Description
This app is a visitor guide for Fingle Woods, an ancient woodland site located in the Teign Valley on the northern fringes of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is a partnership between the Woodland Trust and National Trust. The app includes information about the Fingle Woods – its history and restoration, its plants and trees, as well as the wide range of wildlife you might encounter.
It also includes a Mindfulness, or ‘Forest Bathing’, Trail. This is about a mile long, and takes about an hour if it’s done slowly. It includes brief stops for guided activities or ‘practices’ and is suitable for children as well as adults.
The app is GPS enabled. This is used to show you relevant content based on your location. Please note that you do not have to be at Fingle Woods in order to access any of the content in the app.
The app also uses Location Services and Bluetooth Low Energy to determine your location when the app is running in the background. It will trigger notifications when you are close to a location of interest. We have used GPS and Bluetooth Low Energy in a power-efficient way, however, as with all apps that use location, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
