Description

Boxing Timer is an application designed for your boxing training, sparring and workouts. Boxing Timer gives you a fully configurable round timer on your iPhone™ and iPod® touch.

The application can also be used for other sports and training, such as Mixed Martial Arts, Grappling, Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Wrestling and any other sports requiring timed rounds.

The application counts each round for you and uses a classic digital display for time. Boxing Timer is designed to alert you of the current period at all times. Your iPhone or iPod touch can be rotated to provide an extra large time display. Bells signal the start and end of each round and also a warning period.

Boxing Timer has the following features:

• Configurable time periods for the preparation, round, warning period, and rest period
• Coloured backgrounds signifying the particular stage of the round
• Round counter
• Bell sounds are configurable to indicate the start and end of rounds and the warning period
• Vibration (iPhone only) to indicate the start and end of rounds and the warning period
• Sounds effects and/or vibration (iPhone only) may be turned off
• Extra large landscape display
• Classic digital time display
• Auto-lock can be disabled to prevent screen locking during rounds
• Tap anywhere on the screen to start/pause
• Timer position can be saved when application is exited
• Runs in the background on devices that support multitasking

Note: If your rounds are being interrupted by your device's Auto-Lock feature, then please switch "Auto-Lock" to off in your Boxing Timer's Options screen.

Ampstertango,
Battle proven
I’ve been using this for years now for kickboxing, boxing, circuit, and interval training. It works well for me (and my Sparring partners). Just make sure you have you phone and this app updated.
Microjedi,
Started ok, but useless now
I've owned this for a while and have had some success with it. It gets 2 stars because I like that it is very customizable. I have been using it to run intervals recently and it has been arbitrarily turning off as I have paused it in the middle of a round. Sometimes during the first round. Sometime during any other one. I know it's not me because it always stops when there is some version of 57 seconds (1:57, 3:57, etc). It happens during the round or rest. When I'm running and can't watch the timer, this wrecks the workout. I just deleted it. I reached out to the developer through the app and received no response. Time to find a new one.
vector4insanity,
Thank you developer
When you get an app, you never know how long the developer will stick around to support it. I’ve had this app for years. It’s a simple app, but sometimes that’s all you need. To the developer, thank you for your continued presence. The dark mode looks great!
demarcate,
Almost perfect but for glitch and minor issue
Been using this timer for about a year and it's almost perfect. I box three times a week and programmed shadowboxing, bag work, & cooldown timer routines and love that you can easily switch to whatever you need. Visual of countdown couldn't be bigger or brighter, bells are loud and clear.

Two complaints, 1) the update says it fixes this glitch but it doesn't; every time you use a custom timer it duplicates that timer so you always have to scroll through and periodically delete all the dupes; and 2) switching between custom workouts involves jumping 2 screens, and you can't tell what timer you're on by looking at time clock.

But these issues are manageable and otherwise a great app.

Need To Add Sticks
They need to add sticks as a sound for true boxing timer.
DennS,
Works very well. Very clean setup
I ran a 15 fight event using this app and after sitting with it for 10 minutes, all was good. I was able to program all of the parameters prior to the fights so each type of fight had custom rounds and round length. I was a little nervous at first because you never know how an app will actually work in the field but this one was awesome. I can't say enough about it. It is easy to use and stop when prompted by the ref. The only constructive criticism would be a need for a secondary background timer. Several times a fighter was struck in the groin and the timer was stopped. A fighter gets 5 minutes if needed. I had a second analog timer with me to count. It would be great if that was somehow worked into this app. Otherwise this worked awesome. One touch stop and start. The sound is authentic but I used a real bell because there were 600+ people in attendance. The refs and judges all commented about the app as well when I showed it to them. Great interface. Very clean and intuitive.
SURUAT,
Truly Useful Utility with Decent Interface Design
This is by far the most useful timer app for fighting sports training on iPod or iPhone!

Love the way the large visible digits displaying horizontally. And the time period corresponding color changing background is a nice and helpful visual aid when you place your iPod or iPhone in a corner, away from training space. Tap Anywhere to start / pause the timer is simply "the way it should be" for a timer to be used by fighters, trainers and practitioners. A must have tool.

Default sound library came with useful and good quality sounds. More authentic sounds for a variety of actual fighting sports in the future release will be a nice bonus and maybe boost the sell.
RegularDood,
Use this app often
This is very handy for boxing drills. I use this app multiple times a week. Simple and easy. One suggestion I have is including a round limit. There have been times that I train a certain number of rounds at night and put my phone on silent without remembering to shut it off. It will just keep running until the battery is out. Despite this, it is simple and deserves 4 stars.
brad.shively,
Excellent utility
This is a great app for fitness training for any martial arts, boxing, or interval training. You can configure as many rounds as you like. It has initial prep time to put on gloves and start music, rest between rounds, a warning bell X seconds left per round and a bell on the final round. The large display makes it easy to see time remaining between rounds with color coding for where you are at in the round and the rest between. I recommend external speakers and you can play your iPod music during the workout. The app will pause the music to play the bell when the round is over.
jayesstee,
Great for "slow exercise" power of 10
This is the perfect timer for the "slow exercise" approach. For example, when doing a bicep curl, taken 10 seconds to lift the weight and then another 10 to lower it. The idea is to have muscle failure by about the 8th rep. (You'll have to experiment with the right weight.)

I set the round length to 10 seconds, the warning to 1 and the rest length to another 10 seconds.

Simple and functional controls. A champ!
