nosaj128,
good and challenging and kinda lags
I'm very much enjoying this trivia. The only annoyance keeping me from playing more is the transitions between levels. First it counts up one at a time your rank, tap continue, next screen again counts up the score one number at a time while displaying your position on a map moving one space at a time. I think I'm a person but this just gets a little annoying over time. And what's the story with all the maps anyway? The first looks like a city at war, then later a lava wasteland. But still a very addictive game for sure.

Note to dev: on the question asking when china first put a satellite into orbit there is a misspelling in the question, 'tis'b should be 'it's'. I could be wrong but don't think so. Good game.
Lahwrenzeaux,
Extremely Abstract and Irrelevant
I really want to like this trivia game, but the pop culture questions are far too abstract from general knowledge and rely too much on an individual seeing a particular movies or knowing certain songs that aren’t necessarily cultural cornerstones. I’m a trivia nerd and there’s several questions that stumped me simply because I had zero reference of the topic in question. Generally, pop culture questions should be around topics that are relevant enough that even if you aren’t an expert on it, you’d still have a chance of making an inference based on your experiences from other people and other media. Several of these questions are asking for specific anecdotes from specific scenes of specific movies or shows or books that are in no way culturally relevant outside of it may possibly be in your weird neighbors movie collection.

Outside of the usual trivia issues of questions being too US centric, particularly white US culture centric - it’s disappointing that people from other cultures or backgrounds would need to feel as if they need to assimilate themselves to what is deemed “culturally relevant” when they may have not been exposed to the same experiences as an American WASP. I have the same feedback for other trivia games like Heads Up. Please do better about including a broader selection of trivia that is relevant beyond a white American perspective.
Sonata261,
Lucky it’s part of arcade, PLEASE CHANGE!!
These people took what could’ve been a great game and destroyed it! I can’t imagine anyone would pay for it separately. You get TEN SECONDS to read the question, pick an answer and the ones you get hints for aren’t fully revealed until you maybe 3 seconds left. Most of the hints aren’t even helpful. For example, they’ll give a picture of President as clue but for the ones 1800 or 1900 hundreds. Who knows what they look like? Most of the music questions are for bands in the 70’s or early 80’s. The target audience for Arcade barely know the 90’s. You get math questions and the best is to tell what’s different in two pictures. It could be a full picture of tiny beads. Most of the questions if I wasn’t rushing and had even 5 more seconds to think I would’ve gotten it. If the developers of this game read this stuff either make the questions much easier, give hints for all questions that are actually helpful and/or INCREASE the amount of time by even just 5 seconds! You’d have the best trivia game even outside of arcade. I don’t know how this game has the overall rating that it does as it is now. FIX IT FAST!
wylmcc,
A for Effort; But disappointing
Overall, this is a fantastic idea for a game. It’s a fast-paced trivia that seems to work. Where the game falls flat is in four parts of its execution: First, the trivia is so obscure as to make the game more irritating than fun (name the number of this random sports star). While questions like that truly are “trivial,” going too obscure on what is otherwise a general knowledge game detracts from the fun. Second, the ten-second time limit makes some questions go by too fast - especially when you are dealing with the level of obscurity in this game. Third, the non-trivia subjects (face mash, I spy) attempt to add to variety, but again detract from the general knowledge approach.

In general, the game suffers from a balance issue. In many cases the questions are either way too easy or way too hard, not many in the sweet spot. The result is a trivia game where your score is less representative of your general knowledge skills and more an indicator of how lucky you got.

Nice try on the concept. I hope to see some tweaks to the questions.
🐯 The White Tiger,
🧠🖲️
i enjoy this game and its mechanics—been playing it since its release—but there are two major items that put me off:

- some of the hints are a bit lengthy, so trying to read them AND the answers within ten seconds is a bit frustrating… leaving me to just randomly pick an answer. i feel 15 seconds would be more user friendly (especially seeing a majority of the reviews i’ve seen have complained about the same thing).

- i mainly play this on my apple tv, so when you pause—especially on the daily challenge—the timer continues ticking down (i.e. i literally JUST turned on the game and selected daily challenge, and—at the same time—received a phone call. i paused the game, answered the phone, and moments later, the screen showed “congratulations! you completed the daily challenge” and i hadn’t even answered a single question… so, now, i have to wait a whole day to play it again). it would be pretty difficult to cheat as the pause splash screen covers the question and answers.

i really hope these changes will be taken into consideration and implemented in the next update.

Tom Hanks deserves better.
I only played 2 levels before I deleted. There’s entirely no reason to have all the extras, it takes 3 times longer than necessary to play the game. You answer 3 questions, it recaps which you got right and wrong, and then moves your pieces along the pointless board reminding you which you got right and wrong. Then for true/false questions you swap the positions of the options. After 3 questions. You answer the first one, false is on top. Ok let’s check the 2nd, yup false on top. 3rd question false on top? Yup, then that’s established. Ok 4th question true, that’s the bottom one. Nope, you switched the positions of the answers for some reason. Tom Hanks deserves better than this. Obviously he isn’t doing QA or a final review before release, so I’m not blaming him. But I am blaming the dev team having such a bad game with extra bad points for having the audacity to release this with Hanx name on it.
Jasmine423,
Fun, but some comments
I think the game is fun, but I do have a couple of comments/questions. First, I don’t really understand the point of being awarded “trophies”. What can you do with them? I’ve got thousands and they don’t seem to be for anything except the knowledge that I’ve answered a lot of questions correctly. ? It would be good if you could trade them for something. Secondly, when playing the Quick Play, Multi-player games recently, the game gets hung up and stops responding when I get to the Epic card pack round. I’ve contacted the support team already so hopefully they will be able to sort it out.
Justin N Osos,
It’s Got One of the Hanks Brothers Voices, Not Much Else
Challenging trivia questions should be hard to answer. Sometimes things only experts in a given field could come up with quickly, but they should always be something someone has had some chance of learning by osmosis of living in a world you’re paying attention to. Questions from left field about 1980s professional darts players or the founding dates of midsize regional corporate franchises when alongside a point system that rewards consecutive answers over total correct answers make it feel more like a game of chance than a measure of one’s intellect or grasp of trivial matters

The vague reward system of confusing cards, annoyingly repetitive kudos from either Tom Hanks or his voice actor brother, and the lazy approach to offering players metrics or statistics on their gameplay makes this game feel like a missed opportunity.
'Ff'lo,
Really needs improvement
The graphics and sound are good, and the Hanks stuff fun (tho you only get to see a typewriter once), but 4 problems:

(1) So many inaccurate or terribly edited questions/answers, and the reporting flag (a) has to be hit before you answer, when you're in a time crunch, and (b) results in two few explanation options for feedback. Typos and rendering errors should be an option to report ---plus how about a text input, for the many "other" things?

(2) As you gain experience and are "rewarded" with more categories, they new categories are more specific/niche, so you get worse at the game. Your high score from early will never be approached again.

(3) Lots of questions don't really match their categories. Or you'll have something like most of the questions in "Cars" bring about auto racing history.

(4) No one uses the greeting messages in multiplayer, making it feel less friendly than if they weren't there, having to be waited through.

It's totally promising, this game, but pretty sub-par in execution. Hire a copy ed for the questions, at least!
Wiggen,
Needs some work… and not really trivia
The app thinks the Liberty Bell is in the city of Pennsylvania. The app thinks the distance to the sun should be categorized as geography. The app thinks the iPod was released in 33,390. I get so caught up in these little missteps, I have trouble concentrating on the game. Speaking of the game, much of it isn’t trivia: guess which two celebrities have been combined in this picture, or how many objects have been removed from the picture to form the new picture (Hint: it's always the highest number). When it is real trivia, it's often very obscure, requiring a guess. For example, which of these tennis stars won the 1984 French Open. Nope, this app has potential, but only after some major work and editing..
