Used by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci, the grid drawing method has been brought to digital life with CopyIt. CopyIt assists you in copying, enlarging or reducing your chosen reference image using the grid drawing method. You do not even need to be artistic.
The grid drawing method has been used for centuries. It breaks images down into smaller work areas allowing you to focus on the actual lines and shapes within each square, rather than trying to draw the whole picture at once. You can't help but achieve with this method.
Using CopyIt as your reference object, it saves you from having to print your photos and ruin them by drawing grids over them, but unlike a real photo, it gives you the ability to zoom into the fine details. With a pencil, you then draw up a grid with the same number of squares using a separate medium, such as paper or canvas. Working square by square, you CopyIt!
If you want to draw an image larger or smaller than the original, the pencil-drawn grid should be drawn larger or smaller than the original grid on the device with the same amount of squares. All that matters is that the contents of each square are drawn to scale.

When using the Export Photo button, reference images with transparency will now be exported with transparency intact. This now also includes email, AirDrop, iMessage, iCloud etc.

(NEW) TubeMatch
TubeMatch is an approximation for the digital equivalent of paint tube colours. Choose from a selection of paint manufacturers and ranges and touch a section of your reference image to obtain the closest tube match. TubeMatch works best when used in conjunction with the Mosaic feature, as it provides you with an average colour over a larger area rather than sampling a single point of colour. When providing a tube match, a rating system is used. Five stars is almost a perfect match with no mixing required whereas one star is close, but may be a few shades lighter or darker. If no suitable match is found, the closest possible suggestion is still shown for your reference. When sampling, the colour on the left is the colour being sampled and the colour on the right is the tube colour.
(NEW) Media Sizes
You can now choose from a selection of Media Sizes. The default is set to the Device Screen but you can now choose media like 'A4' or standard canvas sizes. This will change your grid and image ratio to suit your chosen media size. Remember to also set your desired Image Aspect if your image looks stretched or squashed. 'Aspect Fit' is a popular choice.
Choosing a Media Size (other than Device Screen or Custom) also displays the real-world measurement for a single grid in inches or millimetres depending on the media, when using SmartMove.
Use the Email Support button within CopyIt to let me know if your favourite size is missing, as the most requested Media Sizes will be added.

When turned on, you can resize the grid by dragging from any corner of the grid. For your convenience you can also reposition the grid by dragging from inside it. Using this feature changes your Media Size to Custom.

This guy knows what he’s doing
The developer has to be an artist, or else he has consulted extensively with a few. This app combines several tools any artist would find useful, with all the features one could ask. And for less than the cost of a single tube of paint, in many cases. Besides being a wonderful drawing aid, this app has some fantastic tools for analyzing a potential photo reference, such as examining a subject’s value range via a black and white posterization filter and a handy gray scale strip chart you can use to overlay your photo. This is incredibly useful. The features are too many to list, and I continue to find nice little touches that just show off the thought that has gone into this. Well done!

Broken app is a project wrecking waste of time and money
Everything works great at first when you load it and start working, but once you take a break after several hours of meticulous, careful work and close the app, you’re doomed. When you reopen the app, the view either sticks in vertical and refuses to flip to horizontal, or if it does flip to vertical, it completely resizes the grid and shifts the alignment, and nothing you can do can get it to go back like it was. It’s a scrambled, glitchy mess. That means that your work is ruined, because you can’t reestablish your reference points, and you have to throw out your freaking canvas and start the ^>¥{¥,!~*] over. I feel like I’m going to vomit. This company has wasted my time, materials and money, and if they know that their junk app is broken and they continue to charge $10, then they’re running a scam, plain and simple. Do not buy this app until the people behind it acknowledge and fix their seriously flawed (read: utterly defective) product.

The only art grid app to use.
This is the only art grid app available that actually does what it’s supposed to do! It does it really well too. It has too many features to name here, and you do need to take a few minutes to find your way around the interface. The developer, Nigel, keeps the app up to date thank goodness, because I would be lost without it. I’ve been using it for years to help create my art and decided it was high time I left a review.

It works, but is difficult for iPhone use
I purchased this app last night and was eventually able to get it to do what I needed, but there are some issues with using it on an iPhone. My main problem is that once I have my grid and image in place, it would be nice to be able to pinch and zoom all the way in an out just to get an overall view of the image placement within the grid, but it gets stuck on the zoom out and usually won’t let me see the very edges of my grid unless I do the target zoom. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying. It would also be nice if the saved projects showed the date/time saved.

This is the best for learning proportions for me. Also being able to zoom in on target areas is tremendous help because my vision is bad. I love it so far. All seems great. Thanks. Almost
Didn't buy it because of the price but took a chance and it was a winner. I've tried so many apps but nothing compares to this that I've tried. Buy it and you won't be sorry. No.. I wasn't told to say all this 🤗🤗 I never used grid method and succeeded. I hate the erasing but worth the trouble.

Fantastic product for oil painting
There’s a learning period when you start using this app. I still don’t understand everything this can do. I use it with most of my oil paintings that are done inside my studio. I use this app with a smaller iPad, when traveling. I can move to different sections of the photo to see details. I think it’s one of the best apps for artists.

Absolutely the best
Very well thought out app for artists. Can’t think of a more useful tool for assisting in the transfer of an image to canvas or paper. Works without glitches or bugs on my iPad Pro. Even includes music access for tunes while you paint. Now if only apple could invent a screen that doesn’t suffer when outdoors, the iPad would be the perfect tool for plein air painters.

Best app I have found for applying a grid over a photo. photoshop does not even do this. I often paint with accuracy in mind an a grid is imperative. Sometimes Expressionism is fine, but when I need to grid something this app has made my life a lot easier. Just set my iPad up next to painting and go. I admit I am fairly neat when I paint - no messy brushes,spills, or paint any place but the canvas. GREAT APP.

I cannot draw free hand and for years I thought I was not good at drawing because of this. Until I discovered this method. This app helps me so much and I cannot imagine life without it. It’s just makes everything much easier. Thank you for developing it 🤩🥳

Really helpful drawing app that works
I have used this frequently. It is pretty easy to understand the options and figure out how to get what you want. All the options execute well. I enjoy using this app and find it really helps with drawing.
