Description

Glyx is a user friendly database displaying nutrition details for approximately 1000 various foods, focusing on the glycemic index, which are essential for low carb diets. Glycemic values are displayed by individual food in the summaries as well as on the detailed page for each food type, which also indicates the glycemic index. The Glyx diet is similar with the Montignac und Logi methods, which also are part of the family of low calorie diets. This app also assists diabetics to configure an optimal diet.

A summary page enables a sorting order to display nutritional values, or alternatively vitamin or mineral contents, as desired. The app can thus be used to identify foods to counteract symptoms of deficiency in nutrition. To facilitate the search, the various foods are grouped into categories, with individual buttons for direct access. The search function works either for all foods or within each category. Upon selection of an individual food, the list shows the nutrition facts and facilitates the calculation of the various values with individual quantities, as entered on top of the page next to amount.

The supported nutrients are: Energy, protein, alcohol, water, carbohydrates, sugar, starch, fiber, fats (saturated, cholesterol, poly unsaturated, mono unsaturated), vitamins (A, carotene, B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, B12, D, E), sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, iodide, zinc.

Glyx is currently available in 4 languages, English, German, French and Italian and supports metric as well as imperial measurement units.

In the pipeline for future versions:
• Assembling various foods to piece together an entire meal.
• To save and share own menus with other users.
• Rate and ranking of menus
• Search for foods based on ingredients and nutritional values
• Calculation of nutritional data for entire meals.
• Direct comparison of foods

GuiltyBits is made up of two software developers and Glyx is the result of some efforts in their spare time. Our vision ist he creation of user friendly apps with high functionality. Your feedback will be very much appreciated and any help to improve Glyx is welcomed.

Aaaabbbbbccccc,
Upgrade slow, no support
Saw complaints about limited set of items, but I liked the UI, so I purchased the food list.

The download took forever and appeared to not work. Finally did complete.

Tried the “contact developer” link, but it’s a useless web page.

Others complained about having to pay for data, but I prefer this model since I can see and evaluate UI before having to purchase. Other similar apps charge upfront, so you have to pay whether UI is good or not. Free apps that I tried were all too clunky - obvious why they are free.

Food list also has issues. Items are too specific (crispbread with sesame and crispbread with linseed), and weird- raw chicken? Raw potatoes (But not baked or fried potatoes)? Raw rice? Dry pasta? I think most people eat these things cooked, so why include uncooked?

Bottom line: Has its issues, but easily worth the $2.
eleanayoo,
Best in AppStore ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you want to quickly search for foods glycemic index or load, this is the best app I’ve found in the App Store. It has a nice user interface and plenty of data, if you buy the full list (Stop complaining about needing to buy something, there are people who need to make a living. Program your own app, if you think it needs to be free!)

Now, There are a couple of improvements that could be made though, that’s why I don’t give it five stars.
◀️ Swipe left on an iPhone should return to the list, but it opens the menu (found out it works, but inconsistent.)
🈲 There are some issue with displaying the correct detail in the list, when deviating from the Settings default. For example, changing ordering from glycemic Index to load, or changing the base weight of products. When changing the base weight, the index is newly calculated, but the coloring is wrong (for example, load is now 13, but green instead of yellow).
📲 The app should be optimized for iPad as well.
Jsabins,
Helpful, great interface, needs more foods and explanations
When searching there are numbers with red, yellow, green circles next to them. I can not figure out what those numbers represent as it is not GI or GL. What are they?
***1234****,
Needs work
Can’t see past magnesium in the minerals section
NagyMule,
Inaccurate information
Most of the values for glycemic load are completely inaccurate and way too low. Do not trust this information.
SMG$,
Not very helpful sorry
I paid extra for premium version yet found this app and wasn’t very helpful. It didn’t have any of the foods I ate and searching was difficult.
not-lee,
Rip off
Completely in adequate. Under sweets they list five products including plum pudding. To get to their “full” list is $2.99.
D3583,
Useless. Uninstalling immediately.
Not even watermelon or popcorn made this teensy tiny list of foods available to look up. Waste of time.
errnwith3kids,
Bait and switch
Watermelon isn't on this list. But if you'll pay $1.99 you can find it. What bs.
M zub,
Worst
Short list !
