Description
Fort Adams, a National Historic Landmark, is the most complex coastal fortification in the United States. Constructed 1824-57, Fort Adams was designed to defend against attacks from both land and sea; remaining in active use through World War II. Self-guided tours provide unmatched views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay from atop the walls, access to newly restored areas, the Parade Field and more. In partnership with the State of Rhode Island, the Fort Adams Trust, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has invested over $12 million into the Forts restoration.
