What's new? It's only the update you've all been waiting for!

This update introduces a powerful new "Composer" tool which replaces the basic grids that were available in previous versions of the app. Composer allows you to build powerful compositional tools, with support for multiple* separately-styled elements and new guides to boot. The new image transform elements also allow you to apply both perspective correction* and anamorphic de-squeezing* to the live view and image previews too! As well as this you can:

- Add sub-elements (For example, apply a 2x crop and show a rule of thirds grid within the cropped area)*
- Support for re-ordering composition elements
- The ability to re-position and scale individual composition elements**
- The ability to export and import compositions*

* Requires the 'Composer Pro' In App Purchase, or in previous app versions of Camrote, the 'Grids' In App Purchase.
** Only supported with certain element types, also requires 'Composer Pro'

• Fixes incorrect available exposure compensation values
• Fixes reverse-date ordering of transfer screen when using "Send to Smartphone"
1.6.4
2020-11-19

• Fixes issue not being able to change shutter speed after enabling and disabling BULB timelapse.
• Fixes shooting mode disabling after manually changing shutter speed to BULB.

For me:

1.6.3
2020-10-23

1.5.2

We've had a bit of fun with this one, but also fixed some show-stopper bugs!

- We've added a new subtle animation when changing some exposure settings, and an icon representing each white balance value. These together make it easier to see your exposure settings at a glance.
- Some nasty UI bugs were fixed around changing the app icon.
- A killer bug was fixed when using "Send to Smartphone" stopping you being able to transfer new images if you had more than 50 days of photos on your SD card.
- Half-press shutter has been fixed on a few a6xxx models.
- Better detection of the "smart remote control" app version you're running.
1.5.1
2020-08-03
In this version:

- Fixed two crashes we accidentally introduced in our big 1.5.0 update

In version 1.5.0:

We have a feature-packed release for you in this latest update!

-------- Focus Stacking!* --------

Allows cameras which support remote control of "Touch AF" to perform focus stacking by providing a grid or set of areas to focus on which will then be captured in quick succession. Ideal for landscape or macro photographers!

-------- Persistent Image Previews ---------

We decided it was about time you could see image previews for longer than the 3-4 seconds they stuck around for previously... now they hang around for the whole app launch, and you can scroll back through them too! We'll be bringing further improvements to this in the future (grouping timelapse shots e.t.c.)

-------- Full Screen Mode --------

We've added a distraction-free full screen mode! You'll see we had to move some stuff around to accommodate this, but we think it's well worth it! Full screen mode works particularly well on iPads where the screen closely matches the aspect ratio of the live view itself.

-------- Other small tweaks --------

- Disabled device auto-lock when downloading images
- Added support for bracketed capture (new Sony models)
- Added support for setting continuous shooting speed and mode (models earlier a7iii/a9)
- Added quick-switch for switching between cameras
- Added live view quality setting on newer models
- Changed order of radio buttons when setting exposure compensation to be more logical

* Focus stacking is only supported on certain models which support Touch AF remote control, please see https://camrote.app/camera-support for a list

1.4.0
2020-06-03
We gave you dark mode from the get-go, but now we present: LIGHT MODE.

For those of you who want to emit as little light as possible (Astro-shooters perhaps) we've also added a night theme and an even dark-sky friendlier "OLED" theme. Alongside this, we now fully support the iOS system dark mode which means maps/alerts e.t.c. will also be darkened/lightened as you choose.

Alongside adding themes to the app, we've also made some design tweaks to the main camera screen in order to make the UI a bit more modern, but more importantly we've re-jigged things a bit so we can squeeze in some more UI for an upcoming exciting feature!

Also in this release:
- Support for enabling multiple grids/overlays at once*
- A bug fix which meant some European speakers couldn't change aperture due to use expecting "5.6" rather than "5,6"
- More grids, including crop factors and additional aspect ratios

* Requires the overlays In App Purchase
1.3.1
2020-05-10
- A new rainbow icon for funders
- Fixed a crash when connecting to the a9ii (Firmware 2.0)
- Added more testers to "Credit" section
- Tweaked a few icons!
1.3.0
2020-04-20
It's the version you've all been waiting for! Finally, the fabled PTP IP support is here, this means we now support the following Sony cameras:
a9ii, a9 (Firmware >5), a7riv, RX 100 VII and possibly even some others we're not aware of!

For all you users who have always had support for your camera we've added plenty of other bits and bobs:
- More easy to understand "searching for cameras" state
- Quicker loading of GPX tracks
- Ability to view the exposure mode the camera is in*
- Slight UX/UI improvements
- Fixed bug where deleting contents would never finish
- Now displays when no SD card is inserted in your camera, and fixes bug with low memory warning when switching between video and photo mode

*Only supported on some models
1.2.7
2020-03-16
In this release, we have some minor updates and fixes:
- Improved support for transferring videos!
- Fixed annoying bug where you'd get memory low notifications if in video mode.
- Fixed glitches when dragging to select multiple images, and other transfer UI problems.
- Shows you that no SD card is inserted if we detect that's the case!

New camera users, keep an eye out, we're nearing a release build for all you a7riv/a9ii/rx100VII users!
1.2.6
2020-01-02

- Shooting fix on RX100 VI.
1.2.5
2019-12-26
Improves the UX for image transfer!
1.2.4
2019-12-19
In this release we've:

- Fixed a bug when switching between BULB and non-BULB timelapse.
- Made the drag-to-select when transferring images scroll a lot smoother for easier image selection.
- Added an "Auto transfer" setting which will automatically begin transferring images when using "Send to Smartphone".
- Enabled swiping between photos when viewing in "detail" mode.

BenRobi.Photog,
Nice start but ...
Very nice start with this app. Able to connect to an A7RII and A9 from iPhone XS and also from an iPad. The app controls current camera functions allowed from app. Did not notice any lag in changing camera settings via the app. The Sony body recognizes the changes immediately. Was able to capture test photos using app. Connection to A9 much more straight forward than A7RII. Did not lose connection to either camera during use of app.

Currently tap to focus does not work for neither of my Sony bodies if it is developed into current version of app. Also IAP purchasing does not work. Tried countless times to use IAP purchasing to support further development efforts however it currently does not load. Unable to use options available via IAP.

Again very nice start on the app and look forward to seeing future updates!
joey_kangaroo,
Take notes, Sony
I have an A7R3 with limited Timelapse functionality built-in. At best 60 second intervals, which is not great for long formats such as documenting the growth of a plant.
I’ve tried Sony's mobile app but it only does simple remote commands and settings. Their desktop app is okay, but I don’t have a way to keep the camera charged while it’s plugged in to the computer.
This app, apparently made by a single dev, has the Timelapse function I need (albeit behind a $3 purchase) And that’s actually fine. The function works well and I can keep my camera powered by a usb c brick. I have a spare iPhone SE (2016?) running it without any issues. Sony needs to take notes on this one.
My only complaint is that the live feed periodically stops working after a long time but the camera is still capturing at the 30 minute intervals. So not a major issue.
edouble101,
I wanted this too work
I use my Sony a9 mounted on a long pole and when I am doing this I cannot access the camera. I hoped the solution was to use this app to view my composition and control the shutter. During a 2 hour event I had numerous “lost connection” occurrences and most importantly I was unable to control my a9. There was always lag from when I repositioned my a9 to when I would see the composition on my iPhone 12 Pro screen which made it difficult to use. I had to use a Bluetooth camera remote to trigger the shutter and this app to view the composition because I could not reliably trigger the shutter through this app. I was not able to adjust exposure settings with this app and I could not view the photographs I had taken on my iPhone 12 Pro. In the end I was able to get the shots I wanted but this app did not work nearly as well as I hoped! Overall, for a free app it’s usable, but with very heavy limitations. Is there a more reliable app?
tlrqkq,
The photos on phone and camera look different?
I found out that the photos I took using this app looked differently on my phone screen and on the camera. The image looks perfectly good then when I check it on the camera after closing the app, it looks like it was automatically edited (very badly) ! I'm not sure what the problem is. But it did make the focusing on myself super easier when I don't have anyone assisting me.

Edit: I found out the photos look fine when I checked on my pc... this is very weird, but I changed the rating cuz of that !
Gdbf137,
Worked, once
The app works immediately with my Sony Alpha camera, and then stops allowing you to transfer images or to operate the shutter, leaving one to peruse the purchased app in frustration.

The Camrote developer publishes in-app that *his* gear is comprised of an iPhone 8 and a Sony a7ii, because he’s suggesting donations, over the cost of basic in-app feature unlock purchase. I donated, and only unlocked the ability to change the app icon.

The developer’s Twitter support is curt: they simply request the model & version of your camera, and then no more attention once it is provided, leaving little doubt that the details of (entry level) gear, which is similar to “his” purported setup, was sufficient explanation!
Nick Apejido,
Works with a6000
!UPDATE! After more than a month Camrote is even better than my first impression. Super coolness to have various Grid overlays and near total control over manual settings. Developers suggest updating your Sony on camera remote app and I agree. I’ll buy you Coffee as long as it is Free Range Organic!
I thought I’d try this. Impressed right out of the box. Of course it didn’t come in a box. That’s just an allegory. But I could see the image and use the most important camera controls on my PiPhone. And it was very smooth. Slight delay in triggering shutter. Hey you should carefully frame your shot anyway, eh? I know this will be excellent for some video work I want to do. Thank you!
Jessicarnahan87,
Great and easy to connect
I recently bought a different app but it just stopped working so I decided to give this one a try. I have not used this to transfer photos to my phone since thats not why I got it but its easy to connect to my sony a7ii. I tried connecting using my mobile hot spot which it kept saying it couldn't(may have more to do with the camera or hotspot than the app) but it did recognize my camera and gave the option to connect to it. Tried that and hasn't given me an issue since. It seems to be a simple app with multiple upgrade options. So far its great!
chaticathy1438,
cam tote app
I was looking for a mechanical shutter release so I can take birding pics with big zoom lens on tripod without wobble. I accidentally found this app which will do the same thing and more wirelessly from my iPhone SE gen 2. Does everything it says, connected easily, can adjust all the camera settings I routinely use, I really like it. I downloaded the free version but this is so well done. I think I’ll pay so the developer gets reimbursed for the hard and smart programming. I have both a Sony A7iii and Sony A6300. Worked for both.
WhereTheHeckIsMyFood,
Life saver
Image edge now is completely a piece of trash..thanks for developing a substitute for Sony’s should-go-to-garbage-immediately app and I do have found changes from update to update. There are still two small issues, one is it seems to be a limit of 50 photos for each transfer, especially when I select “all image on this date” on the camera, only up to 50 could be sent to my phone; another one is that it would help a lot if photos can be transferred without losing their orders in the camera. Anyway, big thanks.
Raterguy,
It works! Thanks to the developer for creating this.
Using this w/ Sony a6000 to a) transfer pics to a smartphone, and b) control many camera functions remotely. Took a little time to realize the wifi connection process is different for each function. To transfer: go to “send to smartphone” in the wireless menu on the camera. Then connect from Camrote. To control remotely: go to the Application list in the application menu on the camera and open ‘smart remote embedded’ in the application list.
