Description

It is now possible to create your own vocabulary lists though an In-App upgrade!

Vocabulary/Flashcard training tool for:
- Greek (first 300 words with audio)
- Biblical Hebrew (first 300 words with audio)
- Latin (extracted from the Summa Theologiae)
- Create your own lists through the website http://vocab.idoms.org/
- Many parameters are adjustable
- A brief summary after each exercise
- You can create your own custom lists from the words in the App
- Optionally practice both ways

I wrote this program because of my own need to train my vocabulary. What I find most important is a combination of repetition and automatic progress. This App tries to achieve that. With the use of a point system. The App registers how well you know a word. If you know a word good enough, it will only ask it once in a while for the sake of repetition. When a word is classified as known, a new word is added to the next exercise.

A lot of the parameters of the App are adjustable, and this makes it a very flexible flashcard application.
The first 50 words are for free to test the App, after that vocabulary sets can be purchased using In-App purchases. The revenue I use to pay towards my development cost such as Developer License etc.

Please be aware that you need to use the restore purchase function if you want to use the App on multiple devices. This is for free (you will never be charged twice for the same list) and the button can be found at the bottom of the list with vocabulary sets.

Steve94070,
Great app
I am learning Ancient Greek as an occasional hobbyist, and I have found this to be a terrific application. Very helpful to have the audio files for pronunciation (for the first several hundred words). I like that it will occasionally bring back words that were already learned, as a refresher. There's a little funkiness going on with the iCloud connection, which in theory should let me keep apace when using either my iPad or iPhone -- sometimes it seems to work but other times not. Overall this is great. I would like a similar app for homeric greek -- maybe it is in the works????
Shadron Calisti,
Great job
This app has great audio. It also implements an approach to learning that is effective.
Call me Gideon,
Limited but has potential in future updates
The app is ok, nothing fantastic but also not horrible. I bought the app for my iPad initially with the Greek New Testament and Hebrew flashcards but the app is going to make me buy them again to get them on my iPhone which I think is ridiculous so heads up all you people who use multiple platforms and make sure you figure out which one you really want.

As far as the actual testing goes there is only the flashcard manner of learning. There isn't a multiple choice, reverse multiple choice, quiz, auto shuffle feature, or some of the other niceties that flashcards apps like gFlash offers. Also there isn't any way to add and/or modify cards.

Some of the cards are either incorrect or just weird, for instance the Hebrew card yom (יום) has a mystery segol vowel preceding the word, מלך has a ה following it with a sheva under it and an "n" with the spanish looking circumflex accent above it. Also, I should note that there isn't any indication of gender with the Hebrew flashcards.

One nice thing though is that the Hebrew verbs do include the qal, niphal, hiphil, and other binyanim verb forms where applicable.
Servet,
Great app
I love the idea and the fact that it can be used for free at the basic level.
I do wish the Hebrew font was larger on the screen, that way it can be used to train with a partner, for quizzing, etc,
I contacted customer support this weekend because the app kept crashing on my iPad 2 (solved with a re-install) and they were great! Fast answer via email with hardly any wait.
bakervillia,
Great for Language Cross Training.
This isn't the prettiest looking app, but it's extremely effective at its intended purpose, which is to learn Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. It is a fantastic resource for any biblical student interested in beginning to explore the languages of the original texts. It uses proven methods of Neuro-Linguistic Programming to teach vocabulary, which are very effective. Just in two days of use, I've doubled my vocabulary of all 3 languages! Thank you so much for this wonderful app!
MLSVA,
Excellent
With the ability to buy (for $2 each) comprehensive lists for the Old and New Testaments (Hebrew and Greek respectively, of course), this app is a great way to gradually familiarize yourself with the vocabulary of the Bible. It has an excellent system that introduces new, rarer words once more common words have been learned. Easily worth $4. It also allows you to focus on the Latin of a part of the Summa and the Greek of Romans, which are very nice features.
Boaz846,
App no longer works
No longer working after updates. The "I know" button no longer gives the word 100% value. This means you can never complete or "learn" a word and move past it. I never get to the words I don't know because I can't get rid of those I am well familiar with. Even making "right" give a higher percentage I cannot get rid of the words I know. I have it set on including only 1 word from the previous list that I know, but I still get the same list over and over. The app used to work fine prior to the update. Please fix. This was an amazing tool.
SeminaryBibleJunkie,
We'll see
So I had to buy the vocab list once I installed the app. Ok. Slightly dubious. I bought the Hebrew list. I appreciated the Bibleworks cf for the frequency of the word. I'm a little ticket that the vocab is in a quiz format AND there are vowels presented preceding words and non Hebrew letters at the end of certain words. I expected more from o.p.s. I want them to fix these problems so I can update the product. I cannot recommend this app for anyone needing it for academic study of any type.
Royal Montgomery,
awesome!
i got this for help learning Greek & i love it! it is SUPER helpful because you can check your pronunciation - the audio is great and i wish other language learning apps had this same setup! i like that the words cycle the more that you learn! i might have to start learning Hebrew now because it makes Greek so fun & easy. thank you!
dantal0,
Excellent Tool
I love this app. I use it to practice Hebrew and Greek vocabulary. The vocabulary sets are a good value, and it is very usable.
There are occasional bugs, but if you email them, they will fix it, and the overall value and simplicity is such that I still give it 5 stars.
