Limited Manual Camera Setting
I love all things DJI. The Air 2 is a vast improvement over the original Mavic AIR. However, I don’t like that it requires a dedicated app and, therefore, not compatible with the DJI Go4 app. More bothersome is the lack of manual controls over the camera. Specifically, one cannot change the aperture, which on the Mavic Air 2 is fixed at f2.8. You can bracket the exposure up to 2 stops. Moreover, the user cannot set ISO. The only function one can control manually is shutter speed.

This is all great for one who wants to shoot in auto, and focus on flying. But, if one wants creative control over the look and feel of images and video, this is not the drone. One would have to buy the Mavic Pro.

This drone is fun to fly, and the new Mavic Air 2S has some interesting new features, chief among which is a 1” CMOS censor. This is great for low light conditions and much sharper images and video, as well as more dynamic range. Still, manual camera controls are limited to selecting shutter speed.
Kelvin Steffen,
DJI go apps DON’T work. Fly app only for mavics
The DJI Fly app work just fine but DOESN’T support the phantom series just mavic series. In camera mode it won’t connect to the phantom. I tried the other DJI apps like DJI GO/DJI GO 4.0 for a couple hours to sign back into my old account then trying to create a another account and it’s TOTALLY impossible to get through the next steps no matter how difficult you set your password it just vanishes and got to constantly keep choosing a different password. Also by trying to get pass the password part you have to get pass the China Mainland password part which is just RIDICULOUS. Like China took over their apps and us US people can’t access their GO apps. They need the App Store to remove those apps or DJI FLY app if they drone company won’t let ALL different drones use that app. Me and my dad was trying to get back into flying our phantom 3 professional & phantom 4 two years later and now cannot access the DJI GO apps anymore we are currently stuck in a pickle in which app actually works for our drones. I wish anybody else that has the same issues as us to find a app that is compatible for their drones, it may end up being a off brand company app. I’ve tryed a few of those and NOTHING happened. Good luck you guy….

Easy to use but many features missing, please update this app!
I love DJI products. Hands downs the best for your money you’ll get. Especially with the Mavic air 2. Love the drone, have no problems with it, and I love the app, very easy to navigate but there’s a ton of features missing that would make things so much easier to use. The gimbal speed and smoothness needs to be updated. It’s pretty hard to get a smooth shot when rotating that wheel and there’s no way to change that. Add a few more shortcuts on the front screen and make use of the FN button as a triple click for all 3 options! Also the sounds on the remote are very loud and obnoxious at times, if there’s a way to lower the volume for that, it would help a ton. Adding 4K to every option would be amazing too! Lastly I would highly suggest using more of the features from the previous app integrated onto this new app! DJI, if you’re reading this, I love you and love your products but please adjust your app to make flying a much pleasant one. I, and a few others will re-rate your app to 5 stars if these fixes are done! Anyways happy flying everyone! :)

Difficult to go from one drone to another & the options buried in menus
Not always intuitive and no SDK for Mavic 3? 😡

Even though it’s been some time now that the Fly app has been out, and DJI has added some good features, it is not easy enough to get to the features! Since many options are buried in menus, and some in strange places as well (like battery is under “Safety” 😳) it can be very difficult to understand whether or not a specific option or setting is possible with different drones, especially when going from one drone to the next. It’s also very difficult to understand why, after spending so much money on the Mavic 3, that they chose to withhold the fact that they will apparently never come out with an SDK that allows us the ability to use that drone to the max. Do they really think I’m going to sell this one just to by the appropriate Mavic 3, just to be dissatisfied again when they leave some other feature out? Especially with the issues with not being able to use DJI everywhere because of the China connection?

Unless DJI listens to its users and provides an SDK for the Mavic 3, basic customer loyalty, I’m setting my flying sights somewhere else for my next drone purchase. 😢 Sad but true!

Great beginner app
This is a wonderful app for beginner drone operators. I just got my first drone and found this app straightforward and easy to fly my Mavic Mini. The app has everything that a novice operator would need to fly their drone without feeling overwhelmed with the telemetry data. The quick shots feature is especially helpful with getting very cinematic looking footage of the subject with just a couple taps in the app. I am (mostly) happy with what DJI has done with this app. There are however shortcomings. First, the quickshots are very limited in scope. Few other quick shots would have been nice. Also there is no subject tracking feature so the subject has to be stationary for the drone to capture them in quick shots. Thirdly, the RTH height is buried in the menus. Would be nice if I could set the RTH height prior to each flight depending on the surroundings I am flying in. I honestly think DJI should implement an advanced mode in the app that operator could switch to as they become more experienced. Hopefully they will continue to improve the functionality of this app.

Great App/ Emergency Stop
Since getting my DJI Mavic Air 2, I’ve been very happy with it as well as the app. Everything is easy to get to, find, and change according to your conditions as well as preference.
My main reason for writing this review however, is to see if it is possible for the developers to add a Emergency Stop button near the Take Off button inside the DJI app. I say this to say that, a week ago I had an incident with my drone in which it crashed. The problem I had was, in the crash it ended up on its back with the blades still going.. causing more damage to the drone itself, as well as the propellers. I wasn’t able to grab it with my hands, and was in to much of a panic looking through the app to figure out how to QUICKLY stop it.
Thus, the thought came to mention, and hope that DJI would here me out in developing an app update and drone software update to support this, as I know I am not the only one that has had this problem. Or, if that situation occurs, being able to stop it before further damage can be done.
Lyon Missions,
Great app. Not THAT bad!
First of all, I don’t why there are so many bad reviews on this app. This is a great app compared to some of the other off-brand ones I have used.
Second, this app has saved my Mini SE hundreds of times. It shows battery life (other apps won’t even do that), it shows my distance, and height. It has a map that shows where my drone is. It shows GPS status, aircraft status, and so much more that makes flying so much easier.
Obviously, a lot goes into flying a drone, and it will drain your phone battery. If you have an older phone, of course it will overheat. This is a very powerful app that requires lots of energy. I don’t blame DJI for this.
If you are super worried about this, get a controller with a built-in screen! That’s why DJI makes some drones that way. I truly believe DJI is trying to make things a lot easier, and they have helped me several times.
Bottom line, ignore the other negative reviews, DJI has updated this app quite a bit, knocking out the other little bugs. I do believe you won’t have much of problem using this app.
Also, if you have limited camera controls, that is probably because your drone probably doesn’t support it. My Mini SE doesn’t support aperture, D-Log, or panorama like some of the other professional ones. Don’t blame the app for this, you simply have a simpler drone. That’s all.
veganbilly,
Amazing drone, great app with one major annoyance
I love my Mavic Mini! It’s a great starter drone. DJI has done a great job with this app, as it’s pretty intuitive and responsive. However, there’s one major annoyance: you CANNOT silence the low battery alarm. Instead, it just blares over and over again at you - starting from 20% - until you land the drone. I understand DJI did this for safety reasons but they absolutely MUST provide an option to acknowledge and then silence the alarm. The noise is so obnoxious that, for me, it basically renders 1/5 of the battery runtime useless, as I now try to land before I hear that awful alarm. I’ve read about people considering cutting the speaker wire to stop the alarm. DJI: you have an amazing product but you really need to listen to your users and provide the ability to silence the alarm! How about an option to hit OK when it first alerts on low battery?
Hagar da Moke,
Battery draining, phone overheating…
Primary complaint is DJI FLY, running on an iPhone 8 Plus, uses a massive amount of battery charge, overheats the phone and very quickly causes iOS to dim the display to avoid overheating. I’ve been flying an Air 2S with the FLY app for almost 2 years and none of the infrequent app updates have addressed this well-documented issue. We shouldn’t have to use chill packs to keep the display alive. Same phone used to fly Mavic Air with GO 4 exhibits none of the overheating issues. One other annoying “feature” is that FLY and GO 4 DJI flight records are incompatible with each other—other than flight time totals, the FLY app is unaware of GO 4 flights and the same the other way round.

I was hoping the 1.7 update would fix the overheating issue, but sadly it did NOT. In the past, I never encountered the oft-reported video lag/freeze problem, but now that’s happening too. Working around this by killing/restarting the app is scary.

And finally, we all know DJI never reads any of this.
mazadi23,
Disappointed
I have the Mavic mini and I absolutely love it, I’ve taken amazing photos and videos, but after an hour long session, before I could download them onto my phone, the app crashed, and I lost all of the hours previous work, usually I would just replace battery, but both of them were on super low juice, keep in mind I was on wifi as well as using an IPhone XR so it wasn’t the phone. I’m super upset because I put in all that work.

The customer service at DJI is also super upsetting, I had to wait an additional month on getting my drone because at first they lost it, then they “forgot to ship it” which makes no sense at all. I had to wait numerous hours just to talk to someone who couldn’t answer a simple question “where is my package”

I’m not one to complain, and always try to find the good, but the over all experience with DJI and the app were incredibly upsetting. The drones are amazing but other than that, not so great.
