ConversationBuilderTeen is a teen version of the popular and award winning ConversationBuilder virtual conversation simulator. It is designed to help teenaged children learn how to have multi-exchange conversations with their peers in a variety of social settings. The auditory pattern of conversation is presented in a visual format to help students recognize and master the flow of conversation.

Students learn when it is appropriate to introduce themselves, ask questions, make observations and change the subject of the conversation. They will also learn how to recognize sarcasm and how to respond when someone is bullying them or someone around them.

The student will be asked to initiate conversation, respond to conversations initiated by others or participate in group conversations. Students will be guided through conversations and allowed to record and save their conversations for later playback and study. Conversations are grouped into eight themes. The themes are school, relationship, sports, entertainment, bullying, sarcasm, clothes, and summer.

Being able to converse with peers is the cornerstone of developing relationships, and ConversationBuilderTeen™ promotes development of this skill in a fun and engaging way.

Chiquita2271,
Great app
This is a great app to help with conversation building. I really like how you can have more than one user. That is a plus for those with multiple children. It is very helpful how if you get it wrong, it tells you why (like...it's not time for a statement about yourself at this time). This really helps teach the order of a conversation. It's also great that you record yourself saying your answer so you can hear yourself having the conversation. One thing I didn't like is that some of the wrong answers are inappropriate sentences. I realize they aren't the correct answers so you aren't trying to say the kids should say these things but, they also shouldn't be reading them and having to decide not to use them. All in all good app.
Krisdr,
For older and mature teens
I want to start by saying this is a wonderful app for helping a teen with social situations and proper conversations. Throw in some moral lessons as well. A+. I originally got this to use with my 13 yo but she is not quite mature enough for many of the conversations, even with the parental controls. This will be an app for in a couple of years for sure. The parental controls are great and a big plus for me. One of the things that I thought was a nice touch was that you or your teen could record their own responses in the conversation and then play back the whole conversation at the end, so you can hear the whole flow. You can set it up for more than 1 person to track and you can track progress as well. As an adult I even got something out of the app in helping me to be more aware of conversations that I have with others. Nice! Highly recommended! But I do recommend you got through some of the conversations before a young teen does.
SLPMCA,
Love it
I think this one is better than the original in the overall setup. Some of the features of this app that are really neat are the history button which displays the conversation like you see on the iPhone messages, the info button which tells you what each conv. is about, explanations as to why certain responses don't work and the ability to have each choice read to you by an appropriate voice. Some topics should be viewed with caution as they may be inappropriate for some kids. I skipped the conversations about drugs, but I think they are still important topics that can be addressed with the consent of a parent or by a parent. If you have concerns with particular conversation topics then I suggest emailing the developer. He works really hard on these apps and he would probably appreciate appropriate critical feedback. Overall, I really enjoyed using this app as well as the original.
Alutes,
Promising App
This app has some promising characteristics, but I was a bit disappointed with some of the favorable responses. I reviewed it with some of my students, paras and our OT. It was suprising to hear that they felt that certian responses were deemed appropriate. My students responses to many of the "appropiate" responses were; 'If I said that I might get punched out.", "Someone might kick me if I said that to them". Some of the response might lead to our students being set up to get bullied or be deemed inappropriate and cause them to get in trouble in a school setting. I really like the format. I like the ability to have them practice it and have them hear what their own responses sound like. I would hope that the developers consider cleaning up the conversations so that they are socially acceptable and won't lead our students into situations that would be problematic. I receive this copy for review purposed, but if I had paid the full price and then found out that it was not acceptable I would not be a favorable customer.
Mary Lu hu,
better than child version, love it
if you've purchased the version for younger kids you should know that this version provides more specific explanations for "incorrect" answers", a big improvement in my book.

I noticed one reviewer complained about explicit content, but perhaps was not aware that adult controls are available to lock the teen out of explicit content. I like the option to use the drug/alcohol/sex related conversations. Teens are exposed to conversations like "i cant believe I cant believe i slept with him" on tv or movies if not in real life. By having this material available it opens the door to discussion about those topics, even if the teen is not exposed to those types of conversations personally. Obviously professionals would seek parent agreement before on explicit content.

Superb
This is a superb app in all aspects. It is very user friendly and allows for multiple users. I really like the feature on which you can disable subject matter you may not feel comfortable with your teen knowing I.e. pregnancy, drugs, etc. After using it, I can tell right away that it is perfect for teens to learn how to hold a conversation with others. The app definitely has a plus when choosing wrong answers and you are told what would be best, and why. My favorite thing about the app is that it allows you to record your conversation and play it back. This feature allows teens to look at where they may need improvement and how the conversation sounds in that particular way. The design and layout is excellent as well.

Great for Teens
This is an excellent app for working on conversation building and social skills with teenagers. There are a wide range of age appropriate topics to choose from, with parental controls to block more sensitive topics if desired. I love that the app gives feedback when an inappropriate choice is made, and that it can be used to practice conversations with one person or a group. It would be nice if there would be an option for the choices to be automatically saved into a conversation, rather than having the student record it in his/ her own voice. This would allow the app to be used with nonverbal students as well.
Katie Zink,
Great and age appropriate!
Once again, Conversation Builder has created a wonderful app. The topics used in this app are specific to teenagers, such as bullying, sex, and other high school issues. There is an option to turn off topics such as sex and drugs. The app offers the user an opportunity to start conversations with a "friend" based on a picture and what appears to be going on in the picture. After each statement made by your "friend", four options appear in which only one is the most appropriate to respond with in the specific situation. A recording option is available to make it seem even more real-life. Overall, great app!
Occupational Therapist,
Great conversation app for Teenagers
I have gotten to try this app with pre-teens and teens in a life skills class and they really enjoyed it. They struggle to have appropriate conversations with their typical peers at times and I think this app will facilitate good practice for different situations.
I particularly liked that it will track users, responses, record response, be used individually and with groups, and allow for a variety of conversation topics. I would like to see a way to create additional conversation topics, but that is something that would be great in a future version. Highly recommend this app! It does exactly what the iTunes description says!
tracyfernandez,
A great app!
This app is really great for children who struggle with starting and responding in a conversation. It gives a wide variety of situations, the ability to practice and hear your response and conversation played back and can be saved. It also has parental control options. I like that the situations can be one-on-one or a group. There were a few responses that required sarcasm that I'm not sure I would have chosen but I think that goes to developing a wide range of situations as well as the age group. Worked flawlessly. I know we will be revisiting many of the conversations to see if their responses have changed/improved. Very exciting!
