Farriesgamma,
Not exactly what is shown in preview.
I’d give this app a D-. It is a little less than fair for general background or simple scenery. However, if you are looking to colorize a portrait, I think you will be very disappointed. It doesn’t really seem to have the capabilities to color hair, skin, eyes, etc.
Sar_mast,
What I was looking for!
I have a load of old pictures. I managed to use this app to automatically colorize a bunch of them. Didn’t work for all pictures, but made a big difference in some. Glad I got it.
Panheadfan,
Dang it- not for free :(
Only when you do the camera roll it says you don’t have credits- what does that even mean? It doesn’t tell you how much it is.
Benn Powie,
Awesome app, wish you didn’t pay per picture
Neural networks are something people should have the freedom to explore in their early stages. I was very excited to try this one out only I can’t afford to pay per picture. Anyone saying the colorization effect isn’t what you’d expect is unaware that the networks take time to improve and eventually this app will work like a charm!
Amycs87,
Scam! Do not pay!
Paid for 10 photos and only could colorize one before I was “out of credits.” Also colorization was crap.
LoLoMac,
Tintype photos
The app has appropriate colorization for Ferrotype (aka tintype) photos from the 1850’s.
Dwinterone,
I'm impressed!
I had no idea that color could be added to a B&W so easily and actually look like a color print. I used an old photo from 1898 of a lumber mill camp with cabins, a forest in the background and a dirt road. It came out beautiful. I'm going to frame the B&W and color side by side. I wish I could upload the two and show everyone how detailed it is. Every building has the perfect brown color with a slightly lighter roof. Trees are all a nice forest green color. I am truly satisfied. It would be a 5 star if I didn't have to keep buying credits to use it. One flat fee up front would make it perfect.
Iczer1,
Colorize should be called Swindlized...
I thought the description made this app sound great so I D/L'd so I could see how I liked it. No instructions but an easy enough interface so I figure let's see how it does on one of my b/w pictures in my camera roll. Once I selected my picture a pop up came on that said something like Oops, you have no credits. Buy some now? And had me on my buy screen. Doesn't even tell me how much it costs. I figure it should give you at least a few free credits to test the app to see if it is worth buying. Also, it should tell you that you need to buy credits to even use it. This is deceptive. Sure it says in app purchases but that doesn't mean it's useless without making one right from the start.
AthensDawg,
Have to buy credits to use the app?
You have to buy credits to do anything in the app. The developers do not disclose this anywhere in the app description. Nor does the app (or App Store listing) disclose how much the credits cost, how many you have to buy, and how many are needed to do whatever this app does. I downloaded it on a special "free" day, so I'm stunned that the developers would normally ask even $0.99 for an app that doesn't even let you *try a couple pics out* before demanding that you "buy credits".
Drakemeetslara,
Good enough
I think this app is one of its kind. I haven't really had a chance to look for similar apps but now I really won't. This app helped me transform some of my old black and white pics to colored ones and it has done a decent job of transforming it.
