Description

This programme is designed by René Fonville, general practitioner and dry needling therapist. The application features over 100 muscles with trigger points and referral patterns, and for every muscle there is a detailed description of function, anatomy and innervation in word and graphics.

Dry needling is the use of a solid needle for therapy of muscle pain (myofascial pain). Dry needling contrasts with the use of a hollow needle to inject substances. Such use of a solid needle has been found to be as effective as injection of substances in such cases as relief of pain in muscles and connective tissue. Acupuncture and dry needling techniques may be similar, but their rationale and use in treatment are quite different.

Dr. Janet Travell was an expert on myofascial pain - a term used to describe pain and dysfunction of skeletal muscles - and pioneered numerous techniques for dealing with chronic pain. Dr. Travell co-authored, with David Simons, the acclaimed two-volume book Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual. (Volume 1 was published in 1983 and dealt with the upper half of body, volume 2 was published in 1992 and dealt with the lower half.) Dr. Travell served as Associate (and later Emeritus) Clinical Professor of Medicine at The George Washington University, and remained an active figure up until her death at the age of ninety-five, writing, giving lectures, and attending conferences.

The application is easy to use and a quick help in your daily "myofascial pain" practice.

René Fonville, GP and dry needling therapist.

Mad PT,
Don't choose print option
Tried to print but app froze up during printing. Unable to get back to main screen. Disappointing for the cost. Hopefully a patch will be created to allow me to return to the main screen; otherwise this app is useless now.
aloharaerae,
Great Trigger Point Reference
I am a massage therapist and acupuncture student, and find this app really helpful and inexepensive. I have the very heavy Travell and Simons "Myofascial Pain and Disfunction" and wanted something more portable. I ended up purchasing a more expensive e-book for trigger points, however, because I did not feel comfortable whipping out the male model with all the "parts" shown for all my clients. I would use this app more if they had a female model as well. It's something I like to show my clients so it puts me at an advantage to use professional photos as opposed to a fully exposed (only illustrated) male frontal.

That being said, I really liked having the trigger points handy - but wish I would have just splurged on the book (Trigger Points and Muscle Chains in Osteopathy) in the first place. But this is a very valuable app and I will continue to use it for myself.
Rev2011tiger,
Excellent
This app is really great if you are doing or learning dry needling technique. I have been studying trigger point for over 10 years and I really appreciate the convenience of this tool. Thank you!!
IshqD,
Dry needling = acupuncture but with little training
Dry Needling: The term is ridiculous. You use acupuncture needles and acupuncture techniques but not TCM theory to do what acupuncturists do. Refer your patients who have studied the medicine behind what you are doing with those needles. Ok, you say you only needle "trigger points", right? So do acupuncturists. Keep your steady stream of income, oh you Physical Therapist, you MD. Refer to an acupuncturist for acupuncture no matter what you call it. Then the acupuncturist will refer to you for your speciality. Everybody wins.
