Canning timer & checklist Hack 2.0.2 + Redeem Codes

This is a wonderful resource, especially since I am new at canning. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because when I was canning peppers, it did not tell me how much headspace to leave. Other than that, perfect!

I LOVE this app, with one detrimental exception (see next paragraph for the exception). The app walks you through every step of the canning process, helping to ensure that you don’t forget anything. First, you choose what you’re canning, size of jars, hot/raw pack, even your elevation. Then once you’ve completed all the preparatory steps (fill jars, wipe rims, etc.), it moves on to the timed portions of the process. This is an invaluable tool.

HOWEVER. Whenever I switch to another app partway through the process, it jumps back to the very beginning, and I have to go through all the steps again. This wouldn’t be too bad either, but there is no way to skip the parts I’ve already done, like say, the 10 minute timer for venting steam. I simply have to restart the timer and wait for it to run through before I can go on to the next step(s). This seems to happen whether I switch out of the app for 5 minutes or 5 seconds, or even when I get a phone call. Again, this is a great app (which is why I gave it 3 stars despite this issue), but it’s only usable if you can dedicate your phone to the canning process and nothing else for the entire time. I’m going to keep it in the hopes that it can be fixed (in which case it will definitely earn 5 stars), but for now I’ll have to stick with my book and self-timing.

This app may be useful for new canners. I like the step-by-step checklist to help complete the canning process. There are just a couple of reasons why the app doesn’t work for me. 1. I can’t preview the whole process from start to finish. I won’t know how long it takes to can a specific food until I’ve begun the canning process, including waiting through the venting timer. 2. Every time I leave the app (to check a recipe or answer a phone call, for instance) the app resets and I have to repeat all the steps I’ve already done, including waiting through another timer. There is no way to skip past completed parts. These issues make the app more frustrating than useful for me.

I can and I teach canning for Nebraska Extension and I LOVE this app. It is a great way for new canners to walk through each step as they learn about food preservation. It also works for experienced canners as it is easy to quickly get to the times for each produce they are working on.
I appreciate the developers made it applicable for a variety of elevations, since that changes how long you process or the pressure you can at.

For one I will say that this is a very good app because it seems to be the ONLY app. There are a few things that I REALLY think would make it that much better. For one it does not specify how much head space these items needs. Also there is a VERY LIMITED selection and zero availability to add to the selection. There is also no search availability. There could be also be a tutorial on what a weighted gauge looks like when it is at its optimal pressure. This app has SOOOO much potential but there is also so much missing from this app.

I’ve canned for many years, but usually just in the summers. I seldom remember from one summer to the next if it’s 10 or 15 pounds of pressure, etc for which items. This app just walks me right through the process. Possibly one of the best designed apps I’ve ever used!! Thanks.

I love this app! Instead of having to use checklists and iPhone timers, it’s all in one and is such a time saver when you’re busy doing this hectic thing we call canning. Go Beavs!

Got this app last year when I started canning and I use it every time! It was recommended on the Canning for beginners, Safely by the book FB group.

This app is really nice because it has step by step instructions and the timer is straight forward. . I use it every time.

I really like this app for canning however it REALLY needs to be updated. Certain items require 90 min in the pressure canner & the app says 75. Also need to update food choices. I’ll reevaluate my review when the app is updated.
