Description

This app provides a short, structured linguistic account of Old English and a series of interactive exercises to test your knowledge. Content is split into two sections: ‘Basic’, which provides grammar reference pages and exercises for people who have no previous knowledge of Old English; and ‘Plus’, which provides more advanced reference pages and exercises.

The grammar reference pages provide information on the orthography and pronunciation of Old English, information about Old English syntax, such as case, agreement, number, gender and sentence structure; and an overview of the Old English paradigms.

The interactive exercises help you to interpret the structure of Old English sentences, for example ‘Spot the subject’; learn which form of the definite article should be used where; learn Old English vocabulary by translating words and phrases from Present Day English into Old English and from Old English into Present Day English; and identify the form and function of Old English phrases.

A glossary of Old English words is also available as part of the app.

Planetrobot,
Confusing Directions
I love the app, but your directions for an independent learner in Appendix II are confusing. You say read paragraphs 6-14 but you don’t say in what section. Also, every page restarts its numbering at one again so it’s rather frustrating to keep track of everything. Could you amend this please?
