Ed read,
Nothing revolutionary.
The main idea of scanning film is retention of quality and resolution.
It's almost comical to shoot photography, then use a camera phone to reveal high res photographs. It's a couple steps backwards.

However I love the app, simply becuase it allows me to get a decent idea about how my photos turned out immediately outside of the darkroom, before I can take them home to use a film scanner
ziptwang,
Delivers!
This app is fantastic - I have boxes full of old family negatives - Black & White, Color, Large Format, Small Format, you name it - and Film Scanner is easy to use with a clean interface and it just works.

It does require two iDevices; one to act as the "light box" and the other to act as the "viewer". Enabling the light box sets one device up, unsurprisingly, with a neutral backlight where you can place the negative and with the other device set to Viewer mode, you can view the "positive" image in real time. No need to take a photo first or go through a conversion process. This makes it easy to quickly swap out negatives or line up multiples on an iPad screen and quickly find the photos you want. There is also the option to take a photo of the positive.

I am now energized to power through those boxes and find out what I really have.
CardiologyGuy,
It works!
Not the best quality but it lets me see how my pictures came out before I officially pay to have them scanned. It's best if you use an iPad as a light box and an iPhone to take the pictures. So you need both an iPad and an iPhone to make this app work. I have no complaints.
CinnShoog,
Pretty cool app. If it didn't crash so often
Like the tittle suggests. The app is nice but it crashes more than it works. I would also like to see an exposer adjustment.
Lunch brake,
Doesn't work.
Neither functions work, one just takes a pic that you could do without the app the other is just a back light that doesn't add color to the negative at all. Don't buy.
photosbyCALVIN,
Please update this app!!
Love this app. Need iOS 11 compatibility

Promising But Buggy
This app has some great features for reviewing negatives. The white balance on the lightbox is very helpful but not very robust. I tried using the iPad as the lightbox and my iPhone 4S as the viewer. More or less worked but it does show banding due to refresh rates. My biggest complaint is that when you try to take a picture the app crashes (probably issues with needing to first get permissions to access the camera roll). A few little tweaks and this would be great.
EDHBlvd,
Garbage
Can't edit photos taken of a negative with native iPhone camera app. Must use apps atrocious camera function. Slow. Super low resolution. Absolute garbage.
Picky pilot,
Film Scanner
Totally useless. Don't waste your time or money.
