Inner Strength is being used by all upper grade students in the Philadelphia School District to support mental and emotional wellness.
Inner Strength fuses expert mindfulness instruction with the latest understanding of the development of the brain, and how shifts in culture affect our experience. Teens learn how to focus and calm, dial down anxiety, and build healthy relationships starting with their own care for themselves.
Students learn:
Tools to develop good focus and study habits
Dozens of guided mindfulness practices
Activities that teach the science of the teen brain
Social skills and positive communication tools
Culturally relevant exercises, reflections, and challenges
12 subject-oriented sections help students learn a variety of mindfulness exercises. Students have different learning styles and interests. Through this well-rounded approach, every student can easily find an appropriate entry point and instruction that captures their interest and guides them to reduce anxiety and develop self-regulation, both essential strengths to bring improved learning outcomes.
The Inner Strength app is multi-layered. By bringing in a deep-time developmental narrative covering millions of years, teens learn how to see that their experience is the result of ongoing growth and adaptation. They expand their horizons and discover that aspects of their experience are simply part of normal brain development.
With a focus on Love, kindness, and wellbeing students learn to be kind towards themselves. With so much pressure and competition, it is essential that teens learn to cherish their uniqueness and to be gentle with their own learning curve. Students will find joy and enthusiasm in their everyday experience by following Inner Strength activities, challenges, and badge-earning competitions. They learn that they have a big heart, and that is enough to make a difference in this world.
Practically, this systems thinking approach empowers teens to navigate complexity, from growing up in the digital age, to the pressures of school or racial stress.
Sprints, polls, challenges, and chat functions enable students to connect with each other and find friendship and support so they can truly thrive.
Convenient tracking system and leaderboards help students see what they have accomplished and gain encouragement from their peers.
