Deduce 3.5—Now with iPadPro support!
Caution: Deduce 3.5 requires iOS 9 or later! It features the following improvements:
•Native layout support for iPadPro
•Streamlined startup sequence
•Fixes a scrolling bug
•Fixes an occasional crash on some iPhone models
3.4
2015-09-16
Caution: Deduce 3.4 requires iOS 8 or later! It features the following improvements:
• Full iOS 8 support, and tested with iOS 9 betas.
• Native support for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and future models, using autolayout techniques.
• Greatly improved performance.
• Fixes for many small, but annoying bugs.
• A new reset button offers a convenient way to clear the input staging area when using the letter dials or the software keyboard.
• For iPhone and iPod users, a small button near the upper left of the list of guesses makes it simple to enlarge (or shrink) the list for easier tapping on individual letters.
• If you were using the Autosave feature to automatically save each of your completed games, go to the Apple Settings app, scroll down the list of apps on the left until you find Deduce, then switch the Autosave button off and back on again. This will re-activate the Autosave feature. Note that autosaved games show up in the Deduce Game Manager section, and do not include games that you resign (unless you choose to save them manually yourself).
• You may notice that we removed the “floating words” option. That feature is now redundant. Use the Suggest button to find words matching specific patterns, or tap on Sherlock in the Menu dialog to see a random list of words in the backdrop.
• And finally, some news: we expect to be able to restore Deduce’s multiplayer capability with the future release of Deduce 4.

3.01
2013-09-24
Note to users running prior versions of Deduce with iOS 7: due to an unfixed Apple defect in iOS 7, arbitrary sequences of letters may be accepted as guesses. A work-around in the iOS 7 version of Deduce fixes this; please upgrade to the latest version of Deduce (3.01).
Ignoring Game Center login also fixed with this release (3.01).
Deduce 3.0 & 3.01—Now completely re-imagined for iOS 7!
Starting with our new icon featuring the master of deduction, Deduce 3.0 sports a lighter, more intuitive look and feel, and many new features including:
• A new puzzle form of Deduce. Since the words you need to discover the Mystery Word have been preselected, it's a great way to visualize the logical implications of a choice while learning the mechanics of proposing or eliminating letters.
• Easier game play. A greatly enhanced Suggest button is available whenever you have trouble thinking of a possible word, but it comes with a price! Each suggestion you request lowers your potential score. Also, you may now manually reorder your guesses to keep related words or hit counts together as the game progresses.
• Better layout and arrangement of game controls, particularly when played on an iPhone or iPod Touch.
• More ways to save, manage, and share your game experience.
• Tap Sherlock whenever you need advice or encouragement.
• Optionally use one of your own images as the backdrop for your game play, with included iOS 7 motion effects.
A temporary restriction in this new version: multi-player mode has been disabled. Not many of you have been using it, and we think we know why! Look for a significantly enhanced multi-player capability in a free future upgrade.
It's now easier than ever to rate or review Deduce (first, sign in to Game Center, then from Deduce, tap Menu->Game Manager->Player->Leaderboards and select your choice of stars). Let us know what you think of the changes and particularly the new Deduce Puzzles.
Enjoy! And let us know if there are other features you would like to see in future releases. Visit us at www.ObviouslyGenuine.com.

Now, by popular demand, you may use either the letter dials or a keyboard to enter your guesses. Switch back and forth between dials or keyboard at any time. Deduce is fully enabled for retina displays.
2.0.2
2012-03-27
Deduce 2.0.2 fixes a bug that incorrectly displayed achievements when using IOS 5.1 on a device with a retina display.
Deduce 2.0.1 is a maintenance release which fixes some small bugs and activates an additional feature that did not make it into the 2.0 release: an Earned Achievements list for Game Center players. Go to Menu->Game Manager->Player->Earned Achievements. Tap on any of your earned achievements to learn about the literary personage it represents.
Deduce 2.0 is a major revision of the original game and features integrated Game Center support with online match play. Notable improvements include
1. Game Center integration. Statistical results, scores, and saved games are associated with the active Game Center player. If you are not logged into Game Center, you may supply your own player name for separate game tracking, or play anonymously. If you use Game Center, scores are reported to Classic, Novice, and Match leaderboards, and achievements may be earned based on the quality and persistence of your game play. Earn achievements with Deduce to discover 50 19th century literary giants of the western world, who were also masters with words. A portrait medallion is awarded for each achievement -- collect them all!
2. Online Matches. Use Game Center to play a Deduce match race with an opponent, or challenge a friend by selecting his or her mystery word yourself. If you are not racing to deduce the same word, watch your opponent's game as it's played. Text chat during or after the match.
3. Mystery Word definitions. When you finish a game of Deduce, a definition of your mystery word is provided. Increase your vocabulary as you play more games.
4. Game records. Mail beautifully formatted PDFs of your games or matches to yourself or others, or print your games using AirPrint.
5. Global settings. Use the Settings App to specify global options for Deduce, such as autosave (which automatically saves a limited or unlimited number of your completed games), and control whether or not mystery words are reused.
6. Tweeting (iOS 5 only). Find a particular game really challenging? Tweet about it to your friends.
7. Minor improvements to the user interface, including simplifications and a sound effects volume setting. If you marked a letter by tapping it, you can now unmark it by tapping it again.
8. Additional words. We taught Deduce more than 400 additional 6 letter words.
9. Minor bug fixes throughout the program.
A note for those upgrading from Deduce 1.4.3:
Games that you have previously saved (using Game Manager) are preserved under an anonymous player name. To access these games you must be signed out of Game Center, then go to Game Manager and remove your player id. Games associated with an anonymous player will appear in the Game Manager list.
Be sure to upgrade your device to iOS 5.1 for the best Deduce user experience.

1.4.3
2010-12-07
Deduce 1.4.3 fixes some visual user interface glitches that surface on iPads running iOS 4.2.1.
Deduce 1.4.2 released Oct 21, 2010 fixed several small bugs encountered when manually selecting a game number or a Mystery Word. Thanks to Dr. JL for reporting the problem.
Deduce 1.4.1 released Aug 2, 2010 fixed a bug that sometimes left the letter dials in an incorrect state following an "Unmark" operation.
Deduce 1.4 released July 17, 2010 was updated to work with iOS 4.0. Additional improvements include
1. By popular demand, the Unmark button now works more like "undo most recent mark". For each tap, only the most recent mark you made is removed. To remove all of your marks, just shake the device, or tap "Unmark" repeatedly until it grays out.
2. If you have elected not to display guesses with zero hits (via a horizontal swipe), and you then enter a new guess which also has zero hits, the invisible guesses will appear briefly and then disappear again.
3. The screen formerly labelled "Game Setup" is now referred to as the Menu (iPhone/iPod Touch only).
4. Program loading time has been slightly improved.
5. Some minor bugs were also fixed.

1. You can now enjoy Deduce while music from your iPod plays in the background.
2. If you are so inclined, you can use Deduce while still on a phone call.
3. We taught Deduce some additional 6 letter words (but we're not going to tell you which ones; it might spoil the fun).
4. Diagrams and charts in the help materials can now be stretched. Use the new "Stretchable" button to enable this.
5. We found and removed some minor memory leaks.
Enjoy! And let us know if there are other features you would like to see in future releases.
