HangArt is an inclusive K-3 literacy game, created with educators. Our design is inspired by research which shows that connecting words to their meanings through pictures helps children become strong readers and writers. In HangArt, children practice 200 K-3 spelling sight words in a three-part literacy playground:

PLAY HANGMAN
A family & classroom friendly word game. Say goodbye to the violent, macabre image of a man on a noose that has long been associated with the hangman game. Our "hangman" is a friendly guy who hangs from a monkey bar. In our fill-in-the-blank word-guessing game, each correct letter guess is rewarded with the reveal of part of an illustration of the missing word. When you lose a word, our "hanging man" falls off the monkey bar. When you win a word, you are rewarded with a complete original illustration of that word. Our original drawings celebrate the diversity and many are inspired by art, culture, and history!

WORD GALLERY
Children draw their own pictures of the words they win using our custom drawing tool. They can also watch video playbacks of the original illustrations in the app, created by illustrator Kavita Ramchandran.

STORY STUDIO
Children record, save, and playback digital, animated stories using their winning words!

FEATURES
• No in-app purchases and no Internet required to play
• Play word games in one or two-player mode. Great for family screen time.
• Practice handwriting in Letter Tracing Practice mode using Castledown, a dyslexic-friendly font custom recognized by Wired magazine as a “font designed to help kids learn to read and write”
• Free guide for parents and teachers at www.hangart.co
• Original music and sound FX by Nickelodeon/Dora the Explorer composers
• Reward badges inspired by mindset growth philosophy
• Grownups Dashboard with in-depth analytics

Forest_Wench,
Diverse and fun!
Hangart is so much fun! This great game is perfect for long car trips where you want the occupants to stay alive, awake, alert, and enthusiastic instead of just zoning out in front of another movie. As a dyslexic and someone who comes from a diverse family, it was nice to see the easy-to-read font and inclusive depictions of people from every walk of life. I also recommend the story recorder and drawing tool. It’s better than most painters I have seen out there. The app also works best on a tablet, but it worked fine on my phone, too.
Pashna,
Classic game reinvented!
HangArt is a creative and educational spin on the classic hangman game. I used to love this game as a child! It makes perfect sense in the age of technology for this to be an app. My daughter is 6 and loves HangArt (and I love playing with her). She can choose the level of difficulty she wants to attempt. As she guesses letters, a picture starts to form to help her along and she can also get hints if she wants. Once the word is revealed, she enjoys tracing over the letters. The words get added into a word gallery where she can use her imagination and creativity to make up her own story from them. It's fun and interactive. The illustrations are colorful and so cute! I really appreciated the attention to detail such as the diversity depicted in the illustrations. What's not to like? She's learning vocabulary, letter formation and exercising her creativity. I would highly recommend this app to parents.
DaveThinks,
Charming and fun!
I downloaded this to play with my nieces, ages 6, 8, and 10. I thought they might be a tad old for it, but they ate it up, sharing my iPad between them and taking turns guessing letters.

At some point they discovered the story mode, which I didn't even know existed, and started recording absurd and hilarious (to them) stories. That keep them occupied for a while - not counting the time they spent playing the stories back to the adults in the house.

Anyway, the sound effects and voice prompts are lovely and very not-annoying, important in a game adults have to listen to. I also found myself stumped by some of the words, so - well done!

Amazing vocabulary builder & associative thinking
I bought this game recently from the App Store for my 4- and 6-year old children. The 4 year old is starting to read and can focus on it for a long while (up to an hour or more), and enjoys the chance to draw and spell tough words. My 6 year old is learning more about the different dimensions even the simplest of words can have, and helping her think more broadly about how to form clues for her brother. The thing I love most about this app is that it has really gotten my children excited about expanding their vocabulary and word puzzles, by nurturing their love of finger painting.

Hang Art
Have kids ages 5,7,9. They all really enjoy this app and I enjoy playing alongside of them. It's a great spin on traditional hang man with a picturing forming as you guess the correct letters. You can gets hints too which helps my 5 year old move along on his own and helps me too sometimes:) There is a drawing feature too where you can draw pics of a given word and my 7 year old particularly likes that....it's a great combo of learning and fun. Highly worth the download!
nkoth,
Wonderfully creative!
I downloaded this well-made app for my 2 boys (ages 6 and 4) and can't believe how engaged they are! They love guessing which letters to choose in the clever 'hangman' section. Their favorite section (so far) is the art section- they not only love saving their creations to the photo roll, but adore watching the app re-create their images in faster speeds. This is a beautifully crafted app! Great job!!

What a great fun app!
My son who is 8 loves this app-it's engaging, interactive, and provides for a fun learning experience. Words and spelling can be scary for some kids but with the fun features of "art", story board, and the ability to play with multiple player creates a less threatening and more fun way to learn the English language. I definitely recommend purchasing this app!!!
InteractiveMonster,
I love it!
Great fun for me and my daughter! We've spent hours collecting words and love drawing our own pictures of our favorites. My daughters face just lights up whenever we playback one of the stories we created together. Great work - really building happy memories for my family :)
Biggunn01,
Fun for all ages
Hangart is more than just a game of hang man, it’s a fun but educational app that kids and adults will both enjoy. The animations for correct guesses is just as fun to watch as the animations for wrong guesses. Get the word right, then learn (by doing) how to spell it. In the Word Gallery, learn a new word and draw what you just learned! It’s so much fun!
Kdawg2332,
What a fun app
What a great app for any age! The app is so much more than classic hangman as the words are connected to spelling and storytelling. Love how the hints are increasingly helpful. Really well done and incredibly fun!
