Did you ever try to keep a diary but never succeeded? Or did you have writer's block problem? Grid Diary is here for you.

Grid Diary is introducing a unique way of writing a diary. In Grid Diary, diary entry is made up of a number of "Grids", which is as simple as a question, prompt, or etc. It is like a pre-defined template for the diary. Thinking and writing in this way is more effective, and it feels more natural and fluid. You still have total freedom in the amount of the grid and the text you want to fill in a grid.

We started with a simple and clear purpose, and have always kept minimal design in mind. Through carefully crafted gestures, Grid Diary enhanced user experience in many ways.

Grid Diary Classic is now retired

Grid Diary was launched in early 2013 as a paid app. We consistently rolled out free updates, feature upgrades, and customer support for over 6 years.

In January 2019, Grid Diary 2 was released as a brand-new app. We spent over 2 years on new UI design, rewriting every line of code in Swift, building our own sync server… to create the brand-new Grid Diary. Believe it or not, the more we afraid to die out like the small outstanding product (without a steady income to support everlasting development), the more we work hard and value our users.

This app is now renamed to Grid Diary Classic. Users are still able to download it from the App Store. It remains mostly functional, but as software services such as iOS, iCloud, Dropbox change and update, we can no longer keep this legacy app functional.

At this time we recommend transitioning off of Grid Diary Classic into Grid Diary 2 on iOS. Grid Diary 2 was made a free download, and allow users to import their data from Grid Diary Classic at no cost. There is a membership upgrade option via subscription for users that want sync, passcode lock, color themes, and many other new features. We are also offering a 6-month free trial for pro users.

The new subscription model in Grid Diary 2 allows us to continue updating this single version indefinitely. We will never release a new, separate app, all future updates and upgrades will be part of this app binary.

Some of you may be surprised by this change. But it’s the result of a long-term discussion about how to put Grid Diary’s development, and the future of our small team, on a sustainable foundation.

We feel this is best for our users and for the future of Grid Diary. We believe that it will be a life company for you and we want to be around as long as you are to store your memories.

DJ Rizzo,
Disappointed in new business model
This is a great app that has helped me a lot. However buyer beware: I bought the pro version of this original Grid Diary just 2 months ago only to find out today it will no longer be updated - starting *last* week. Gee, thanks for the warning. I believe developers should be compensated for new releases and understand the need to focus on the new release; but to suddenly cut off updates for customers like myself who paid for this app just a few weeks ago is incredibly disappointing. I believe the fair thing would be to continue maintenance releases for the old version for at least a year so anyone who spent money on it will get a fair return on their investment. By suddenly stopping all updates on the old app, it feels like the dev is trying to force users to spend money on the new app - and spend a lot more at that since it is a subscription model only.
✨SilverGold✨,
A New Way of Journaling
Usually when I download a “diary” or “journal” app I often get conflicted on what to write. Sometimes I have days where I don’t do much at all and the page often looks almost blank. Most days I have no idea what I’d write anyways! It can be so difficult.
But with this app, writing down simple responses is the perfect way to reflect on your day (especially when you love answering questions).
It gives you a nice range of example questions with different topics and of course you can write your own custom questions as well; that’s a nice add-on!
Even though I haven’t gotten the Pro version of this app it’s still very useful and doesn’t flood your app time with meaningless adds. There’s the occasional pop up asking if you’d like to update to Grid Diary Pro though which I can’t complain too much about.
Overall, this is my favorite journal app and I think I wouldn’t use any other one. It’s simple and to the point. Nothings cluttering the screen, it’s very organized and has a nice aesthetic and minimalist feel. Love it!
Spice.of.life,
I'm daily journaling! I'm more aware and grateful.
Thanks to this easy to use journaling tool, I am able to keep up with daily journal entries again.
I used to keep a daily hard bound journal for many years, but as interruptions increased, I was missing days and weeks at a time. I'm so glad I am back to daily journaling with the help of this app.
I mostly use it on my iPad, but since it is synced with my iPhone I can journal while I'm waiting for my food at a restaurant like I did yesterday.
An unexpected benefit has been that I find myself being more aware of the important things in life, like making time with family and friends. This is a bigger priority since I'm aware I will be recording it.
I've added a questions like, "Where did I see the hand of God in my life today?" This has helped me spiritually and increased my awareness and gratitude.
I've also added "Things I'm praying for" and "Prayers answered." It's really added value to my life in unexpected ways.
I've added, "Current events" to include what I'm aware of happening in my community and the world and my opinion of it.
I'm emailing my entries to myself and still printing a hard copy because that gives me some security just in case the electronic copy is lost.
I paid for the full version because it's well worth being able to add as many photos as I like. Plus the cost is minimal compared what I used to pay for my hard bound journals.
I highly recommend this!
Suetap,
Great app - highly recommended
I love grid diary. I like that I can customize the prompts to what I want and can change them at anytime. Using this app has helped me to focus on what I am grateful for and celebrate small, daily wins - two things shown to improve our happiness. Even on “bad” days I can always find one thing I am truly grateful for and often that leads to another and another and then the day isn’t so bad after all. I also use it to help me notice accomplishments at work especially on those days that it feels like I ran from one fire to the next and didn’t mark anything off my to-do list.
I truly believe focusing your thoughts on the positive can change your life. Since using this app I have lost 5 pounds and gotten a promotion with a $20,000 pay increase. I’m not saying it was all because of this app but it has certainly helped me keep things in perspective.
Everyhotcheetlolbreath,
Nice, but needs a desktop app
Pretty great so far. I like that you can customize the prompts and have a default template, or just switch it up from day to day. I’m glad to have found a diary that comes with prompts! I’ve only seen them as physical books before, and who wants to buy/carry those everywhere? This is perfect for me. It is a bit annoying to type from my phone, but that’s not the app’s fault of course haha. It’s disappointing that there’s not a desktop/mac version of the app so far, but at least you get to export with evernote. If you have a long commute like I do and are fine with typing on your phone, this is the app for you. If not, you may want to try another that has cloud capability and an app for the desktop
KimFH,
Great Potential - Needs more...
Found this app while looking for a way to primarily journal what I wore on certain days to certain events...and note what I did at work each day.

Started with the free version, but due to several limitations & needing a richer experience, I purchased the Pro version. There are still limitations that, if improved, would make this. 5-star app.

Must link thru Dropbox or iCloud to sync. I don’t think I’ve seen an app require this. Perhaps many do, just none I’ve encountered.

Formatting is BASIC. Entries look double-spaced. The is no single space option, which I would prefer when I am journaling. There are a few font options, but are very similar.

While you can greatly alter the grid prompts and templates, you cannot change the default. You must change the template manually daily. In a perfect world, default templates could be recurrently scheduled, perhaps by days of the week.

It would be a very nice bonus if tags & searches were added.

While I have not experienced this issue, I have read on another review that the app only allows for 9 photos - total - for the whole app. I love the app, but for a paid pro version that syncs & backs up on my cloud storage, that would be a deal breaker.

If photos are limited, I will lower my rating of this app and delete it.
If improvements listed above are made, I will upgrade my rating and sing its praises.
beepboopbuuubeep,
Love it!
I really like the relaxed feel of this app. I don’t like keeping reflective journals—even though they are great for mental health—because I’m afraid of messing up a good notebook with crappy thoughts. However, just writing down some ideas, even just to get them out, is really good for you. I light of this app is very low stakes and allows me to change the prompts as I feel that I need to for the day. Some days have more events than others, some have more special connotations than others, and some are just about getting through the bad. And I love that flexibility. Plus there’s a stats check that lets you check your overall mental health over a period of time. Which is great if you need a quick snapshot of how you felt for a week/month between talk therapy sessions. 😊
Kevychevy420,
Enjoy Journaling?
If you enjoy a different style of Journaling, rather than plan ol' white paper with lines. And are looking for something just a little bit different, then this is the one for you! Using a grid style with pre-selected prompts (which you can change, and use your own questions or select another from there own list of prompts) to each box, (which again you can change the amount of boxes you use or add more for more details about your experiences throughout the day). Not to mention adding a picture or two to your entries (limited number one is able to add if not a pro member, which honestly is $5.00 for life, one time fee or $1.49 per month) worth every penny honestly,in my opinion.
ElBeeButterfly,
Interesting, but Want More
For starters, this is an easy, fairly self-explanatory app to use. I’m loving the prompts, as I feel it will inspire me to actually use the app and start journaling consistently. I do wish there were more features to truly personalize the journal and add creativity, such as being able to change font color and style WITHIN each individual grid, choosing your color for backgrounds, and even adding in stickers, to make it more like a bullet journal, if desired. I feel as though the paid version does not offer enough features for the amount paid. However, for what it is, it is pretty good, and may be useful. So I will stick with it & see how I feel about it as time goes on. Worth a try.

Easiest way to track those routine questions
I’ve been using this app for over 2 1/2 years once you get the basic concept down (which does not take too long) it is extremely helpful to keep track of basic questions that will help you track your day. For instance: “how much money did you spend?”, “Did you exercise today?“ , did I sleep and how long?” Just things like that are really useful with this app it’s one of those apps when I get a new phone or restore from a full reset, bread diary is always one of the top apps that I have to put back on my phone affair with you to google maps so it’s that kind of helpful and useful I would say
