FotoJoe,
Terrible app... Needs a lot of work
It is strange that the app is so terrible because the physical product that I purchased in the store is actually very well-made and well thought out. I totally agree with the other reviewer with the screen name “KLD505” that the app needs a lot of work to make it a quality app. I could get the app to put the red square is in the four corners of the boogie board, which made me think that it was going to capture what I had written quite well, but the software crops all four sides: top, bottom, left, and the right side. All four sides get cropped significantly. The left and right sides get chopped off about 3/4 of an inch on each side, And the top and bottom both get chopped off about 1/4 inch each. Another strange software glitch is that when you rotate the phone to capture the image in a horizontal view or landscape view, the resulting scan is projected on the phone in a vertical orientation which is such an easy thing to prevent in my opinion. You would be better served by capturing a photo with the camera and organizing it in that camera app or another app. — January 2019
KLD505,
Worst App EVER!!
Completely worthless & pointless! First off, this whole set up is deceiving... I expected my writing/drawings to be downloaded into the boogie board & transferred to my phone via the Dashboard app—not the case! Instead, you essentially take a picture of the boogie board screen & the app “scans” the image/etc. into the phone. As far as “scanning” the screen it’s almost impossible to get the boogie board in good lighting where it doesn’t get a bad glare & where the writing is visible. Then once I get the red dots lined up perfectly at each corner to scan, the scanned image is chopped short on one side. If this is how rudimentary this app operates you are WAY better off using Evernote, HP scanner, or any other app out there with “scanning” capabilities using the phones camera. This app has a long way to go before it’s even worthy of one whole star. Don’t waste your time.

Great Concept Terrible Execution
This has such awesome potential. I do not know if they gave up during development or on determining the updates to make the app sustainable. The required four dots are simply next to impossible make appear. Without simplifying image capture other features are worthless. I would rather take a normal picture of the board then spend literally 15 minutes contorting myself and trying to stay still enough to get the required four dots to appear. The how-to and customer support are also hard to find and do not help identify or address the right issues. I had to spend hours figuring it out on my own. Once I did I do not think I will ever waste the time again unless they do significant updates and fixes. I hope they do. It would bring more value to buying their physical product.

Completely Non-functioning
The red dots for the corners that are required to do the screen capture to use the app do not happen 99.9% of the time. The 0.1% it cuts off an inch or so on each end. Just take a picture with your phone and save yourself the aggravation.

I also took their advertising "APP SCANNING FEATURE ALLOWS YOU TO SAVE, EDIT & SHARE." to be a direct connection. You cannot save anything. You can take a photo and save the photo, but you cannot actually save the drawing.

Really disappointing as I love the product so much I purchased this even though I already own another board specifically for this feature. I would have paid double to actually have one that does what this claims it will do. Wish I would have read the app reviews first.
KJYD,
Works for me. The trick is to back away
I'm not sure why everyone is having such trouble I held the board vertically, got the dots to line up within 15 seconds of my first try, and captured the full image of the first picture I attempted. I was able to write in other colors on it. This is going to useful for saving notes. Don't try to make the image fill the phone screen. Back away so it is 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the phone screen. Easy peasy.

HOWEVER: with the newest OS, I get an error message to allow access to photos, but the link provided does not work. Any suggestions?
Editor111111,
Awesome Concept But Needs Work
I read the other review from 2019 and was hoping this app had improved. Sadly, it has not. The app takes a picture of the entire screen of the unit but only renders an inner rectangle area within the outer frame. As a result, some of the writing along the edge is cut off. The other problem is that the text written on the unit’s screen is hard to see; it’s a dull green on a black background. So, even if the app worked, the physical unit will not do me much good on my refrigerator because I can’t read my notes. To improve this product, please work in the app and make the writing on the physical screen brighter.
Sing songy,
Low tech etch-a-sketch
Bought this at Costco and it seemed like a cool, innovative tool, but only after playing around with it for a bit did I realize how ineffective it really is for the average adult consumer. You have to take pictures of the tablet to download the images or notes to your phone and when combined with glare and the strange cutoff from the download frame, this really isn’t a good product. I could see it being useful in a classroom instead of individual white boards or chalkboards, but beyond that, the boogie board isn’t useful at all. If you have the means, go buy a better product.
NerdyChefNV,
Works "as advertised"...mostly.
LOVE the Boogie Board (picked up three so far)...don't really care for this companion app though. It mostly works "as advertised" but I could just as easily snap a quick photo of the board and achieve basically the same thing, with likely better results. As someone else mentioned, lining things up can be a bit of a challenge. However, when you hit the button to scan, it ends up cropping part if not most of the edges. SO NOTE: do not write within about an inch of the bezel! Not even really worth the FREE download IMO.
Maigozao,
Not that bad, but not so good either
Well, to start off, the app wasn’t really bad, but it wasn’t that good either. Whenever you’re trying to take a picture, the sides are chopped off, and there’s always some glare. Also, the quality’s not all good too. But on the bright side, I was still able to scan the picture and satisfy myself.
Truth1212,
Potential
This app has potential and think it’s kinda cool how it snaps a pic in a unique way. Unfortunately I can’t give it anymore than 1 star because, like others have said, the snapshot cuts off entire parts of what’s actually drawn in the board. This makes the app almost useless. Fix this problem and I’d give it 5.
