I've been using this app for about 6 months or so and it has become my main social network when it comes to meeting new people. Thanks to Hello Pal I've met very friendly people willing to share experiences about their countries and cultures and I appreciate that a lot.

I like what this app intended to do...expose people do various cultures, languages, and new friends globally. In reality, I just get spammed with dozens of inappropriately sexual messages or people getting mad because I won’t send pics, even though all I did was post a question asking a cultural or language related question. Yes, I know I can click on “ignore”, but it’s annoying when over 95% of the message you get are attempts to turn this into a dating/hookup app. HiNative is a similar app that manages to accomplish the intents of this app, minus the spam. Maybe if Hello Pal were to incorporate more language related question templates and learning materials, it would help attract a different community of users. In the meantime, it resembles Tinder more than anything else.

This app is a good idea for learning languages but take caution while using it. The majority of users on this app use it for inappropriate purposes. Most people who send me messages are only sending me inappropriate photos of their inappropriate places or trying to get me to send them photos of myself. Most people you will see on this app believe that this is a place to find a quick bang or a desperate relationship and have no actual interest in exchanging languages. There is very low security and there is no way to block anyone. So be very cautious and very careful of who you talk to and remember that, despite what you see, this app is not a dating app.

Besides the constant moments and messages of people looking to date rather than learn, this app is pretty good and I’ve met many people on there that I can consider friends

When my account was reported, I was unable to report the actually awful accounts that posted discussing or racially inappropriate things for everyone to see, which I think is crazy.
The reason my account was reported was because several guys was mad that I didn’t want to talk to dudes (because all they want is to date or send nudes so I wanted to talk to only girls etc) and so they reported me for being fake, honestly I don’t know why. But reporting other accounts shouldn’t be restricted.
I’ve contacted the people in charge of those actions about how long my restriction will last, it’s been 5 days as of writing this, and I haven't heard anything.
I think they don’t care what happens on the app.

So disappointed
This app in general is good for meeting people and finding language partners. However, recently I got logged out of my account for some strange reason and when I logged back in everything was gone. All my profile and account info, all of my messages and posts and followers, etc. Some of my info remained though like my profile picture and what languages I'm learning so clearly there's some kind of bug with the app. Very disappointed that I've now lost contact with all the friends I made on there.

If you are here to make friends, good luck with that. There are a plethora of scammers on this app. User beware! Very similar sob stories. All want to switch to another app to chat because it’s easier. I have been asked for money, proposed marriage, and been told of endless “secret covert military missions”. If you take the interactions with a grain of salt at high level, it’s somewhat entertaining.
I think I might have made one genuine friend, but the verdict is still out on that user case. We shall see. 2 stars for the maybe possible potential friend.

Perverts Everywhere
If you’re interested in learning a new language, do NOT get HelloPal. You will get countless creepy messages from men, mostly from the Middle East, Africa, and India, who are only interested in flirting and getting nudes from foreign women/girls, even if they’re underaged. HelloTalk is a better alternative where you can block more countries and negate much of the pervert problem that HelloPal has, but on HelloPal, you can only block 3 countries. If you want to avoid perverts on HelloPal, the best thing you can do is block messages from ALL men, but then you won’t get many messages at all.

I installed this app while I was trying several apps to chat with strangers and at first I didn't notice this one was more oriented towards learning than to regular chat. Now I use it to practice my Italian which I was forgetting after all these years without anyone to talk to.

Lots of problems in accessibility incompatibility fifth voice over
Hello. I tried to use this app but I face lots of problems because the app is not accessible for blind users and it’s not working properly with voice over. In the beginning of creating my profile I was not able to choose nor my nationality and my current location neither my languages that I speak and I understand so I believe that this app needs to be developed more to be accessible for blind users.
