How does DoMental work?

Complete a short quiz for us to understand your situation better, get matched with the most suitable therapist we have for your issues, and talk with your therapist in a secure messenger room available 24/7, no matter where in the world you are. Get daily replies from your therapist and work together to create a positive change in your life. Changing the therapist or ending your subscription is easy and free of charge.

raupster,
No Notifications + Latvian based company
Haven’t been able to enable notifications to know when messages are coming in from my therapist. Doesn’t appear to be very easy to cancel the subscription should you wish too - assuming you need to email their customer support.

Also, this is a Latvian based company - I wasn’t aware that therapists could operate in the US without being licensed in the state where their patient is but perhaps I am wrong. So far the actual communication with the therapist is good and fairly quick turnaround.

Total scam!! HORRIBLE!!
Once they have your credit card, you no longer have ANY control over billing WHATSOEVER! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!! I had to cancel my credit card & report them as fraud to get this recurring charge to stop. This is a total scam! Never even got a single reply from my therapist. Not one. EVER. In the month I had paid for this. No response from their “customer service” either. The only “profile setting” you can change in the app is your screen name. Can’t access billing or anything else. No alerts through the messaging system either (though maybe I just didn’t receive anything because my therapist never replied to me…not sure…but I didn’t see anywhere I could receive alerts when I was messaged so….I feel like it wasn’t me…it was the app.) JUST DON’T!!! Please! Save yourself the trouble& DO NOT use this!!!!!!
nerissaanela,
First therapy app I’ve used and it’s helped me so much
Starting therapy was intimidating at first. It felt like kind of a big deal. The first week was one reassurance after the other, from the therapist to the tech support people and even the emails they send (I assume everyone gets them) - it was all warm and made starting therapy a lot easier than I thought it would be. On week 2 I felt much more comfortable, and it is nice having someone to talk to on an agreed upon time each day. Gives me something to look forward to. My experience has been very positive.

Time Efficient
It’s my first time using online therapy, and it felt strange at first. You can be more open because you can choose a nickname and never sit in front of that person, but it took some getting used to. However, the awkwardness disappeared after a few days and now I’m really loving it. The app is easy to use and not crammed with features. I like it. My therapist is good and I can talk whenever I want, not to mention all the time saved by being able to do it all from home. Definitely worth the money!

Left hanging
I subscribed to DoMental for three months. I was down to the final days of my subscription and talking with my therapist and out of no where was told by “support” she was no longer with DoMental and was given a new therapist. I only had a few days left so I wrote back saying it wasn’t worth it to start from the beginning with a new therapist in my last few days and asked for any explanation on what happened to my therapist who I had come to trust as we’d talked almost everyday for three months. I got no reply, no explanation, nothing. My therapist was amazing but the final days of my subscription was just all very odd and left me wishing for closure on the whole process. I guess that’s a downside of virtual therapy but I wish things had ended differently.
luvkeens,
Awesome resource when needed
This is such an awesome resource for anyone who isn’t able to go to therapy or needs someone when “normal” therapy hours are not available. It’s also great for anyone who who had any anxieties about therapy as this can be done in the comfort of their home.
zabilevicius,
Friendly interference and therapists
It’s really cool how they send you emails with info about what to expect from therapy and what kind of stuff you should be on the lookout for as it unfolds. As someone who never had therapy before, this app has been very welcoming. Thanks!
Eddy Dubauskas,
Great online therapy
I wasn’t expecting online therapy to be so great. Simple, intuitive, matched with a great counselor. A bit pricey for someone with five kids, but I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Worse than useless
It’s like Uber for your mind, when you’re vulnerable! If you do a test you’ll note the first several weeks they learn enough about you for massive identity theft. Company T&C you warrant that the “therapists” are not employees — just like Uber drivers! —and they’re not offering medical advice.

Impossible to cancel, they have only one point of contact, help@, and when you send a contact form it gives you no receipt so you can’t prove that you’ve cancelled.
LAU DEB,
I hate this app
I signed up for this app to get quick help for anxiety. The app advertises that you can call and text- that’s not true I found out you can only message. I messaged my therapist Grace and she never answered even though they are supposed to respond within a few hours. I contacted support to delete my account and get my money back and they still haven’t answered. Do not sign up.
