Description

At The Museum of Military History/Historical Institute of the Military, (HGM/MHI) you will find the military history of Austria's Armed Forces and Navy, all under one roof. Military History and wars, technology and natural science, art and architecture, are all blended together in The Museum of Military History of Vienna, to create one unique whole. The building itself, was built between 1850 and 1856, as the center of the armoury, according to plans by Ludwig Foerster and Theophil Hansen, with which they anticipated the style of Vienna's Ring Street. The predominant styles are Moorish Byzantine and Neogothic.
Currently on display in this, one of the oldest buildings in the city, is the history of the Habsburg Monarchy, from the end of the 16th Century, to 1918 and the fate of Austria, after the falling of the empire, up to 1945. A time in which the Military and Armed Forces, played a considerably important historical role and thus, take front stage.
As the leading museum of the Austrian Armed Forces, The Museum of Military History of Vienna documents, (with unique exhibits) the history of the Austrian military with weaponry, armaments, armored vehicles, planes, uniforms, paintings, flags, medals and badges of honor, battleships, historical documents and a multitude of photographs.

Rolsskk,
Poor Design and Battery Vampire
I thought that this app would be a good other language augmentation to the Museum’s exhibits, which are all in German. The utility of the app itself is pretty good, as the English commentary was done by an understandable English speaker, and corresponded with each appropriate display. But there are some major design flaws that hamper the usefulness of the app.

The poor design aspect of the app is where there’s an option to type in an exhibit number, but the problem is that it doesn't register input at all. It took me some time to figure out that I could do most of it through the map, but it’s quite counterintuitive to have the number input prominently placed in the app, only to have it not work right.

Moving onto the next issue, battery consumption. I was at this museum for about two hours, and I was using the app for less than that. At the end of my time there, there was a very noticeable battery drain on my phone. Going in to the battery stats, it showed that the app was responsible for about 20% battery drain, which is crazy, as it’s essentially just an audio player.
