Description

iHarmony is a fully complete collection of all the scales, chords and harmonizations you can find in music. It's very common for musicians getting confused about music theory...

"what notes the G# diminished 7 chord is made of?"
"what are the degrees of the Bebop Dominant scale?"

or even worse...

"what's the harmonization for D# Melodic Minor scale?"

No more getting annoyed to search the web about that Lydian 7b scale, the Neapolitan scale, or the Whole tone scale!

iHarmony offers you the most complete set of scales, chords, and harmonizations with over than 1500 entries and audio clips! The whole musical harmony always with you on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

You can choose between English (C, D, E…), Italian (Do, Re, Mi…), German (C, D, ...H), and French (Ut, Re, Mi...) notations.
Extremely useful when you write music, before a jam with your band, to do the functional analysis of jazz standards or just to do your musical homework.

Particular attention to accessibility and VoiceOver support.

iOS 13 dark mode support.

A must for every kind of musician!

cmruko,
Quick and Easy Key/Scale App
Great app to quickly and easily listen to a lot of different keys, and scales to pick one for your song. This app has helped me branch out the scales I use to write songs. I wish I could save my favorite scales though.
P. Schuster,
Very useful app!
I have found this app to be quite handy as an arrangement tool when I don't have my instruments at hand to play.
rjmdrum,
Nicely designed app working on audio issue
This is a nicely designed app and worth it for the visual content but, so far, I have not been able to get audio to work in iphone.
Kralkaverita,
Wicked Good!
This app is a splendid refresher course of my Music Theory classes almost 45 years ago. Quite useful in many ways!
Joseaamezquita,
Really good app
Enjoy this app a lot
Jeannie317,
Exactly what I needed (for 99 cents!)
Thanks very much for this app. I usually compose and play music alone, mostly by ear, but for the last few years I've started jamming more often with other people. When someone suggests playing in a key that I'm not that familiar with, I sometimes have to swallow my pride and ask to be reminded of the notes, or look it up in my scale book like a school kid! I would probably remember the notes once we got into the song, but under pressure your head can go kind of blank, and this is app is a really fast and easy reminder. Just touch few buttons and I'll know which notes to play. A tour through the app has also given me ideas on how to proceed with new, more Eastern style arrangements that I had thought of (but was a little unsure of before since I am pretty unfamiliar with those scales). So this is great. Thanks again...this is a wonderful reference piece at a great price. Very appreciated!!!!!
Highway6.,
Not bad at all
Definately has a plethora of information.. so kudos for that.
Here are interface changes I would recommend that would knock this up to a 5 star.
In the Scales, Chords, and Harmonies - separating information by Natural on one page and Sharps and Flats on a 2nd page is Not good. I rather see it all on one page. Also, the txt is very small in the Harmonies section. Why not just have all the information one one page, with good size txt throughout, that you can scroll up and down on.

Additionally, in the Harmonies section, I think putting it in table form with the Nashville # system, and with shaded columns for major I IV and V and would be very helpful.

Lastly, The Notes section.. I like, but Why not have all the chords available. This section should have as much information the Chord section... it should be two ways of looking at the same information. One by kind of chords for any given note... and one for any given kind of chord, all the posibilites given for each root.

Regardless.. good start, definately recommend this... look forward to improvements.
Zerex71,
Great app!
UPDATE: This app could stand a refresh/makeover for iOS 8. Also, the accidental symbols ought to be in front of, not after, the Roman numerals.

I just purchased, installed, and started using this app and really enjoy it. As they say, it puts a lot of theory at your fingertips. Now, for a few things I've just noticed:

1. Some of the chords have incorrect notation. I realize there is some variability in chord notation, but trust a jazz musician on this:
- Use the delta symbol for major chords and triads
- Major 7ths and Dominant 7ths should not be confused

2. If you turn the volume all the way up, the speaker gets overdriven (distorted) trying to play some of the notes.

3. It might be the note spacing, but some of the playbacks sound stilted or like they are being played unevenly or in a poor rhythm.

FEATURE REQUEST: Please add many more exotic scales!
FEATURE REQUEST: Please allow a setting where chords can be played harmonically (all notes simultaneously) instead of just melodically (one note after another)
FEATURE REQUEST: Can you provide other theory features such as harmonic substitutions, polychords, and inversions?

Other than that, great application!
SergeP,
Poorly designed and not accurate
I have taught advanced music theory honors to prepare students for college as music major for the past 20 years and got is app on a lark to see if it would be a good tool for students. It is not. Is is inaccurate and misleading in its use of basic theory nomenclature which can make it confusing for theory students.

For example - chords are made up of steps of a scale and each note within a chord is called a factor, and is referee to by an Arabic number (1,2,3,4) - not a Roman numeral (I, II, III, etc.) roman numerals should only refer to chords as they function within a given key. For example in C Major the I chord is based on the first step of the scale and is made up of steps 1,3,5 of e scale. (scale steps should also have carrots above them but couldn't type that)

To me this is a big problem as students of theory regularly mix this up and get confused by the different numbering systems and their meanings. From the reviews it seems that many users downloading this are also beginners ( btw - the scale that goes with the dominant chord is the mixolydian scale - he major scale with a flat 7) It also just lists chords and scales with no information or association between the scales, chords, etc.
This combined with the annoying 5 flat instead of flat 5 - not a great tool.
TyMP,
Concept: Good, Proprietary Naming: BAD!
I love the idea of this app. As a relative beginner in music theory, it could be an excellent reference with 2 changes:

1) Include the scale formulas

2) Do away with the made up naming conventions. I constantly have to refer to the developer website to get a handle on his made up naming scheme to use the application so I find myself saving the extra search and just looking up the raw data on the web. It usually takes a bit longer to get the info off the web but at least it's standardized so I can understand it & actually talk to other musicians about it. The deltas and pluses are incredibly confusing and largely detract from what could be a really good application.
