Small update, big fix.
The application will not crash anymore when Instamic is running an old firmware.
Users are now alerted to upgrade their Instamic to get access to all the latest features.

See you at the next release,
The Instamic Team
1.2.2
2018-09-14
Here is the list of cool new features available on this release. We hope you like them as we do :-)

IMPORTANT: Make sure to upgrade your Instamic firmware to the latest version (1.2.21) before upgrading the Instamic Remote App 1.2.2.

TAKE NAMING (Settings Page)
Each takes you record will get the name from your Instamic's name. Tracking each recording got a lot easier, right?! :)
The new file format is NAME_000.wav (no special characters are allowed)

TAKE NUMBERING (Settings Page)
Do you want to start your next recording with your lucky number? Now you can.
You have 3 digits to choose from and your next take will start from there.

SLEEP MODE (Settings Page)
It reminds us of the old alarm clocks or TV sets but it gets very useful when you want to save your Instamic's battery life.
You can turn it off or choose a preset/custom time.

MANUAL LEDs CONTROL (Capture Page)
Several users ask to manually control the LEDs to check if Instamic was recording when the unit is not within reach.
Now you can keep the "Auto LEDs off" mode on (they turn off after 10 secs) or turn them on and off manually from the app.

LOCK BUTTON (Capture page)
When you are in control of your Instamic is the best scenario, but what if someone else is wearing or handling your Instamic?
To be on the safe side, you can now lock the recording button from the app so no-one can stop a recording or accidentally trigger the Instamic.
To unlock it from the device, hold the button for 6 secs, 3 LEDs will turn on and you are back in control of your Instamic even without the app.
p.s. also called e-lock from E-mma Wilson, one of our earliest beta testers, who asked for this feature ;-) We hope you like it Emma!

Looking forward to releasing the 1.2.3 :)

Instamic Remote 1.2.1 enables the Handsfree Profile option on your Instamic.
The HFP is a standard Bluetooth profile that turns your Instamic into an external wireless microphone.

HOW IT WORKS
On the SETTINGS PAGE, switch between "Recording Mode" (Instamic captures uncompressed .wav files onboard) and "Handsfree Profile Mode" (external microphone compatible with all apps that support the Bluetooth connectivity).

Every time you change profile, make sure to unpair and re-pair Instamic on your iOS Bluetooth settings. The iDevice must recognize Instamic as a new device.

Tatiana.Toruno,
Microphone was connecting
After updating the firmware in the instamic I was able to use the instamic again. I love this little microphone because is super convenient and it fits everywhere.
Reformat Planet,
The best mic I’ve ever used
I’ve probably used this mic more than anyone on Earth. I have over 30 of them now between all three generations of releases. I’ve seen bugs come and go; Michele and his team are always listening and always improving the hardware and software.

If you’re having trouble with the app you need to update your firmware. This is still the least user friendly part of the process, but I know it’s something they’ll continue to improve because they’re literally improved everything else.

The Pro Plus is a fantastic piece of hardware. The Instamic in general literally changed the way I work, unlocking recording potential I never dreamed was possible.

I sympathize with people who have issues, I myself have had instances of frustration. But considering how many units i’ve used, how many hours of recording time they’ve all logged, it’s like 0.001% in the grand scheme of things.

Every single piece of pro hardware/software i’ve ever used has had issues. In this case, I can trust Michele to do something about it. I can’t say that about many other products. Have patience, read the instructions, contact support.
West Coast Thrashin,
Great customer service
When I first upgraded, it was a disaster. However, a few emails to Instamic and they responded right away with a few instructions, now the mic is working great.

The stand alone mic is still the best way to use the Instamic in my opinion, but I have used it with FilmicPro successfully.

They’re working on another update to fix the issues caused by updating the app, but in my opinion these little mics are the best things out there.
anonkc810471,
Wish I had it in white
Edited: after some hassle everything works nicely
jpgeorge,
Good, but potential for much more
This app is good but definitely feels very beta. They greeted out button at the end is really pointless - I don’t understand why they have a button just to tell you that new features are “coming”. Please get rid of that. Also - an important function that is missing is the ability to listen to recorded files! You still have to connect the Instamic to a computer for that. I can also never quite get the monitoring to work even after pairing it with Bluetooth (you essentially have 2 Bluetooth connections to this device).
GUfilmmaker,
No point of this app existing
Upgraded the firmware, upgraded the app, rebooted my IOS phone… everything this developer said to do to all the others here complaining about the Instamic not connecting to the app because of the update is just ridiculous. People, get a rode wireless go or even a saramonic. I can’t support this product anymore. It’s just a mini recorder now where you have to guess if it’s actually recording the audio you need. If this is really the smartest Mic on Earth, I’d rather deal with the sub par rode and saramonic wireless mics with better app functionality.

It’s really sad, I loved this mic, until it couldn’t connect with the app anymore. I suppose my case is one in a million to work according to the developers response to another reviewer on here. Notice all these negative reviews are around the same timeframe. I thought an update was to improve things not ruin things.

On the other hand, the mic itself sounded good, but you’re going to have to second guess yourself when recording because the app should have been a solid companion. More headaches than functionality. Too good to be true I guess. One star for the mic itself and audio quality. Doesn’t work as advertised.
mdcalder,
Disappointing
I really liked what this product used to offer. With compact hardware that offered clear/high quality audio, I was willing to turn a blind eye to the rudimentary app functionally seen in previous versions.

I don’t know what happened with the latest iOS update but it completely trashed any capability of interfacing with the mic. I’ve been in contact with user support for the last month and have made zero progress despite every attempt to troubleshoot the problem. Uninstall, reinstall, download latest firmware update, restarting both the device and phone countless times. I’ve never written an app review before, but I’m so bothered by how much I paid for a mic that is now a glorified magnet. Hopefully instamic can do a complete overhaul of the app or at least make the device compatible with the native smart phone apps such as voice memo.
cjjjunior,
Tiny mic that packs a punch
This little microphone is amazing. The sound quality rivals my Rode shotgun mic at a fraction of the size. I can conceal the microphone on set and get crisp audio when my camera is far away from the talent. I also plan to use it for audio when doing drone videography.

The app does what it is supposed to do. I can adjust the settings and gain of the microphone, see the levels while recording, and start and stop recording. That’s all I need from the app. I have not had any app crashes on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I am very satisfied with the Instamic and the app.
PhotoCraft76,
Work in progress with great potential.
Instantly crashes on iPhone X when you try and connect the mic.

UPDATE: The reason it crashes is because the Instamic needs a firmware update to work with the latest app. This is easy but it was not clear. When I complained about the problem I. Instamics Facebook page they were very responsive and are also going to implement a pop up in the app to let us know when a firmware update is needed. They are working hard to make the experience better.
Jdsimpson21,
I got it to work
Make sure you update the firmware. If you can’t get it on your own contact customer support. Now that it’s all working I am very happy with the mic. The sound quality on the upper end frequencies is the only issue I have at the moment. You can adjust them in post production though. There is really nothing else out there quite like this mic. It’s really nice when you need it.
