Description

Knowing your current heart rate is useful, but seeing in real time how it varies over a longer period gives you much more information, especially when trying to understand how your body is responding to a training plan. Heart Graph can be used for all types of aerobic exercise including running, cycling, rowing or gym work, and of course you can also use it to study your normal heart rate for general health reasons.

Heart Graph allows you to record new data and see your heart rate graph in real time, as well as importing existing data from Apple Health. Data from previous sessions can then be compared to give a deeper understanding of how your body is changing over time, for example by directly comparing the graphs for equivalent sessions, viewing statistics such as max, mean and resting heart rate across sessions, or seeing the proportion of time spent in different heart rate zones aggregated over weeks or months. (Note some features require a one-off In-App Purchase, as described below.)

FREE features of Heart Graph include:
* Display a real-time graph of heart rate against time on your iPhone or iPad
* Support for both Bluetooth sensors and Apple Watch
* No ads
* Review your sessions offline to spot trends in your data
* Integration with Apple Health: import existing workout data and store new workouts
* Maximise the screen area for graphs on iPhone using landscape orientation
* Group related sessions by adding your own notes, then searching for sessions matching those notes
* Record a standard Reference Set at the start of each session to help determine how your body is really doing; if your heart rate is elevated, you may want to take it easy
* Record data in the background if you want to use other heart rate apps (Bluetooth sensors)
* Calculate calories burned, and set a calorie target for each session

Beyond the basics, a single, one-off In-App Purchase will enable the Premium Features, giving you access to more in-depth analysis tools and the ability to design your training sessions in the app. These Planned Workouts split a session into small pieces, for example sets at the the gym, or intervals on a bike. When you’re exercising, Heart Graph will keep track of where you are in the session and what’s coming up next, alerting you when it’s time to stop or move on. The trigger for moving from one set to the next can be a simple time gap (“wait 30 seconds”), or be based on heart rate to allow a specific amount of recovery before continuing (“wait until heart rate is below 120bpm”). The outcome is a structured plan that adapts to how your body is responding each time you do that session.

Premium Features include:
* View and analyse the time spent in each of five configurable heart rate zones
* Add annotations to the graph during recording to help identify key events
* Heart rate alarms when your heart rate changes zone or goes above or below configurable thresholds
* Import data from the Health app for custom time periods of up to 24 hours
* Directly compare graphs for equivalent sessions
* Compare statistics (such as max, mean and resting heart rate) across sessions
* Record a session to explicitly measure resting heart rate while you relax
* Audio rep counting so you never lose count - make a noise every time you complete a rep and the app keeps track of how many you’ve done
* Import and export heart rate data from other apps or your computer using Garmin TCX format files
* Import Garmin GPX format files
* Export data to CSV files for further analysis in software such as Excel (email, Dropbox, etc)

Heart Graph requires an external sensor to record heart rate, such as:
* A bluetooth (BTLE) sensor such as the Wahoo Tickr / Polar H10 chest straps, or the Mio Alpha watch
* An Apple Watch
* An ANT+ sensor connected using the Wahoo Key

DISCLAIMER: Heart Graph is not a medical device, and you must always seek a doctor’s advice before making any medical decisions.

For those users with both iPhone and iPad, we’ve brought you the ability to automatically synchronise all your workouts between both devices - if you record a new workout on the iPhone and have Sync enabled, it will automatically appear on the iPad, where of course you can see the graph in much more detail.

We’ve also made the following improvements:
- You can now choose to have heart rate alarms delivered as a single notification rather than a continuously sounding alarm
- The workout graph on the Apple Watch now auto-scales the y-axis to match only the data shown, meaning you can see more detail for the most recent few minutes
- Minor bug fixes and enhancements

Firstly, we would like to thank all our long-standing users for their support, and to welcome those of you who have started using Heart Graph more recently. A lot has changed since we first released Heart Graph on iOS6, and so we’ve made some changes to how the app shares data with other apps including email, Dropbox, AirDrop and AirPrint etc.

You can still share everything you used to, but it’s now possible, for example, to send workout summaries via email when you’re not using the Apple Mail app, or to send via the Messages app. To reduce confusion, we’ve also simplified the sharing options available to the following two items:
- Share summary data (including an image of the graph, workout notes and time spent in different heart rate zones); this is also useful for printing graphs.
- Share workout data (as one of TCX format, for sharing with other apps, CSV format for your own analysis in Excel or Numbers, or Polar HRM format).
If you want to export data files to Dropbox, please make sure you have the Dropbox app installed on your device to make the “Save to Dropbox” option available.

We’ve also made some other improvements:
- A notification will be issued if your sensor loses signal while recording on your iPhone or iPad. You can use the Apple Notification settings to control how (or if at all) you are notified.
- Minor bug fixes and enhancements

Pinklifehandbook,
Life changing, and easy to use fo people who workout
I purchased the paid version and have been using it for years now. I was a new runner and needed to make sure I was exercising in the right zones. Everything I need is available any simple to use in the user interface face. For example I can see my heart rate sent from my Apple Watch and it’s classified by work out. For example one might say cycle or it might say strength training or it might say yoga. If I don’t like the default name I can change it. I can compare my heart rate graph between several workouts. I can see the detailed graph for one workout and also look at the time spent in each HR zone. I can use default settings or customize my HR zones. Seeing this data is valuable. I will admit their are other apps now that can do the same and more. For example I recently bought a Whithings scale that comes with the free healthmate app and it keeps all my data from multiple sources in one place. As a result I don’t use this HR app much at all anymore. However if you don’t already have a universal app and all you need is detailed HR tracking then this is the one for you.
LiveOaks1,
Wonderfully adaptable
Fabulous way to keep aware of your heart rate as much as you want in the moment—or to quietly record it for later review.

For health reasons I need to know my heart rate at all times. HeartGraph lets me set my alerts just as I wish. I can set it to alert me when my heart rate moves from one zone to another, and I get full control over the zones. I can set up to *six* different alarms, so that I'll know when I've crossed certain thresholds. I can tell without looking at my phone where I am, both by what musical tone is played and also by the number of tones.

The only thing I would change about this app is that I wish I could review previous sessions while I am in the middle of recording a session, rather than between sessions only. Since I use this for living and not only for exercise, this would be a huge help for me.
The Last Nickname is the Worst,
Simple and Cheap - Does 99% of what I need
I use this to track my time in zones across multiple workouts with my Polar strap. I am not a workout warrior by any stretch, so I mostly just listen for the zone alarms and look back to make sure I am normalizing my effort across multiple (rowing, biking, HIIT, etc) workouts. It works, connects to Apple Fitness, imports data from the Assault Bike/RowErg/Garmin stuff I use, and is cheap to boot. We spend more than $3 on a coffee… The ONLY thing I would like to see (and i may have not figured it out yet) is just a big honking real time heart rate on the screen. I use another app that displays this alongside a bunch of other data, but I would really love a simple screen display that shows HR and maybe current or elapsed time….
running for fun too,
Review my heart rate after every run!
I’ve been using the heart rate app for a few years and like to see how I have to work harder now to sustain a higher heart rate. My goal is to train 20% of the time at an intense level and it’s easy to see if I need to back off or push harder. I like being able to adjust my zones because I have an exceptionally high maximum heart rate and standard zones based on age don’t apply. I also like to check my recovery time by making a time based chart that I can easily delete. I always make notes about my run and then do a copy paste of the notes into my calendar. If you’re a data junkie this is a great app.
I wish there was a way to combine it with a pace and elevation chart. Someday.
Danakx,
Excellent app
I have used this app 24/7 for over a year now. I am monitoring and managing an illness where I have to pace very restrictively to avoid getting worse. I start a new 24-hour session every morning. I appreciate the ability to customize zones, as my upper limit and therefore intermediate zones are much lower than typical. Heartrate is clear and easy to see as are zone divisions. Alarms are helpful, and each zone has an appropriate number of beeps to indicate the level. The ability to compare workouts (for me, entire days) is very helpful for tracking progress as well as the longterm comparison of all sessions. I tried several apps before settling on this one. It has been by far the best for my needs.
heart healthy joe,
Great heart rate tracking app
I’m not ready to buy an Apple Watch so I paid 2.99 for the premium lifetime upgrade of Heart Graph, with no adds it’s a real bargain. I use this with my iPhone and later download it to my iPad for sharing with my doctor. This can also be done automatically if you want everything going to iCloud. I have a Mio alpha 2 heart rate monitor (a very basic hr monitor) it works great with this app. I like the graph and notes. I use this for walking up hill. At 70 it’s good to know when you can exert more or need to slow down to keep in cardio. You can setup your own heart rate zones. Heart Rate Training is essential. Comparing graphs is great. I don’t usually pay for apps and I started with basic app.
HP16T,
Great app But...
I love the app and use it almost daily to monitor my heart rate. Has a great display for what you doing and the history of the workout.

But. Reference sets are ridiculously complicated. I still haven’t figured it out. All I really want to do is put a previous work out on the display so I can see how I am currently doing on my current work out. This should be as easy as a butting to display previous workout on the workout screens It does great at comparing previous workouts, but I have not found a way to display the previous workout while currently working out.

Overall I will continue to use it until i find something that works better.
Christofer Williams,
HR zone alarms!
The data tracking and other features are okay, but they can be found in most other workout apps. Honestly, I haven’t spent much time playing with the reference sets, etc, so I can’t really comment on their usefulness.

But the various heartrate alarm functions are fantastic, and for some bizarre reason, this (and setting your own HR zones) is something that RunKeeper and a lot of other workout apps don’t do.

No more staring at my phone when doing a lot of aerobic capacity building. I just set the alarm at my AeT and have it tell me my heart rate every 30 seconds so I can stay right up against that limit on those endless runs. That alone makes this app worth having.

One quirk that I’m a bit surprised by: when you change your HR zones (say, when updating your AeT or AnT after capacity-building phases), it changes them on ALL workouts you’ve recorded, not just future ones. You don’t lose the actual recorded data, but it does make the zone stats on historic workouts completely useless.
Okie Quakie,
Great app for monitoring SVT
I have a heart condition called SVT which is apparently random episodes of elevated heart rate often above 200 bpm When it happens I put on my heart rate monitor arm band and link to this app. It works great as a record of episodes and allows me to add notes such as what I ate or did prior to the episode so I can try to figure out the triggers for SVT. I also note what actions seem to stop the SVT. Having been to the hospital ER several times I was able to verify that this app along with my arm band monitor display exactly the same readings as the ER equipment. I hope the app support continues as I’ve got dozens of recorded episodes with notes that I’d hate to lose
skdiamond,
Nice Basic App
I’ve used this app for a few years now. Very happy with it. I just want to go on a long run or bicycle ride and (1) see my heart rate as I run (2) see plot afterwards so I can review what heart rate zones I was in. Problem solved. Connects well with my HRM, simple plot, doesn’t use too much of my battery, stays active until I dismiss it (phone doesn’t go to sleep on me) and records my workouts.

I also like that the app doesn’t try and do too much. I get annoyed with apps that want to connect to all your friends, post to Facebook, track your whole life, etc. This app does just what I want. Thanks!!
