Magicmom22,
Really Nice!
This app makes learning coding fun! There are questions that take you step by step through the actual routine of coding, examples, and video tutorials throughout the whole thing. It isn't made super easy and you are encouraged to think through the problems rather than just giving you the answers. This helps you to remember the old stuff before moving on to new steps. This is a well made app and the developer obviously put a lot of thought into this.

Update 2/4/17: Been through several more lessons now. Still a great app! Just one small issue makes me almost take down a star. This is the second time I've been forced into reviewing the app to keep going. I think one review should be enough. I'm going to leave it at 5 but if I have to review again to keep going it's probably going down a star.

Update 2/4/17: only a few lessons later and being forced to review again. Review loses one star due to the repeated loop of forced reviews. Have to entirely close down the app and go back in even seconds after leaving a review. This is ridiculous!
Demadrachm,
Decent
The app is pretty decent and breaks down the fundamentals fairly well. One annoying thing is the sensitivity when it comes to how exact your answers are. You don’t need a period in a string or need to capitalize anything. The app makes you type exactly what they tell you, which can be frustrating considering all the points I got stuck weren’t because of a coding structure mistake or anything of the sort it was because of a missing space or something minor like a period. The real kicker is when you complete the very first basic lesson and they start charging you for every other lesson. Honestly I thought I found a free nifty tool to get a grasp on Swift coding but the prices are a bit hefty for my liking. Why would anyone buy an individual lesson? If you’re serious about learning you’re obviously going to want to know it all, not just a specific piece which is essentially useless without the rest. You can buy all lessons for $10 USD, or buying each individual lesson will rack up to around $47 - $48 USD. I’m sure this app is fine if you have the money to put into it, but I’d rather just look online for free and figure it out myself. At least the app doesn’t have any ads which is a plus but I’m just gonna uninstall and figure it out a different way. If you have the money, go for the $10 pack and if not, this isn’t the app for you.
Unhappy DB Traveler,
So far so good
I decided to use this app because of the incredible amount of reviews that the app had, 4K at the time of this review, and it’s high rating. Thinking this must be a good indication of its quality. Interestingly this number is most likely attributed to the app requiring you to rate it after completing the first lesson in the course, otherwise you must pay for the app. It’s a very clever way of getting reviews for your product and I commend the marketing teams use of strategy. So it seems that the 4K in reviews is mostly to do with the people like me who just want free stuff! 😊 Never the less the app is straightforward and intuitive and I like the user friendly environment that is used to help teach you swift. Maybe I’ll come back and write an update to this once I’ve completed all the lessons to make sure all these reviews don’t just consist of people who have completed just the first lesson.
Dubs11711,
Early to tell but good so far
App is informative and easy to follow, yet requires a review of the product before finishing the second chapter. Hard to tell if it will be worth $4.99 this early, but seems like it is a good base point to get into coding. Also, a GREAT marketing ploy for the developers to require a review and attract more customers. I Will revise review once I have completed the 20 chapters and have a grasp of the apps true worth. So far so good..... until the app lets me proceed from writing this review. Only notch on the 5 stars....

Note: The app will not let me move forward even after making this review. It really is a well done app/learning tool, yet this is ridiculous. Soon will be a 1 star app if I can not proceed, especially after just paying the $4.99 for full access.

1 Major Flaw
I’m using this on an iPad Pro and on the very first exercise hit a wall. When typing a double-quote it is entered as “curly” quotes rather than the straight “inch mark” quotes, and the app doesn’t recognize them as correct. I could not find a way to enter straight quotes, so had to copy one from a website, then paste it *every time* quotes are needed (frequently). This is frustrating and *very* unnecessary. The app should automatically convert them.

If not for that bug this would be a 5 star app. The content starts at a very basic level, but it’s a good way to review after having not used Swift for quite some time. I plan to purchase the remaining chapters. $5 is on the high end for the amount of content, but seems fair enough.

One other annoyance is that the “Run” and “Next” buttons appear underneath the type-ahead bar that displays automatically when a Bluetooth keyboard is used, which requires an extra tap after every text entry.
Tainted07,
This app is AWESOME!
I told the developer I’d rate this app with a glowing 5 stars after iOS 12 released, so now here I am!

A lot of the complaints I have seen from other reviews is that you have to spend $10 to unlock the rest of the lessons, but this is 100% worth it in my opinion.

I’ve made it to chapter 8, and so far everything has been clear and concise. I’ve struggled with trying to learn other languages in the past, but the way this app is set up there’s usually a very clear reason as to why things are the way they are. Each lesson even has hints and a video included that can help A LOT if you don’t understand something. Most of the time it isn’t necessary to use these, but they help a lot when you do need to use them!

When I finally encountered a problem I couldn’t solve, I emailed the developer asking for help and they got back to me quite quickly, responding fast until my problem was solved. They were completely understanding, patient, and polite.

This app is awesome at teaching Swift and the developer genuinely seems to want to teach people Swift.

This app has inspired me to continue my journey learning Swift, and I thank the developer for creating an awesome app! This is one of the best $10 I have spent.
WonderTouch,
Hands-on exercises, unlike Mimo
Great app! The in-app purchase is absolutely worth it. The lessons are hands on. You actually get to type in your answers character by character, which greatly improves retention of information, unlike Mimo where you forget everything.

Two suggestions for the developer. 1) The “Stuck? Press here to get help” shows up waaay too fast. I don’t even have time to finish reading the prompt most of the time. 2) every now and then add a much more open-ended exercise for us to synthesize what we’ve learned. You don’t have to figure out a fancy checking mechanism to check our work. Maybe just have it check the final output. But please add this, as it will dramatically improve our retention of the material.
KSBrown,
A Great Introduction To Swift Coding Abilities
So I'm fairly new to the coding world (utilizing the self-teach method) & this teaching app greatly aids you in this process. You end up with immersion process (where as you go through each module, you are given exercise information along with an attempt at a live exercise. If you begin to get the hang of it, it will continue to the next exercise and if you don't, it will provide you hints based on previous teachings). Enjoy this method as it works best for those of us who prefer visual, hands-on teaching methods versus straight textbook methods. Highly recommend for novice user looking to comfortable advance their knowledge-base in this process.
sloseaba88,
Helpful & Well Paced
Thank you, but the "rate the app" box at the out of module 1 and then the in of module 2 is kinda grating.
I'm working 3 other variants of this "Swift coding tutorial"-type app, and I enjoy this as well as 2 of the other 3, but this "quirk" compels me to rank this 3rd of the 4.

A month later & I sprung for the pay-to-play for ch 3, onward. The first session back had me running through front 6 of 11 topics in chapter 3.
It's nice to be working with CodeSwift again. I'm still working with the other 2 similar apps mentioned above, and CS surely has its place as and equal to the others. The concept explanation, here, is thinner than with the other 2, but I like the lean way CS is set up.

...and here I am again -- even after purchasing the "unlock all chapters" ($4.99) option -- at the end of another chapter (3):
...had rated 4 stars, just took one of those away
...info's still GOOD: was thinking of taking 4 up to 5 (was going to give it another chapter or two before doing so), but this is SILLY, now: cannot get from chapter 3 to 4 by clicking "later" on the "rate this app" pop-up [forgetting that I've already done this twice before]

...let's see if we go down to 2 stars after chapter 4
tklafleur,
Decent
This app is okay. Some of the solutions have things that weren't taught in previous lessons, so I struggled. I even went back and reviewed previous lessons to try to figure out the answer to a bigger solution to no avail.
I don't like that if I go back to a previously passed lesson, my solution is gone and I have to re-work that lesson.
Not much depth to what I am doing and why I am doing it. This is truly a "this is what syntax looks like" type of app. While I enjoy learning syntax and I do want to know the "why's" of things so I can use them on a much bigger scale correctly and be able to apply it all over. I have been using other tools (specifically playgrounds) to learn, but this app and playgrounds are teaching 2 very different concepts; so it's good there isn't much overlap.
