Em-Aye-Bee,
Neat Idea, Inconsistent Win Criteria
The instructions are either in correct or the developer hasnt vetted the exercises. The game is great concept which increases familiarity with the symmetry of the positions e.g. “I can attack from above *and* below” but the full extent of the attacks are not realized.

Developer restored this game
I wrote a salty review last time because it was not compatible with new devices and the timer was unrealistic. Now this game is one of my favorites to pass the time. Thank you to the Devs! Highly recommend
Terryls106,
Great app!
One complaint, some moves are marked as wrong inconsistently, I.e. Moves that can be blocked by interposition of the opponents piece, but then can be taken on second move...sometimes these are flagged as good and sometimes wrong, be consistent
Dave Markle,
Awesome!
I love this. Finally an app to drill vision. So important and often overlooked.

My eight year old and I are competing for high score! Thank you!!
DeepBlueKiller,
Good for mastering important drills
Nice app version of Maza’s Concentric Square drills with a little added randomness. Perfect for iPad. I like that the opponent’s follow-up moves are taken into account which requires that you look deeper and recognize the “illusion” patterns that don’t win anything.

Scoring can be a bit mysterious sometimes, but it’s not important to me. Would have been nice to know that squares trapping the knight on the edge are counted. The app should be titled “Forks, Skewers, and Traps”, or perhaps simply “Win the Piece”.

Overall very nice for improving chess vision and great as a warm-up before a chess game.
NaptheNap,
Ok but awful styling
The visual style look like something my kid would make. No settings so can’t disable annoying sounds. Pity because otherwise could be good.
Rock5683,
Can’t start the drill
Start button is blocked by a vertical line. Can’t start the drill at any level.
Jerry Hobby,
Unique game, great idea, poorly programmed
This app has a great idea and it was a good start towards what I was looking for. Having a way to practice “board vision” exercises is not found in other apps even though it’s a critical skill for developing your chess game.

This app misses out in several areas. First, there are more types of drills that should be included. Board coordinate drills and other pattern recognition drills. In addition, it has a short timer making it nearly impossible for beginners. It should be adjustable. It also shouldn’t be built with only three strikes. The point is to drill. It would be nicer if it was timed but not as a timeout but like other chess drills, in that you get more points if you do it faster. The whole idea is to not make someone win or lose, but constantly improve.

The app does not rotate to horizontal on the iPad. For those of us that prefer the horizontal orientation (keyboard users), this is a big inconvenience. Further, the app does not let you disable sounds, set timers, or setup anything.

This app works, so I gave it a couple stars. But to PAY for an app that lacks so many features ... well ... it’s just not a good value at any price. I love paying for apps to help developers. But I want to get features for premium apps. This should be an ad supported app since it is such a feature-free program.

One star for being a unique and valuable training idea. One star because it works and doesn’t crash. If this is version 1.0, then perhaps by version 5.0 this app will have the refinements making it a worthy chess training tool.
Arcaterra,
Too Many Errors
I was hoping this app would be great as there are no other chess drills I know of in App Land. But this app misses correct answers and calls them incorrect. It's too bad. The developers should return to the drawing board and refine what would have been a good chess drill. UPDATE. Just figured out that an answer is marked incorrect if the forked,or skewered piece can make a follow-up move to a square that aborts the fork or skewer.
Lou D'Agostino,
Needs Bugs Fixed
I'm only giving it 2 stars because the program misses skewers and forks and incorrectly marks correct forks and skewers as wrong. A major issue in my opinion - otherwise I would have given it 4-5 stars. Pleases fix the bugs. I'd live to up rate the product since its the only App I've found that runs the drills I've been looking for!!
