Protoman100,
Fantastic Panic Button Feature
As a coach who works with neurodivergent communities, I’m always researching for assistive tech tools. One of the more challenging areas within job search is the interview. Many stumble due to anxiety. This app is the perfect practice tool for these communication situations. The panic button immediately brings you to a series of responses that you can choose from to best fit what you want to convey. Under audio resources, click on music to unwind to after a long day. I especially love the tools sections, which focus on continuous and revised self-reflecting on strengths and weakness. What really made this app four stars is the ability to jot down your past interview history in a super handy app. Which is super crucial for individuals struggling with executive functioning skills. Everything in one awesome app.
k8gladst1,
An excellent app!
This app is excellent! Most apps that are sold as guides to doing well on job interviews are little more than illustrated booklets of tips to practice answering common questions (perhaps with a few remarks on making sure that your suit is clean and pressed, your arrive on time, and so on). This app, though, covers much more ground, and will help the users do many more things, than any interview-guidance app I have ever seen for ANYONE (with or without autism). For example, the app is divided into several sections, and the first one alone (titled “Tools”) itself consists of seven interview-preparation tools which meet needs that are decidedly often unmet: with content ranging from a multiple choice quiz to test one’s knowledge of employees rights and responsibilities (under UK law, so some of this would have to be revised for other countries), to TWO sections on “Strengths and Weaknesses” (one is an instructional guide to common strengths and weaknesses of autistic people; the other walks one through creating a personal profile of one’s own specific strengths and weaknesses), to a “Concerns” section (an extremely thorough guide to avoiding common pitfalls in interviews AND to avoiding autism-specific pitfalls; this itself is divided into seven subsections, beginning with a section on whether to disclose that one is autistic, and what considerations may be involved in deciding one way or another),To a section on tips for interviewers (because it is not only interviewees that has to be prepared to make sure and interview goes smoothly and productively: this is deadly and triply true for anyone on the autism spectrum), to a set of video resources (five sympathetically written videosOf further tips, help, and encouraging), two audio resources is (which I assumed would be a sound-only version of the video resources, but with which turned out to be five soundtracks of relaxing music/nature-sounds/encouraging spoken messages, to help one relax and concentrate and feel more confident while preparing for the interview and/or while on one’s way to the interview. These are so soothing – WITHOUT ever crossing the line into cloyingly over-sweetened sugariness or hip-hooray forced cheeriness, as too much motivational/relaxation music — that I am actually listening to these soundtracks as I write this!) And all that is just in the FIRST section of this four-section app! It’s well worth twice the price! I should note here a particular plus: the app was created by an successful businessman, owning and operating several enterprises designed to help neurodivergent adults with a wide variety of conditions including autism — and with a commitment to enabling them to increase their prospects of successful and productive employment — so he asked actual autistic adults to help him research this app during its development, so that he could base the app on experience, not from ungrounded theories about “what those people who have autism might need.” One final note: Since the app is produced in the UK, and therefore has some UK-specific material (about employment laws, for instance), I hope that the app designer will be producing versions for other countries, too (for example, a USA version app would have to change the section on employment law, and some of the spellings, but not much else.)There are many autism organizations around the world that, I think, would gladly fund further development of the app, and I would strongly recommend that the app designer should reach out to them.
