A Good Game but.....
I had so much trouble with the HOPS! When you had to place something in the scene, it wouldn't take it! I had to try and try and try before I got it! It was the same when I had to pick something up out of a HOP. I really liked the storyline, as I always do with this series. Some of the puzzles were lacking in instructions also. If you could straighten these problems out, it would be a 5 star game.

Let's talk about the positive before I mention what I think is wrong with this game. Game itself is cool, right up there with Edgar Allen Poe writings. Kudos for graphics, spookiness, storyline was good too but ..
Talk about difficult, sheesh this game takes the cake and then some!
.. maybe I'm wrong about this but the camera is new to me. It took a lot of tries to figure out to wait for a "green frame" to show up just to take a darn picture! A hint would have been nice. Further into the game, just to do the easiest tasks became the most frustrating. What I mean is the story telling of where you find items that go along with the story, then maybe get an item or a clue at the end to help with the dialogue. It's not like you were putting the rods on the bird cage one at a time, it shouldn't matter where the dang rods need to be placed.
Normally I love these games but this one was either a rushed job, the makers just wanted to get it out or they didn't care. Thank god I read the reviews before buying. Poorly done. If this is the kind of games that Big fish wants to be associated or carry it's name then you're going to lose your customers.

Got through it!
First the negative: Very poor instructions, Very unresponsive - multiple tapping needed with Very sensitive placement of items. This was more than frustrating! However, due to no crashes during the trial, I had purchased it. This has taken a lot of patience & persistence.
On the positive side, the graphics were crisp & clear, character voice overs were good, actually there were a lot of unique aspects and tasks to perform ( just a shame that the developers did not lay out the aspect of the game & instructions.) Lots of running around, however teleporting map was provided -Thank Goodness! Storyline I felt was interesting enough to try and get through it. Longer than expected, due to all of the bugs and unresponsiveness. As a result I can only give this a 2 star rating - as it has been a real pain to get through.

Crash and burn

The crashes dropped off further into the game however that didn't improve the story. Inventory is tiny and difficult to place. Whole game looks dated - previously released Poe games were better than this one. Two stars is generous- a rare low rating for me.
I've played less than 5 minutes and it crashed and kicked me out and closed 3 times. Rarely do I have this issue with games. My iPad is up to date, fairly new with lots of available memory and no open apps in the background. I have filed a report with the developer by clicking on the tools cog in the main menu of the game (where you usually go to rate the game) and chose NO, give feedback. I encourage anyone else having these issues to do the same. In the meantime- play the free trial (wish I had) and if you find it tolerable great! If not wait for an update (version history main page of this description right by in app purchases bottom of pop up.
Should they fix this issue I will update my review but to give an honest review I would need to be able to play the game which frankly I don't have the patience for what with the constant crashes and reopening.

Good game w/reservations
I like the games fashioned after classic novels. This had an interesting story line with clever HOPs and somewhat challenging mini games, but as others have said, there is much to improve. This game had the feel of one made in 2011 or 12. The HOPs were either too sensitive or the target spot was way off. That right there was a sore spot for me--trying to get an item to attach to its programmed spot. I don't mi d an older style game, as long as the movement is smooth. Sparkles were set too fast, too. (I'm a huge fan of sparkles... they add a lot to the whole aura of the game. If you slow them down a bit, they can be enjoyed more, which enhances the game. I do hope an effort will be made to correct the substandard features. Nice game otherwise.

Can't they get it right?
These developers, I think they're making these games with their eyes closed. The accuracy of the touch component of the game is a joke, and I'm stuck because I'm in the bonus game and the pearl won't sit in the shell. I've accidentally clicked out of things a hundred times because the lower third of the screen is active for backing out of the scene (too much). Some actions make no sense and the map is abysmal. I love E.A.P. games but this one seems rushed out. I'm disappointed but at least I got through the main game. The graphics ARE good and the storyline is nice. But this is not a "knock it out of the park" game. Best to procure during a $3.99 sale.

Pretty good, except ...
I've noticed in the recent games that the touch areas are too small, or off target. And sometimes they don't register all the time. Very frustrating. In this game the bottom quarter of the screen is the "return" area ... much too large. I kept getting sent back when I was just clicking on an object. I love the map feature. It's a great way to get help without a real hint. The story was okay, I guess. I'd rather see a good haunted house story where you're just trying to save the soul and escape the house. More scares, less convoluted plot.

Good game but
Hate the inventory/tools banner across bottom. Takes 1/4 of screen & with the additional touch area for backing out of screen, only using half of the screen for actual game. Seen in other Big Fish Games, so hope this is not the norm now. Very small touch area for items as well. Takes several tries to place anything. And constantly backing out of screen. Very frustrating.

Great game
A game where you actually have to do things in order to move ahead, thought out tasks, not just the easy grab this item use right there. Its funny that people complain it's hard, but that's ok I don't like the games that are so easy and obvious. There were glitches in the hidden object scenes where it throws u out of the game but other than that it's a great game.

I loved this game! Custom mode made all the difference. The graphics are the best. It was a little glitchy in hidden object and if you touch the wrong spot, you are kicked out of the scene. I didn't mind that too much. Still worth the money. I love the audio sounds.. No annoying long story scenes that take forever to move on. Loved that. No teleporting map, but it was not needed.
