.

9) No way to save or export the weekly/monthly data.
The Real QRSAlpha,
Lots of potential, but. . .
Love the products, but having a hard time loving the app. Lots of quirky data display choices and temperamental location accuracy, but my main issue is with the night mode. For the sanity of everyone, can we please just be able to set “auto” and “night” modes according to “sunrise” and “sunset?” It can’t be that difficult. Got the app several months ago and was mildly annoyed that it wasn’t this simple, so I set up two schedules manually to trigger night mode at 7 pm and auto at 7 am for both of our purifiers. That worked fine but as soon as daylight savings switched over a few weeks ago, I can’t seem to get those schedules to work for anything. Here it is almost midnight and once again, the lights on the unit are blaring bright and I’ll have to go into the app and manually put it in night mode.

Love the Filter
Great filter quiet and efficient. Bought the400 and liked it so much I added the 700 now. Nomenclature is a problem for the uninitiated. Names and models on labels don’t clearly equate with manual, website, and and App. Sign up for automatic delivery if filters needs work, suggest programmer try it out on grandparents. Wish the instructions were clearer on set-up and meaning of colors on 770. Very good people on the help line BUT 20-30 minute wait to actually get one of these nice people to talk to you. More how to use videos on-line instead of artsy uninformative sales pitches would be useful to those who have already bought the product and this might shorten the phone wait time. Once you get it working you will love it.
fraggle416,
Great features, but buggy and slow
The features of the app are excellent, but the app is slow to update information. Often it does not show the correct controls. For example, when changing from “Auto” to “Manual” control, the buttons on the app don’t change when tapping in Manual. You have to close the lane and reopen it to be able to actually change the fan speed.

The air quality graph updates erratically, if at all. It’s really unclear when the readings are actually from. Sometimes they may be displaying from several days or weeks ago, making the graph and information untrustworthy and useless.

If they can work out this display and update issues it would be five stars!
SJLinNYC,
Buggy and Unreliable
This app looks like it should be a five-star experience to match the premium price of the purifier it monitors. It offers a number of metrics and explains how to interpret them. Unfortunately, the app itself is so buggy and unreliable that it’s impossible to tell how valid these data points are. Every time I open the app, after 5-10 seconds my purifier shows as disconnected; the only way to show it as connected is to force quit and relaunch the app. The different data views (day/week/month) are often unresponsive or continue to show the day view regardless of selection. It’s unclear from the longitudinal data If disconnections affect the reliability of the readings over time or if the app continues to plot the most recent available data. This app has a lot of potential, but right now it’s just a glorified remote control that often doesn’t work.
NobodyUnoe,
Malfunctioning app, lousy support
I have a Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max, and this app has been awful! It doesn’t want to connect with my phone except with it set permanently as a mobile hotspot, even though it’s connected to the wifi! An error keeps making it so I have to unplug the HEPA and plug it back in every time I launch the app, otherwise it says it’s offline, and won’t connect. Got a VPN for your safety? You’re never going to be allowed to use it again. Their customer service isn’t knowledgeable, and is absolutely useless; go with their phone line if you must, but be forewarned, they know less than their FAQs. PS: don’t even try to use their ZenDesk “email” support- they never respond. As far as their “email” support goes, I still have a question about replacement filter types that’s been sitting ignored by them for over 4 months and counting!
