Factor samurai is a great way to learn times tables. You play as the samurai whose sacred duty is to cut all the numbers down to their prime factors.
You will be thrown one number after the next, cut them up if they can be factored into smaller values, if not, if they are prime, do not cut them.
Prime numbers are numbers that cannot be divided into small whole numbers. Two, three, five, seven, eleven, and thirteen are all examples of prime numbers. Four is not prime because it can be broken down in the whole numbers two times two.
Factor Samurai will reinforce the arithmetic principles of multiplication and division by continually challenging the player to remember which numbers can be factored into smaller values, and which ones can't.
As the player slices numbers into factors, those factors can be broken down further, until they are split into their prime factors.
Knowing that 63 is 3 times 3 times 7 or that 128 is 2 raised to the seventh power (7 twos!) is how you become a true Factor Samurai!

This app is amazing. So many apps are just flash cards with a theme but this is different. Kids also get familiar with recognizing prime numbers quickly and just how composite some numbers are.
I REALLY wish I could increase the size of the numbers to 100 and beyond though. I would pay to upgrade even!

Fantastically Fun and Deceptively Educational
This app has Samurais in it which makes it intrinsically sweet and worth 5 stars by itself, but once my child tried it, that's when the magic happened. It’s addicting and fun to play, and feels more like a video game than a math lesson. The artwork is also appealing, the music adds to the intensity with incredibly satisfying swiping sounds (ah the splat of a divisible number), and I liked being able to get new swords and faster number tosses as we progressed in the game. A great way for children to learn, or for an adult to dust up on, some fundamental math skills. Thank you, Factor Samurai, my child and I are now Times Table geniuses!

Fun app for kids or adults to learn and remember Prime numbers together with some math skills.
Fun game teaches Prime numbers, division and multiplication while being challenging and entertaining. Draws you in and keeps you coming back for more trying to beat your score.

Great App!
I teach fourth and fifth grade. This app is perfect for helping children master prime and composite numbers, as well as improving their multiplication skills. Although I'm not much of a game player, I've played this game more times than I care to think about - but I know my primes!
The instructions do say that 1 is not a prime. You can defeat the background music by using your headphones with music playing when you start the game. Then pause your music using the headphone switch. You still get the swooshes and pings, but eliminate that nasty background drumming.
This game appears to be designed for the iPhone 4. On the iPhone 5, you lose the top of your screen so the game is harder to play.
Overall, an excellent tool for learning!

Very misleading
Does not “teach” multiplication or division… it just throws numbers at you that your supposed to know if they are divisible or not by the number shown.. not appropriate or helpful for 3rd graders struggling to learn multiplication.

Excellent game and addictive! Great for kids too!
This is a wonderful game that keeps you thinking and has excellent gameplay. It took me a few times to get the hang of it (and to remember that 2 is also a prime number), but now I can't stop! I've been practicing prime numbers with my daughter - this is an excellent way to make a game of it. Really pleased with this purchase.

Really Helped My 4th Graders
Factor Samurai was a fun and educational game. We were working on prime factorizations and breaking numbers into primes. We think that Factor Samurai was the most fun Math app we've used in our classroom this year. 1/2 of the students in the class went home to download it on their personal devices.

A family mind game
This game has an easily addictive quality to it. You can't simply attack anything that moves; you have to think and react quickly. For an extra challenge, play this with a friend! Definitely something to try for yourself. You'll want to get this game!
