Description

ChordCalculus is a tool for players of fretted instruments. ChordCalculus will allow the user to choose from a large number of pre-defined fretted instruments in a variety of tunings. Additionally, the user can define new instruments and/or tunings. Single or multiple capos can be added. The user then picks from one of four operating modes using the segmented selectors at the center top of the display:

* (C)hord Calculator:

Show all fingerings for chords for a given instrument/tuning, filters, capos, and fret span.

* Chord (I)dentifer:

For a given instrument/tuning and fingering, display all possible names for a chord

* (S)cale Display:

For an instrument/tuning, key and scale type, display the scale, and play a two-octave scale

* (P)rogression Player:

Derived from chord mode, display fingerings for a chord progression. Also plays chords in sequence.

In all cases, the chords can be played as a chord or arpeggio and the scale played back.

As of version 2.0, an instrument tuner is accessed by long touching the tuning button.

Enhancements:

This is handy for finding other voicings of this identified chord. Going back to Identify Mode will display the notes that where selected. Shifting back to Chord Mode using the main selector clears out the remembered notes.

Partial Capos were allowing some fingerings behind the capo that were not playable.
Chord Identifying was not properly finding some 6th chords.
If the Found Chords list is too long for the screen, an indicator shows more chords below.
Some minor UI tweaks.

Fixes:
Some users on multiple platforms are seeing crashes that are fixed by a reinstall. I have put error reports on all file and iCloud related crashes. Please note the error type and e-mail me via the web site. I will track it down as soon as I have more data. If you want direct feedback, include an email address. I suspect disabling iCloud syncing will also fix it.

Enhancements:
The UI will now more appropriately use the full screen for all iOS platforms (the iPhone 5s is a stretch), thanks to Cartography, a useful framework for constraints. .

Th UI also now includes haptic feedback for various interactions with screen and its elements.

In Chord Mode, long touching the Chord name in the center panel below the play buttons will display all other names for the currently displayed chord (similar to identify mode). Tapping the list (or any other action that changes the fretboard) will remove the list. This was a user request. Other suggestions for enhancements are welcome.

The Instrument quick index is now full names of the sections.

This can be overridden in the filter section (No Auto -35)
- Whenever a chord tone is omitted, either with the chord tone filters or as above, the display of the omitted note is grayed.

dAvetioga,
STILL NO CONTACT!!!
Has been a decent app until latest update - now it fails to launch! There is no contact info in the developers page to report this or find a solution!

*UPDATE* Quick turnaround on bug fix! I enjoy the app and the interface is fairly intuitive. I have multiple chord apps and I find this one to be my go to for chording. Keep up the good work!
Dave, very much, FCD,
Crashing
Upgraded rating. Thanks to the developer for his quick response. The app runs fine now. Three stars because the user interface is a bit opaque.

[Original review: Bought this yesterday (7/3/19) and installed it on my phone (iPhone XS Max, iOS 12.3.1). It ran fine then, but subsequent attempts to run the app on the following day failed, with the app crashing after displaying the splash screen. Hard iPhone reset failed to resolve the issue.]
BrianB09,
Help!
UPDATE: Looks like my issue was user error. Cool app, especially for free!

This is a really useful app, and I use it all the time. However, the latest update appears to be non-functional on my iPhone 8+. Specifically, the “Type” menu on the left-most screen has disappeared. This app really is cool, so I hope a fix will be forthcoming. When it works, it’s five stars!
