Description

DriverMonitor is the in-car glanceable live timing and scoring display for motorsports. Quickly determine your position in the race, the time or laps elapsed or completed and your split times to or lap times of the class leader and the cars in your class immediately in front and behind you. DriverMonitor displays just the information needed related to your position in the race in a quickly glanceable display to allow you to compete with all the live scoring details of the race in-car with you during the event.

Great for sprint & endurance racing and especially during qualifying sessions to know whether you've just been pipped from the pole position and should attempt another flyer or if the session time remaining is sufficient for another flying lap.

DriverMonitor Subscriptions

DriverMonitor is a subscription service to live race timing feeds. Subscriptions are available with monthly auto-renewing and non-renewing race weekend plans packaged for sprint & endurance racing. Each plan is based on how much access you require to the live feed.

DriverMonitor monthly subscriptions are $19.99 per month for SPRINT racing and $34.99 per month for ENDURANCE racing, which includes 30 and 60 hours of live timing feed access, respectively. You will be automatically billed $19.99 or $34.99 through iTunes every 30 days until you cancel your subscription. Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. You subscription can be managed and the auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the iTunes Account Settings after purchase. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during active subscription period.

DriverMonitor weekly subscriptions are $11.99 per 7 days for SPRINT racing and $24.99 per 7 days for ENDURANCE racing, which includes 10 and 30 hours of live timing feed access, respectively. Weekly subscriptions do not automatically renew and allow you to pay for just the period and allotment you require. Non-renewing subscriptions are billed to your AppStore account as soon as you purchase in the app.

DriverMonitor annual subscriptions are $39.99 per year, which includes 40 hours of live timing feed access. You will be automatically billed $39.99 through iTunes every 365 days until you cancel your subscription. Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period. You subscription can be managed and the auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the iTunes Account Settings after purchase. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during active subscription period

New traffic visualization option, great for endurance racing! DriverMonitor will now predict how many slower cars you'll pass or faster cars that will pass you on the next lap when sessions are sorted for a race. Simply enable the traffic visualization in settings and the bottom row will display how many cars it expects you to pass or will pass you on the next lap. The traffic ahead is updated when you pass start/finish and the traffic behind is updated as they pass start finish. When the number is RED at least one of those passes is for position

The app is now resilient to organizers who don't send transponder number for drivers in the feed in various areas of the app and functions correctly when missing.

Added logic to automatically exit the session screen if the selected driver hasn't been across start/finish in over 1hr, as we're seeing users who do not exit the app after their session which simply consumes subscription minutes.

Improved the logic when joining the RaceMonitor servers to make it more resilient to transient errors.

Will no longer display the 'In Pit' display for driver in the pits during qualifying sessions so target qualifying splits/lap times remain visible even with your competitors are in the pits.

Thanks for using DriverMonitor! And we're back racing and DriverMonitor is updated!

If you have two race cars, you have too much money but you also can add a 2nd transponder in settings to facilitate the ease of moving your phone between cars quickly and the app will identify you from either car if you put both transponder numbers in the settings.

Have also updated the event list to include current events and upcoming events starting within the hour for when the organizer reports the event not starting until the green flag time...(looking at you ChampCar).

Other minor user interface improvements and bug fixes, including the splits and sort controls in the session display are now segmented buttons.

The shelter in place quarantine release for DriverMonitor! What software engineer doesn't relish the thought of quality time with their development tools without needless disruptions like movies, work, dinner parties, people, etc?

A minor update with user interface polish. Added an intro tutorial screen explaining the subscription structure and why DriverMonitor costs what it does.

Added Sort settings buttons allowing users to force a particular sort order (qualifying or race) for users at events where their timing & scoring crews can't seem to get that setting correct in the venue Orbits software. Users can force sort to race or qualifying and additionally prompt the user upon selecting an event. Note that even if the feed has one particular sort order sent, the user's selection will override it. With great power comes great responsibility. Similarly, if the settings pane is set to race or qualifying and the prompt is enabled the response to the prompt will override the settings selection (and the feed value).

Thanks for using DriverMonitor! The in-car glanceable live timing display for motorsports. #KnowWhatYoureDoing

This release has pit stop processing and display for endurance racing. Know when your competitors are in the pits when using the RaceHero feed and do your own #HammerTime.

Improved processing of standings calculation which will improve the In Session updating performance when running on older iOS devices.

Added resiliancy to a problem that impacted some subscribers where they were charged but the app had no record of the subscription. Added error reporting of issues.

Fixed a condition where displayed driver info could become stale when it should have been emptied (e.g. when moving from P2 to P1, driver ahead from before move to P1 could still be displayed errantly)

Have you ever been on pre-grid and wondered how much time is left in the session on track to determine when you'll go out? The Driver List view will now display the current status of the currently live session before yours displaying one of laps completed in the session, laps remaining, time elapsed or time remaining. Additionally, the flag status of the session is also displayed now in the Driver List.

This release also has fixes for RaceHero feed processing startup issues that plagued some users who joined a session prior to all racers being visible in the feed. Additionally, this has an upgraded underlying Google library that was crashing the app on startup on devices running iOS 9 & 10.

This version has minor UI enhancements over v0.33 in the splash screen, the current event table rows on iOS 10 and older devices and allows fuzzier matching of Team Name and Car Number for auto-advance at endurance races (substring matching is now supported instead of exact match).

Thanks for using DriverMonitor! The in-car glanceable live timing display for motorsports. #KnowWhatYoureDoing

v0.31 is a small update to resolve the app exiting the session prematurely in some situations and miscalculating the standings in rare occasions.

Previous builds substantial changes:

The app will now request access to Location Services one time in the Introductory Tutorial or at the Driver List view. Enable Location Services to ensure the In Session view goes into 'DarkMode' at sunset for endurance races; DriverMonitor will use your current location to determine the sunset and sunrise time to switch to and from dark mode for endurance racing.

After receiving user feedback, when the settings are entered to auto advance to InSession red text is displayed in the driver list header if the configured driver/car is not yet found in the selected event and animates while its monitoring the event feed for that driver. When no drivers are found when the settings are configured to auto advance the alert about no drivers found will not appear (the automatic dismissing of the alert was confusing to users, especially with gloves on on grid).

Feed status is now shown InSession at the top right of the screen. A green dot appears if the feed is active, gray if it is stale and red if it has not received data from servers in over 3 minutes.

Fixed an error where refreshing a subscription would display a busy indicator ad infinitum.

Initial RaceHero live feed support. Select the feed provider from the top of the list of Current Events.

The logic for joining and processing the initial state of the session should now be more reliable on older iOS devices when large (100+ cars) sessions are live.

Thanks for using DriverMonitor! The in-car glanceable live timing display for motorsports. #KnowWhatYoureDoing

This is a minor update that extends the retry period in the list of drivers when the app is looking for your info in the RaceMonitor feed. It previously would retry for 15 minutes, thinking this was ample time from the 5 minute board to your out lap but we're seeing users start the app before leaving for the grid and it then times out looking for the configured driver in the feed before the grid is released to the track. This version will now keep retrying for up to 1 hour.

This previous release includes bug fixes and user interface improvements. Did you know the text at the bottom of the "In Session" screen are buttons that allow you to toggle between race/qualifying sort and Lap Times/Split Times when the car is not in motion? Neither did anyone else apparently, so they're now styled to look a little bit more like buttons. Other fixes include improvements to the about page, settings page and removing an alert about subscription expired when its not. You can also now leave a rating for the app from the About page when you have an active subscription .

Fixed a bug where a driver who moves into the lead would have the stale split from before they were in the lead displayed.

If a race organizer is not sending time or laps remaining for a race session, if the race surpasses one our duration the laps completed display changes to elapsed time, assuming that the race is an enduro.

KevinHansel,
An absolute must-have for racing and qualifying
While there are several timing and scoring apps that are great for spectators keeping tabs on live timing/scoring and checking results after a race, this is the only app that is focused on the info that the driver needs *during* a session. As a driver, knowing exactly where you stand during a qualifying session is critical. In amateur racing, the vast majority of drivers have no idea where they qualified until after the session is over and they check the results. This app gives them that info in real time so they can decide to try and stay out and improve or not. In a race, drivers quickly lose track of the cars ahead and what position they are in. They also need to know how far ahead and behind they are. This app provides all of that info in real time.

If you are a racer - get this app! If you think about the total cost of a race weekend, the cost of this app is noise. And it will absolutely help you achieve better results!

Note also that the majority of this app’s cost is driven by the race feed costs the DriverMonitor service has to pay to get the race data. Given this fact which cannot be controlled, this app is fairly priced.
cirpse,
Great tool!
I used the DriverMonitor app for the first time at the SCCA Runoffs. It is a huge benefit to know exactly where you stand during a qualifying session. I used the split time information to know when to push and when I needed to find gaps for a clean lap. I was able to mount the phone right next to my dash, even in my small formula car cockpit. The display is clean and efficient, showing only the key info you need, and easily readable at a glance. Highly recommended for any serious racer.

Perfect Driver Aid
In a single glance, I can see my qual position and the delta to the leader and cars ahead and behind. Save tires, or make another lap? During endurance racing, my crew can focus on strategy. I can see if I can see if I am gaining on the next car in my class ~ very helpful!
TL LRR,
Driver Monitor review
Driver Monitor is an incar software tool that can give the driver vital information in an easy to digest format while racing ontrack. No need for radio comm to the team for performance info anymore!
MRC Jim,
Know what you’re doing!
I was fortunate enough be be able to use this app for a few races this season. I found it to be extremely helpful and easy to use. Having split times during qualifying gave me the information to decide if it was a matter of pushing a bit harder or whether to pit and make a setup change. During the race the info can tell you to work with the guy you’re racing to catch the leader or that you’d better get by him as the leader is getting away. How you use the information strategically is up to you. Obviously this is true if you’re being radioed the information or using the app.

For me, the app’s 2 main benefits were accuracy and the ability to check the splits/position/time or laps remaining anytime throughout the lap. I had crew radioing me this info already, but a tenth or 2 one way or the other on split times was not happening. Also, the radio call might not come in clearly or at a good time to process. Initially it took 2-3 seconds to process the driver monitor information on the display but in short order a quick glance was all it took. I used an iphone SE which is a small display, but with the contrast and type size the app uses it’s easy to read. I view the split info a lot like seeing predictive lap times. It can really motivate you to push as you can see even small improvements impacting your results real time.

If you race a formula car and can’t easily mount a display, your crew can use the app for passing along your specific splits without having to decipher it from the Racemonitor feed.
Cool app!
