UT_Presto,
Great start, room for improvement
I love this app but it could be so much more! I would love to see this app as a Yelp for paddling. It would be great to be able to comment and leave reviews for the different locations and add more of a social media aspect to it. It would be fun to have your friends on the app with you and also meet others through the app. A meet up feature would be cool. Also I think a feature where you could “check in” at different locations and then see all the places you’ve been and share that with other. This app has been a great help since I starting paddling but I’d love to see it grow into something more!

It’s fine
Like a lot of other reviewers have said, it’s a good app but needs improvement. I downloaded this as a beginning kayaker in an unfamiliar area (Central IL). It does help you find launch points and gives you an idea of the amenities, but that’s it. There are no landmarks on the map to give you context for what you’re looking at - for example, Mackinaw State Park has a canoe launch that’s on the map, but the state park itself isn’t, so I have to cross reference with Google maps to find what I’m looking for. Whenever you navigate away from the app, it resets to your current location. This may be aspirational, but it would be cool if it would tell you approximately how many miles your trip down the river is on the float plan. Finally, maybe it’s just because I’m looking at remote access points in Central Illinois, but there are almost no reviews or pictures on a lot of these points, which is not the app’s fault but it would be nice if it was more of a crowd sourcing tool for launch point information.
javawriter_was_taken,
Great offering! a bit awkward to edit
Love that you’ve made it possible for us to discover nearby opportunities, contribute new places, add comments, and give feedback on existing details.

Ideas for improving our means of giving feedback on existing details:

- if I’m rejecting a location as a duplicate of an early location, offer that as a selectable reason; Also, it was awkward trying to describe the nearby duplicate, and I assume that this app only reports the current location I am giving feedback about, not any nearby locations…

- offer rating of helpfulness or quality of other people’s comments, and then bubble up the best of the comments

- if someone rates a comment or description as weak or not helpful, trigger review (which could auto-notify the OP to go improve their review... if you enabled edit of things we post)

- offer “out of date” review reason for feedback on a comment or photo; eg I saw a photo of a metal staircase from a few years ago, but none exists on that due bank now; I saw a comment about using said staircase, and that comment should be edited or removed, or enable us to downvote

-Photos: enable voting on the relevance of a photo for the location; good photos would convey issues about I put in or key visual characteristics of the paddling experience; less relevant would be seeing someone with their dog in the kayak

Needs a few things
Great app but I REALLY wish safety warnings about dams could be added to the map as a different colored marker. I noticed a few launch sites really close to a dangerous low head dam in Harrisburg did not have the “hazard” box checked, and seeing a marker on a map would be much more helpful for pinpointing hazards like this one. It would also be nice if there was a way to “check off” places I’ve been, maybe be able to change the color of the site marker. I also noticed a bug - when searching for a city if I try to open up the information for a site, when I tap on the marker the bottom tab doesn’t pop up to take me to the information about the location. I have to zoom in on the spot and the use the list option to open it. Overall I like the app it just needs a few things/fixes
IndawoodsA,
Works nicely for Us
We’ve had this app for a few years now and use it regularly. We’re seniors and have two sets of touring/sea yaks. We also like to camp and brings a set with us wherever we go. We combine our destination with camp and launch sites to make the most of our stays.
National Parks, Historic Sites, Forests, State Parks, and rare KOAs or private campgrounds combined with hiking apps and this app keep us covered. We also use the Day One app to chronicle our trips via picts and extended comments for future trips. And Yelp helps locating food. I mention this all to validate this Go Paddle app and an integral part of the whole for avid outdoor fun. The more comments at the launch sites the better folk! Enjoy.

Handy paddling location app!
We have used this app on many occasions to find places to launch our paddle boards, and with the “ favorites” feature and ability to post comments, it is a handy way to weed out the locations that will and won’t work for our needs! Once in a while we find that locations shown on the app are incorrectly placed (so you can’t find the launch site) or the launch is no longer there, but for the most part the app is a good tool to have! One must keep in mind that the app can only be as accurate as the users who are posting 😊
Ski Racer Girl,
Dogs Allowed or Not
This app does not state whether dogs are allowed at the various locations or not. We drove 45 min to a lake and upon arriving, saw a big “No Dogs Allowed” sign. We planned on taking our dogs out on the canoe. The next closest lake was twice the distance away and we didn’t have time to go all the way over there, so we had no choice but to just go home. Absolutely ruined our afternoon.

This app should be more like AllTrails with all the details listed for each paddling location. You know, to actually help people looking to paddle somewhere. Most listings only have the name of the lake, probably as given by a random app user, and little to no information. Needs a lot of work.
JustinDnik,
It’s almost perfect
I’ve used the app for one trip and this far and it figurines seamlessly. I really like the trip planning feature. The one thing I wish it had was a description or review of the spot. I would love information on the trip itself. Like for instance, I want to put in, in a new spot on our local river. But I know that our river can be to shallow in places occasionally and has a few big waves and hydraulic lifts. Does this spot set me at those areas or am I far enough on front of it? It would be nice to know from previous users.
ecodiversity,
Is this app still active?
Useful to a degree, as noted in other reviews. But although I often upload new pertinent info for existing locations where access and other critical factors have changed, seem like none of those get added by admin. My updates get received, but not acted upon.

Also appears that the developers have not updated this app in 2 years. Strange! This app could be so much more than it is right now…. but appears to have been ‘abandoned’. Sad.
AlwaysOnthegoguy,
My go to app for Kayaking!
Really love this app for planning a get away for my wife and me! She always wants to go kayaking but not plan a thing so it falls on me to get a trip planned for us. Regardless of weather we are goi g for an entire weekend or a day trip this is a great app. I have used it all over Florida and never have been disappointed. We have kayaked from the top of Florida to almost the bottom both the east and west coasts. I appreciate when others will take pictures of the place so you know aheD of time what you might need.
