Description

Learn GRE vocabulary quickly and actually have fun doing it with my cartoon flashcards! I bet this app will make you smile or laugh at least once.

My name is Vince Kotchian, and I've been a GRE prep tutor since 2008. In this app, I've created flashcards for over 1300 GRE words and 160 word roots. Each vocab flashcard has a silly cartoon, a clear definition of the word with an example sentence, and a memorable mnemonic to make it easier to remember the word.

Here's a mnemonic example so you know what I'm talking about: "prodigal" means "wasteful". The prodigal Prada gal spent $1500 on a pair of Prada boots. Get it? :)

The app's smart spaced repetition system shows you words when you need to review them to make your GRE vocabulary studying more efficient and effective. There's also a streak feature to help keep you motivated to use the app consistently. Download it today and start improving your GRE verbal score!

Nufile,
Life? Saved
Although, I believe something is wrong with the streak counter, hopefully it’ll be fixed in the future updates. ❤️

Really love the app, this deck was the reason I had to go on Quizlet and I’m not a big fan as I’m more of an Anki person. So this is a game changer for me, especially with the addition of Spaced Repetition.

Edit: Would love to have a feature where I can see how many cards are in learning phase, what they are and a search function. Basically some more features that makes it a little more tweakable like Anki.
Vampivy23,
better than I expected
it's only been a few days since I started using it after going through the magoosh apps. to be honest I thought a lot of the sentences/illustrations were kind of cheesy, but some have actually turned out to be pretty helpful memory devices. loses like a star and a half for the few gross/juvenile cards and typos
update: lost another star because yeah, I get that the definitions have to be short, but many are incomplete or cover a scope either way broader or narrower than the word actually implies. I keep having to check with other dictionaries because I would not get on well only using the definitions as they appear
Powa2ya,
Superb content!
The artistry and time invested into designing visual aids for EACH of 1300 words is astounding. This really helps me remember the words as a visual learner. The mnemonic devices on each card are great too. For being 3 months old this app is incredible.

A few ideas to establish yourself as the leader of the GRE prep pack:

-add a shuffle feature to the card deck for cards I have yet to master. This will allow folks to review cards in a different order, thus solidifying our memory of words. This feature alone would be worth $5 to me, and I’d be happy to pay for that add-on
-make the sound setting permanent and save in the app (I can turn sound off to listen to music but when I leave the app for a while or turn off and back on the setting is reset). This is really just a minor tweak.

Overall a great app, with unmatched content. With a few tweaks it could be perfect. I highly recommend it!

Vocabs are Great but App needs to improve
Great way to learn Vocabs. I have loved studying these in Quizlet however I didnot find the option where I can go to vocabs from a specific alphabet and study them. For now I will continue studying in Quizlet. I hope the developers will also add a option to go to the folders where vocabs are organized by alphabet. Also the option to go inside the folder of A or G any alphabet and search and find a word like in a Dictionary would be awesome. 5 star for Vocab Cartoons and 3 star for the App.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST
Struggling with grasping the nuances of the GRE vocabs? This is it. Congratulations for finding it! All cartoons are well made of high quality and made the perfect connection with the words. With 1300 vocabs, this is a great set with enough essential vocabs to help your prep. Not to mention my favorite part of the app, it accounts for the streaks of your study. You can also set how many words you want to learn each day and what words can be removed from the list. It’s flexible! Most importantly, it made learning fun!!!

Almost great
It’s a pretty cool app, and I love all the effort put into mnemonics and illustrations, but I wish there were a way to review via flash cards (not just scrolling through the “review” list) while keeping your “removed words” out of the deck. It becomes pretty tedious to constantly be quizzed on the easier words that are already part of your everyday vocabulary, and even more so when you can’t swipe it away without having to flip to see the definition you already know. (Hopefully I’m just overlooking a button for this?)

Dare I Say the Perfect GRE Vocab Study Buddy?
When it comes to studying for the GRE Verbal section I’ve tried them all: Magoosh, Kaplan, you name it. They’re bloated, poorly designed platforms for selling you more tutoring services that you don’t necessarily need. Then in my search for a GRE vocab app that was focused on expanding my vocabulary (and nothing else) I found this app and I felt like my prayers had been answered! All of the core features for rapidly ramping up your vocab skills are right here at my fingertips, finally! Bravo!!

Updated Review
After properly learning how to use the app I definitely give it 5 stars. The illustrations are extremely useful when it comes learning and remembering the words. Lastly, I previously gave this app 2 stars because I was having trouble with swiping/dragging but after the developer got back to me it works perfectly. Never has a developer responded to my review and they definitely go the extra mile. These people want you to succeed.

Time-saving & effective
I solely used this app to learn vocab and was surprised how well it worked. I scored even higher than I wanted on the actual GRE verbal section! Here is what sets this app apart from others:

1• truly *memorable* mneumonics and puns

2• spaced reputation that actually lets you learn effectively

3• a day-to-day “streak” for encouragement

4• Memorable cartoon imagery

5• Simple and easy to use

Two small possible improvements:

a) A search bar for previous would be insurmountable. When grading practice questions, I wish I could search a word on this app.

b) when I “remove from deck” it still keeps that word in the daily pack of words. Can it be removed right away and be replaced with a new word?

Thank you :)

Unable to swipe
Hello Vince, I am a big fan of your Math Knight app and I definitely understand why people love this one too!! Just one little issue that I have noticed is that I can’t seem to be able to swipe right, left, up, or down. So the word doesn’t change unless I swipe out of the app completely. Is there anyway around this?
