Smart search lets you identify birds just like the experts while BAM only shows species that are found in your GPS area. More Details of What’s New: bit.ly/ibird-whatsnew

Whether you are an experienced birder or a beginner at birding, iBird UK Pro contains more birds than any UK app, including 343 common and rare species designated by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

With the iBird UK Pro’s avian matching system you can search for birds by color, location, shape, habitat or any one of our 38 identification field marks to find your bird. iBird's comprehensive species pages have 1,200 built-in bird songs, 1,500 professional high resolution bird photographs, 900 hand drawn composite illustrations and over 350 range maps.

Version 10.06 of iBird UK Pro Guide to Birds now includes iCloud for backing up and sharing your own photos, notes and favorites among all your devices and a migration feature for moving from Dropbox to iCloud.

** NOTE If you would like to try out iBird with no financial investment, check the newly released iBird UK LITE Free Guide to Birds of North America. It has all the features of paid iBird UK Pro, but contains just 50 species. And it’s completely FREE. **

▶ SAVE & LOAD SEARCH - Now you can save your selected search values and quickly load them later.

▶ RETINA ICONS - Retina Icons. We have updated all our icons to be compatible with the retina display, meaning they no longer have any jaggies. In the process we updated a lot of the icons in the tab bar and on the More page. Thanks to the customers who hammered us on this detail we kept putting off.

▶ COLOR PROMINENT - This is a new attribute we are really proud of because of how effective it is for matching birds. The Color Prominent attribute is the answer to the question, "What color of the bird is most conspicuous?" It’s the color that stands out the most and is the most striking. Secondarily it may be the color that makes up the largest percentage of the bird's coloring. Try this attribute when you see a bird and let us know how much it helps you.

▶ HEAD PATTERN - Big, giant and huge update to the Head Pattern attribute. We have stressed in the Search tutorials how important the head of bird is to identifying it and none are more important than Head Pattern. We went back and fine tuned this attribute adding a new value called Eyebrow. We also made sure the Overviews reflected the values assigned to this attribute.

■ IBIRD UK IS NOW A FULLY UNIVERSAL APP

IBIRD UK--the world's best-selling line of birding apps--just got WAY better! This latest version of iBird is a major update, taking it far beyond all current birding apps. I'd like to tell you about just a few of the things we did to improve iBird. Many of the changes came from listening to our customers and we hope you continue to let us know what you like about the product.

■ UNIVERSAL APP. Most importantly iBird is now an official "universal" app meaning it works beautifully on the iPad tablet, filling the entire screen.

■ CONTENT. Illustrations, photos and range maps are now true HD 720p resolution.

■ MULTIPLE BROWSE VIEWS. You can now view species in one of four browse views: Compact, Icon, Thumbnail and Gallery.

■ SPECTROGRAM. To make the audio song and call feature of iBird SHINE we developed a special player control to bring a deeper insight to the inner structure of bird songs.

■ PHOTO SLIDESHOW. We added a photo slideshow to iBird which displays all photos randomly while playing their song or call in the background. You can pick from family or photographer. (Find this feature on the More page.)

■ CUSTOMIZED HELP. Our Help files have been revamped to reveal more about iBird and they automatically adjust to iPad or iPhone screens.

■ MISCELLANEOUS. The Band code (North America) or BTO5 code (Europe) is displayed on every species page. We also took this opportunity to fix a variety of bugs, including one in Favorites. You can read about all of them on the About page of the app and in the What’s New section of the product page.

Great app for bird ID.
Don't buy BAM,
BAM doesn’t work
This app is ok, but not great, at bird ID. The images are misleading at times, and the information is sparse. I’m giving the one star rating because the developers are selling the BAM feature from the uk app and they know it’s broken. Simply doesn’t work.
Monument mama,
Does not link with iBird journal
Very frustrating that it does not link to your lists and you have to enter every name as a “custom”. There is little online help with issues. Good for bird ID.
Doveseth,
Pleased
Excellent!
CTsurfgirl,
Best UK bird app!
This app is terrific, and has new features that I hope will be coming to the North American apps soon.

The sound quality is amazing, and is enhanced by the amplitude and spectrograms for each sound.
Most birds have multiple recordings with well-written descriptions.

I really enjoy the photo slideshow, which you can set up to view by photographer, species, or family. Having the sound recordings play at the same time has really helped me identify calls.

I was also impressed by the artwork and the high quality of photographs.

The search engine is easy to use and quickly lets me identify birds, I love that I can take this anywhere and not need an internet connection for this app to work.

I have 2 other UK bird apps, and this is by far the best. It is the most comprehensive, has the most photos and sounds, and is a pleasure to use.

I 100% recommend this bird app.

This is an OK app. It would be much, much better, however, if one could list the birds in taxonomic order. I don't find listing alphabetically by family very helpful. Most modern field guides are arranged taxonomically and most serious birders think that way.

I do like the additional photos. I found them very useful during a recent trip to the UK. Some of the range maps are out of date. For example, we found Linnets in the Outer Hebrides and we learned from a local expert that they have been breeding there for a number if years. The range maps do not show Linnets there.

There is an error for the Ring-necked Parakeet. The listing says they were introduced in 1069. I strongly suspect this is a typo!
Bird Novice,
Very Easy to Use
My husband and I have been coming to the west of Ireland for the last 30 years, but I have not done much birding here. I recently arrived in Ireland and loaded this app. I have an app on my phone from National Geographic and find this app better. Multiple audio calls and photos for each bird as well as the "range" feature are most helpful. I have already identified many birds not common to the US.
rmb901,
Great app
We use iBird in the US all the time so it's great to have the same format to use while traveling in the UK. It would be nice if the thumbnail pictures showed male and female dimorphism (or alternate juvenile plumages) but the photos often solve that problem. The app is my only bird guide for this trip, I've been using it on my iPad mini quite a lot.
PuffyClementine,
AMAZING!!
I have IBird Pro and this is just as wonderful. I upgraded from an iPhone 4 16g to an iPhone 4s 64g JUST to accommodate more bird apps! ALL of the IBird apps blow away the competition(I own their apps TOO). Just keeps getting better and better and better. The IBird apps are my very favorite out of my 300 or so apps!! They are worth EVERY PENNY.
Bananabirdoriginal,
Love it
It is a great way to prepare for a trip. You can limit your region, which brings up just the birds you are most likely to see. Then you can study them one at a time, painting, photos, songs, range, information. An improvement would be to also restrict by season(s).
