Description

CHRESTUS is a revolutionary tool for investigating every argument for and against the historical existence of Jesus. This app contains a reference glossary, a Bayesian calculator, in-depth articles on minimal mythicism, a chronology of early Christianity, and a list of both people on both sides of the discussion.

The Bayesian calculator allows you to estimate the probability that Jesus existed with whatever evidence you chose to include. Bayesian analysis uses a basic model widely employed by scientists, governments, corporations, and even historians. Bayesian analysis is the best way to weigh the evidence for or against any claim you encounter.

The chronology graphic allows you to visually see the references to Jesus and when they happened. This is a very important factor in historical studies. This app addresses all known arguments both for an against the historical Jesus and allows you to determine whether Jesus actually existed.

This app was developed in collaboration with Dr. Richard Carrier (author of On the Historicity of Jesus) so all information in CHRESTUS is based on the most recent scholarship in the field of historical Jesus studies.

Continuous updates to the application makes it the most up to date compendium of information on the historicity of Jesus.

ttweety,
Genius or Fringe?
If Richard Carrier‘s ideas about Bayesian history and about Jesus are right, then he is destined to revolutionize the scholarly work of history, not to mention the history of early Christianity. If his ideas are not right, then he’s someone who doesn’t like Christianity selling fringe history to other people who don’t like Christianity. Which is it? Now you can see for yourself with this app. It’s a lot cheaper than his books. Ask yourself whether this app is the work of a revolutionary genius soon to be recognized as the world’s most consequential historian. Or does it look like the work of someone trying to make money from people who don’t like Christianity? With this app, you can see for yourself.

Richard Carrier’s Pocket Guide to Mythicism
It’s a good start.

I would like to like this app more than I do. Hopefully, future updates will add some of the features that I think are missing. Firstly, the app is designed with only mobile phones in mind. On an iPad, it only appears in portrait orientation as if the tablet were big iPhone. Although its layout and workflow are logical and efficient, most of the entries only scratch the surface of the topics they are related to. The app would benefit greatly from hypertext links to Dr. Carrier’s blog, Wikipedia, and/or other Internet sources. It is also sorely in need of a search function.
Zenspeedstr,
The end of Faith is the beginning of Wisdom
If you are a student of Mythicism and you know Dr. Carrier’s arguments, the current state of this app may seem pretty basic. But if you’ve never been exposed to the Mythicist hypothesis, this is mind-blowing stuff. And it’s only going to get better. Dr. Carrier has promised that this is only the beginning. The app will be continuously updated and improved. If you have questions about Christianity, or are looking for better tools for Rational argument, this is a really good place to start. Spread the Apostasy.
Jnow00,
Good information hard to read
This seems to pretty much be a mouthpiece for Richard Carrier’s views. That’s not bad since he is a wealth of knowledge and it’s contained here. The problem I have is that the grammar that is used is not very good and it’s sometimes confusing to follow. Almost like someone trying to cram a bunch of thoughts into an abbreviated text message. I know my grammar is not perfect, but I am not a Doctor.
SirGlum,

evidence from epistles rebutted philippians and 2 timothy scroll functions not working

Useless
Ironically the only sources cited in this app are Bible passages. Contains what seems like baseless conjecture and I expected much more from something attempting to go against millennia of academia.

Interesting discussion points but not what is advertised.
j diver,
Not well designed
Doesn’t display well at all on iPhone X. Been broken for months. No fixes.
Cmealyaz,
Needs work
The formatting it too large for the phone and it cuts off on the sides so you have to guess what the words might be. Really frustrating! I do not recommend this app until this gets fixed.

Also, every bit of this app is in his YouTube videos. EVERY SINGLE THING!! Disappointing and a waste of money.
