Description

YOU MUST HAVE A RICOH THETA or THETA S CAMERA.
Do you need 360 degree HDR Images for Visual Effects, Video Game Development, or Virtual Reality? Welcome to the best value for the process. The Theta S Camera and this App are 10% the cost of the next best solution. Images are great for Unity 5, Unreal, Nuke, Modo, Vray, Maya, IBL, PBS, PBR, Light Probe, Reflection, and more.
This app and it's results have been used in Film and TV by Visual Effects studios around the world.
A Full HDR Bracket Capture is done in 60 seconds or less.
This app is made for Professionals and Advanced Amateurs. It's not a toy and it's not a Tone Map Image Generator. This is for making real dynamic range. Yes you can use the images to generate a tone map "HDR" style image, and they look great, however the target for this app is Light probes on a set.

Our beta testers are VFX Sups, leading researchers, and game developers. Their feedback helps shape what this app can do.

Fixed Brackets
This mode takes the same exposures each time, the schedule is defined by the Image count you select. Ranging from 1/6400 to 1/1.6 seconds.
The point of this mode is that it shoots as fast as the camera can to slow enough for most scenes.
White Balance: We don’t have access to raw so you have to pick one. Daylight is recommended as it’s closest to the native sensor data.

EV Comp
This is the “Smart” Bracket mode. It has it’s limits, especially in low light. This shoots 1 image as an auto exposure then reads the exif data to calculate what the other exposures should be. This is limited by the fact that the theta S has a minimum shutter floor for the auto exposure. A future app update is planned to have a compensation for this.
This mode is great because it let’s you define your EV range and Shot count dynamically.

Night Master
Hey my interface is all dark! Yes. Because this mode is for use in night photography and it’s not nice to knock out your night vision. This mode is very different as it’s not HDR focused. It’s for shooting great theta images in low light. I have been taking late night long exposures for years and this is built around my workflow. Ideally I want to shoot at iso 100 for the best quality and longest light streaks. However that means very long shutter times. I also want to know what exposure setting to use without having to shoot 40 and 60 second images. The way I solve this is to have buttons to quickly change the ISO without effecting the exposure. This means you can move the slider in LQ mode, hit Capture Long Exposure and see a result quickly, repeat till your happy with the results then press Med or HQ and shoot your final image. This mode saves 20+ taps in the Theta S official app.

Connect : connects to a theta camera, If your already on the Theta wifi this should happen automatically. If you get disconnected the button will try and re-connect.

Switch Camera : go back and pick the Theta m15 or Theta S

Help : That’s how you got here.

Gear Icon : Opens the settings page, that’s where the audio beep mute and volume is.

Preview Results : After you take Brackets, this button will load the very low res previews from the camera very fast and put them in one image viewer at the bottom of the app with a scrub bar. This is not a live preview, that will come in a future update.

Auto Tone Map HDR : This was added to the Theta S camera in the new firmware update, it’s an auto exposure image of -2 0 +2 EV that’s tone mapped into 1 image. It takes around 10 seconds to shoot.

Brandon Danowski,
Looks Super Functional, but I wouldn’t know
Shame on me for not reading the app description thoroughly enough. I have a Theta V 4k and mistakenly thought thought this app was compatible with it.

It. Is. Not.

Hopefully this will be updated in the future with support for the Theta V, then I can actually use it! Until then, I’m out $50.
Anthony Abbott,
Happy with old theta S- unsure if works on new
Brad does this work on Ricoh Theta SC2? In the past I have been a big fan of this app for 3D lighting, but for an older theta.
I am unsure if this app works yet— so far I have not been successful.
RedeyesXBL,
Worked on my ThetaS, won’t work V
.. even after the update. Sorry to say, had a use for it.
Doodlerboy,
Overpriced
So something to know. Taking hdrs with the Ricoh theta in general doesn't work, since your whites get clamped to 1. Which means you'll need to increase your HDR intensity really high to see results. Secondly this app is overpriced, and you can get a better app that allows you to actually control your iso and shutter speed for $2.99, instead of $49 with no control. I bought both to compare, and this app performed very poorly compared to the cheap one. Do yourselves a favor and just use something else.
VR photographer,
It works
I went to make some sky boxes using the default Theta app and it looks like it does what you need to do HDR composites but it doesn't. Behind the scenes it is adjusting gain on the images adding noise making them unusable. This app, HDR 360 fixes that. It works!
towercontrol123,
easy hdr
Great for photography and for CG work. Easy to use and takes about a minute.
oohem,
Issues.. No support
Love it when it worked.. except for whatever reason I'm getting concentric black rings in every image now. The theta s app works fine so it isn't the cam. I can't seem to contact the dev because I don't use Twitter. Frustrating. This is an EXPENSIVE app.
mrklambert,
Great HDR app for theta s
Straightforward and simple to use interface and the fast "preview" of HDR is great to see
