Description

David Gardner and The Motley Fool proudly present INVESTOR ISLAND, the first board game that's driven by the real-life ups and downs of the stock market!

Whether you’re a seasoned stock jock or you’ve never even thought about the market, Investor Island offers many ways to best your opponents. Maneuver to control the game board’s most valuable tiles. Pick the best-performing stocks. Or just blast away with fireballs and lightning bolts.

Battle friends or the computer as you derive your power from gains and losses by actual publicly traded companies – Amazon, Nike, Facebook, Rite Aid, and many, many more. If your stocks perform well, you'll please the mighty Stock Gods and earn gems to expand your influence, purchase spells, and battle your foes.

Collect hot stocks and build your portfolio as you climb the leaderboard to become an Investor Island legend.

Then choose your stocks wisely – power is bestowed upon those who select the biggest winners … and punishes those who anger the Stock Gods, earning their unpredictable and devastating wrath.

CLASSIC BOARD GAME STRATEGY: Challenge opponents on multiple game boards as you race to build your statues, control access to treasure chests, monopolize scoring tiles, and cut your rival off from their support.

BUILD A MASSIVE PORTFOLIO: Earn Fool’s Gold to grow your collection of stocks, giving you more choices as the market changes, and level up your stocks to assign them greater powers. Manage your portfolio to dominate in any situation!

BATTLE BASED ON HISTORY: Hone your skills by battling an opponent or the computer in a turn-based game based on a real-life stock market returns from a year in history. Your power is fueled by the historical performance of the stocks in your collection.

REAL-TIME PVP: For the first time ever, a mobile app game that changes in real time based on the moment-to-moment actions of the stock market. Battle friends from all over the world in a strategy challenge that's based on the movements of the market, not just a roll of the dice. More than just a fantasy stock investing game, Investor Island mixes board game strategy with tower defense tactics and tycoon investing game elements.

MULTIPLAYER OR SOLITARY MODES: Play versus the AI or challenge your friends in head-to-head or multiplayer action.

FOR GAMERS AND INVESTORS ALIKE: No previous knowledge of the stock market is needed, but it can be helpful. It will take both game strategy and investment strategy to climb the leaderboard!

And everyone might just learn a little about the power of investing in the stock market.

It’s free to download and play this game. It includes an in-game virtual currency called Fool’s Gold, which can be acquired as you progress through the game or by paying with real money. Purchases of Fool’s Gold using real money are performed using a credit card, or other form of payment associated with your account. You won’t be asked to re-enter your credit card number or PIN. Once your iTunes account password is entered, your account will allow in-app purchases for 15 minutes. To restrict or disable in-app purchases, change the settings on your device.

The game requires the player to connect to the Internet.

Summer is heating up on Investor Island, so we have some cool new changes in store for you.

Skull Tiles: Perhaps you saw them in our last special event, now they've spread across the island! Build a statue on one of these new special tiles to generate 2-4 skulls per turn, making it easier to devastate your opponent via Stock God tributes. Combine these with the Skull-tivator and Cult of the Stock Gods perks, and render your hapless enemy into a whimpering pile of regret! Skull tiles are now a permanent addition to all Duel game boards.

New Board: Stock Hoptions - Face off on this brand new duel board, the largest one on the island, featuring tons of perks, skull tiles, as well as lots of tiny "islands" which require strategic use of the Jump spell.

Revive Spell Modifications - Additionally, we've made significant changes to the Revive spell to reduce its effectiveness as an offensive weapon. Revive will now trigger DURING combat instead of AFTER. Here is the specific order of combat:
1) Offensive statues attack target
2) Defensive statues retaliate
3) Revive spells activate on any applicable statues
4) Repeat sequence until either original target or all attacking statues have been destroyed.
This will prevent players from the ol' "attack a temple, revive/heal all your statues, and reapply revives" for an easy knockout.

Bug Fixes
- Fix bug where you couldn't de-select spells
- Resolved an issue where the "challenge a friend" quest was only being awarded if you defeated the player. Now, you'll get the quest reward even if you lose.
- Fixed a bug where "most played stocks" were being incorrectly reported on player profile screens

New - Trial of the Gods
Play our exciting new set of custom scenarios which features all three stock gods on a single board! Can you make it all the way through and win awesome rewards including another exclusive avatar?

Skull Tiles
This month's Trial includes a new type of tile that allows you to collect additional skulls from the board. In a future release, we will begin adding these tiles to regular Duel boards.
Enhancements and Balancing changes

Other Enhancements:
- Perk Tiles have been added to live boards to give you even more reason to wake up at 4AM to make a move.
- Some of the special tiles on Hedge Maze have been tweaked/moved to allow for a wider variety of gameplay strategies.
- Release notes will now appear in the News section.

Bug Fixes:
- Fixed an issue in Live matches where players could swap out a statue that was under attack.
- Finishing the Trials of the Gods with every single curse no longer freezes the game.
- Robot opponents will no longer collect more than 10 skulls before tributing.
- Resolved a bug where some players' ratings were getting reset if using multiple devices.
- Added some measures to prevent Live matches from occasionally getting out of sync.

It's a new season on Investor Island, and along with it, there are some exciting new additions!

Trials of the Gods
Are you brave and clever enough to survive the Trials of the Gods? These solo-mode, limited-duration events are a series of custom scenarios on brand new game boards. Defeat your robot opponent in all of the scenarios to win extra special lootboxes filled with a variety of game goodies, including epic stock cards.

Trials of the Gods - Escalation Mode Curses
If a single Trial isn't challenging enough, you can choose to replay the event, suffering an in-game curse from the gods (which stack) each time you replay. The more you replay and win, the higher up the leaderboard you'll climb, earning you more valuable rewards (such as exclusive avatars!) and possibly getting you that key promotion at work!

Enhancements

Even though most of us want to forget its existence, 2020 is now a playable year in historical duels.

Game Balancing
-We reduced the likelihood for receiving bonus spells from multiple stacks of the Spell Scavenger perk.
-To reduce exploiting, we lowered the rewards received from challenging a friend.

Bug Fixes
-Fixed instance where players could not start new matches because of uncollected rewards.
-Fixed an issue where a player "suiciding themselves" (i.e. attacking those 9 surrounding max-health, uber-buffed enemy statues with your final temple) caused the game to freeze.
-Fixed a bug with treasure chests when a player has selected no spells (which you shouldn't do anyway!).
-Removed a bug in tutorials where game would zoom to the wrong cell and leave the confused player in disarray, causing them to throw their phone into the toilet.

Hello!

We've added several fixes in addition to the update below.

New Feature - Spell Points
No longer are you constrained with only 5 spell slots! You will now spend "spell points" when picking your initial spells, allowing for a wider variety of possibilities. Finally, you can swap that Max-Healthed, Battle-Upped, Trapped, Watchtowered, Revived statue!

Spell cap - To prevent hoarding, you may only now have 5 of any single spell type. Any additional spells from chests will be lost until you get below the spell cap.

Gem/Skull counts - When picking stocks for a Duel, you can see how many gems and skulls that stock will produce for the year. (Note: if we could do this for Live, we'd probably be investing in real stocks a lot more and playing this game a lot less.)

Fireball damage has been reduced to 40-60 damage.

Perks! We made the following changes:
Nerfs:
- Death Benefit (from +3,+2 to +3,+1)
- Master Builder (from -2,-1 to -1,-1)
Buffs:
- Temple Fortitude (from +1000 single temple to +1000 health all temples)
- Killer Temples (from +100,+75 single temple to +50,+50 attack all temples)
- Healthy Returns (from - +20/+10 per duel/live interval to +40/+20)

We've added a quest button to stock and spell picker screens, so you don't have to buy a new phone to look at them simultaneously.

Incendra's scorched tiles now disappear on the turn of the player who generated them instead of at the end of player 2 for both players.

Player rating increases/decreases have been changed for live games. Ratings will now change at a fixed amount (ignoring opponent's ratings) depending on your final place.

Fixed a bug where players could forfeit without picking stocks and still receive rewards.

News items are no longer limited to just stocks and can now be used for information/updates regarding the game.

We now have an in-game graphics settings to help adjust battery life and performance

Enjoy!

Greetings, stir crazy, socially distant residents of Investor Island! Along with some small fixes, our latest update includes the following:
Quests (coming in one week!)

At the end of our current season, on September 26, we will launch Season 2 with Quests!

Accessible on the main screen, we have 50+ quests that reward you for accomplishing certain objectives such as:
* Destroy 100 enemy statues
* Tribute 20 skulls
* Win a game without Jump
* Build 50 statues while driving (update: our lawyers are making us remove this one)

Friendly Stock God Tributes
We know the frustration of feeding 10 skulls to a hungry stock god, only to have it ravage your own statues like a drunken tourist on Easter Island.

So, from now on:
* All tributes to the Stock Gods avoid your statues/temples (if at all possible).
* Ultimate attacks occur more frequently and are more powerful and balanced
* Non-ultimate attacks have been reduced in effectiveness
* The Cult of the Stock God now increases the likelihood of triggering the ultimate by 3% for every skull tributed

Balancing Updates
* Jester Bot was winning too frequently, so we've told it to stop trying as hard. C'mon, Jester Bot, know your place in the world!

Enchancements
* Incendra's meteor attack will no longer hit the same square twice and her animation will now "cascade" across the board for a more visually pleasant firestorm of devastation and sorrow
* Toxo's poison damage has been reduced slightly
* Skip replay - You can touch "skip" and bypass watching your opponent's never-ending turn of 32 Swaps and Battle Ups
* Temple shields now last until Day 2 market open of Live matches

Bug fixes
* Deleting out-of-date tournaments will no longer affect player ratings
* Level 5 temple damages stats were listed incorrectly and have now been fixed.
* Healthy Returns perk should now work in live matches.

We've added a number of small fixes to our last big release, which included:

New Perks!

We’ve added three new perks to enhance your temples.

Skulltivator - Each of your temples generates an extra skull (along with its usual gems/skulls). You’ll be feeding those Stock Gods like pigeons in the park!

Cult of the Stock God - Greatly increases the chance that Stock God attacks (triggered by you) will hit your opponents. Your opponents will want to hotkey the cry emote.

Healthy Returns - All of your statues and temples regenerate health at the end of each turn.

New Game Boards!

Splitsville (unlocks at 450XP) - Face off on this large, two-temple game board that presents some interesting tactical choices and temples that are place in more defensive positions.

Pyramid Scheme (unlocks at 5500XP)- Good luck destroying your opponents three temples, as they’re all tightly packed together in a triangle formation. Should you be aggressive or try to rack up points?

Enhancements:

Improved robot intelligence

We sent our robots to Statue College and they came back with a degree in Kicking ***. Hopefully you will no longer say, “Did a nine-year-old build this AI as a craft project?”

When starting a bot match, you can now choose from one of four difficulties ranging from “Easy” to “I’m Going to Delete This Game.”

The old Motley Fool logo (lovingly nicknamed “Elvis”) has left the building. It has been replaced with our brand new spiffy logo!

Breaking News Alerts - You’ll receive news articles whenever a stock in your collection has a big day (up or down 10+%).

Players can now view information about game tiles when it’s not their turn.

Toxo was starting to get a big ego, so we toned down his poison attack just a bit. Also, it triggers at the end of each player’s turn (for that player’s statues) instead of at the end of each round.

On the other hand, Tremelon’s Earthquake attack received a small buff, inflicting more damage on statues 2 squares away from his epicenter.

We made tweaks to some game boards to give players more interesting choices and prevent an overly powerful or predictable opening.

There are lots of little UI improvements and polish that you might not immediately notice, but they will subconsciously fill you with a sense of unparalleled mirth.

Balancing changes:

First stack of Death Benefit perk gives out 3 gems per each destroyed statue (down from 4). Additional stacks still remain at 2 gems.

All temples’ health have been increased by 50%. This will hopefully prevent some players from losing a temple before they even started a match.

The trophy goal on Sand Dollar was reduced to 50 trophies (down from 60)

Temple shields now last until the market opens on the following day. This prevents players from pulling over the side of the road while driving home.

Coming soon - Seasons!

Our last big note is that we will soon be launching season-based gameplay in which players in the upper echelons of the leaderboard will be reset down to a fixed rating. Each season players will vie to be the ultimate Grand Fool of Investor Island, earning rewards upon reaching each new Ranking Tier. More details soon!

Bug Fixes:

Astoundingly, our game had exactly 0 bugs over the last two months*!

*Our lawyers told us to say that this is a complete lie. In actuality, we did fix a lot of bugs here and there, so please keep reporting them via the “Report Issue” button. Thanks!

As you level up stocks, you’ll be able to enhance them with perk upgrades, each of which bestows a special in-game ability. With all the different possible combinations, we expect perks to add even more variety and strategy into the game! Want a few more gems? There’s a perk for that! Want more resilient temples? There’s a perk for that! Perks are awarded when a stock reaches levels 4, 7, and 10. Stocks in your collection that are already level 4 or above will be given free perks.

Balancing changes:

Economy

To reduce the massive turns we’re seeing in the game (especially early), we’ve made the following changes:

In the meta-game, temples will no longer increase gem production as they level up.

Temple gems will be worth a flat 5/10/15/20 depending on the investment levels in-game. This is roughly half the amount of what they previously generated.

Guaranteed “beginning of turn” gems have been slightly increased

Tiki Gods

Incendra was feeling a bit sad, so we’ve given her Meteor attack twice as many meteors, making it much meatier.

Toxo’s Poison attack targets squares rather than statues. This poison will damage newly built statues as well as harm existing ones.

Toxo’s Ground Spike attack also targets squares, as above.

Tremulon’s Earthquake attack no longer damages all statues on the board. Instead, he leaps from his home and crushes the life out of a single hapless statue, inflicting splash damage on all nearby statues who witnessed the gruesome event.

Jump Spell - Since everyone seemed to be hopping all over the place like Kermit on steroids, it now costs an extra 10 gems to build a statue using this spell.

Enhancements:

We improved the matchmaking system. Matches should hopefully happen quicker and more equitably. Some players will actually now get matched with an opponent instead of being sent into the the infinite hell of “Awaiting opponent…” limbo.

Stock upgrade sequence is more dazzling, intuitive, and possibly life-changing.

We hired some minions to painstakingly chisel the board names into the sides of the play areas. It looks pretty darn epic.

Added numerous graphical and audio improvements that are nice but probably not life-changing.

On the in-game stock pick screen, when paying to bring a stock off cooldown, you can now directly add it to a match from that screen.

Certain animations have been sped up. You will no longer be able to run to the bathroom while waiting for that loot box to open.

Improved temple targeting logic for retaliation attacks, resulting in a 50% reduction in players yelling at the game.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug where Incendra’s attack would crash the game if there weren’t enough targets.

Fixed a bug where a statue that Revived would also reveal a hidden Trap spell

Fixed the situation where stock logos remained hidden in live games if all players didn’t join.

Fixed an issue where delisted stocks were incorrectly appearing as suggested stocks in duels.

Gem/Skulls “collect me” bubbles were sometimes lingering after they were collected. Well, not anymore!

Joining a match as Player 2 will no longer show a Turn 0 screen with a silhouetted player.

Good Luck!

Esteemed denizens of Investor Island! Here’s what’s new in our latest update to the game!

2019 Stock Data
* You can now play historical duels with stock returns from this past year. Relive some of the greatest moments from the past year (like that nine-day period where Rite Aid’s price tripled! Rite Aid!).

New Game Boards
* Hostile Takeover - This exciting 1- vs 3-temple matchup has returned to Investor Island with some rebalancing changes to give the 1-temple player an increased chance of winning.
* Fool’s Gold - This new 4-player board has been added to the Live match rotation. Can you hold your home corner while protecting your isolated third temple?

Social Distancing
* All statues must be placed 5 squares from any other statues (not really).

Game Improvements/Changes
* Tiki Gods
- The area of effect damage from Tremulon’s earthquake has been significantly reduced.
- Incendra’s meteor attack is now more potent, damaging the board with 3 meteors per skull (up from 1). Additionally, meteors are less likely to hit empty spaces, inflicting more pain on the hapless mortals.

Gameplay
* The triangular “poor network connectivity” icon is now smaller and much less “Hey, look at me, I’m going to annoy you incessantly and prevent you from enjoying your game.”
* In the starting screens for duels, the stocks of your opponent are now hidden until both players have joined.
* In single-player matches (especially against lower-level players), robot players are less likely to pick the best-performing stocks for a given year.
* Added a message to players who are about to resign that their rewards might be less if the game is still very early.

Bug Fixes
* Added sound effects to investment token collection
* Fixed an issue where the leaderboard was going from 99 back to 1 and repeating. Ranks should now all display correctly. So for those of you who thought you were #1 even though you were below thousands of players, well... we’re sorry.
* Fixed an exploit where players were able to delete a losing match before collecting rewards in order to prevent a loss in Player Ranking (you sly dogs, you!).
* Game will no longer match two players with the same device ID.
* In live matches where a stock becomes delisted mid-game, the game will now just lock in remaining returns at the last-traded price instead of crashing, ruining the game, and causing your phone melt in your hands (Thanks a lot, Celgene!).

Fixes for daily savings in addition to previous major release which contains:

Game Improvements/Changes:

Spell Rebalancing - several spells were changed:
* All damage spells (Fireball, Lightning, and Chain Lightning) will now only inflict half damage against opposing temples. We felt it was too easy to knock out a temple with only a single statue, so now you’ll need twice as many spells.
* Mass Heal now replenishes 100 health (previously 60 health) for all affected statues.
* Max Health increased to +125 health (previously +100 health).
* Chain Lightning now does 20-40 damage on the third hit (previously 65-75 damage)
* The frequency of receiving jump spells from treasure chests has been reduced.

Game Matchmaking - players will now be matched FIRST by player level and then by player rating.

Bug Fixes:
* Fixed an issue that caused error when switching games.
* Fixed an issue where leaderboard rankings were not sorting correctly.
* Optimized network connection testing and handling.
* Fixed a bug where building on a destroyed temple was generating gems for that player
* Fixed a minor display bug where the Continue button wasn’t flashing after collecting a chest.
* Online presence indicator should now be more reliable on the Player Leaderboard.
* Resolved an issue where some players were having difficulty changing their player names.
* Fixed a display issue where playback animations were happening before the game camera moved to the right position.
* Board damage text will now display in the correct position over a 2x2 area.

BretterThanMost,
Been playing for a isle...
I’ve been playing since this app came out and it has provided me with dozens of hours of splendid entertainment, excellent competition, glorious victory, deep-felt heartache, and minor bouts of anxiety. Not going to lie, I’ve lost sleep over the “Live” gameplay on concern that my towers and bases would be raided overnight... but I digress... the concept of the game is a great mix between strategy and luck from the whims of the stock market. What you get from the gameplay entirely depends on your mentality.

Gameplay Tip: If you find yourself regularly lagging the competition, try “mimicking” your opponents as you play through games to get the hang of it.
Ruben A.A.12,
Fix this and perfection
This game can be like a chess match one minute and shoots and ladders the next. The developers were super original with the concept but there is one thing that needs to be fixed. The 2 day cool down after using a stock in battle should be limited to 1 day. Otherwise I play a few rounds and I’ve used almost all of my stocks and have to wait a while to use them again. Please fix this so we all can play more often.
disappointing bummer,
Robot always more powerful than you
I spent a few days addicted to this game. Researching the best stocks to play for each level based on how they did during the year that was set, earning points, leveling up, trying different strategies, etc. However, the game is FAR too hard. The robot gets way more moves than you every round so it is not an even match. They also win the “advancing time” race 9 times out of 10 so you don’t get enough spells, you never have enough cards to upgrade and that parts extremely confusing anyway. The most frustrating part is how many more gems the robot has than you to make way more moves AND cuts through your pawns and destroy your temples like butter. I usually like a “Hard” setting so its challenging, but this is absurd.
nrgaddict,
Missing
Extremely fun & absolutely love this game. It’s early on and needs a few installments. Truly addictive game play. I will update rating & review in coming months. A connection like Facebook or something to play with friends would be nice. The friends of my phone book meh. Better to see who else is playing. I still get matched up with some people that haven’t played in days and days. Waited almost 3 days for players to join matches. I took the Loss by forfeiting unfortunately. Started new matches and was paired up just fine. Great game overall
💩💩💩💩That's what this is,
Very fun
I have been playing and haven’t put it down for almost 4 hours. The only reason I’m stopping is because my phone battery is about to die. As someone who just started investing 3 years ago it’s fun to see how stocks performed years before I was paying attention. Very fun and addicting game. I love all the podcasts as well!
Mrshihtzu11,
Just okay
The game's premise is fun, but there are a couple things I don't care for.

1. Because of the way gems are generated, going first provides a huge advantage in head-to-head play. The vast majority of games I've played are won by the player that goes first.

2. The reward system is out of whack. You can lose more ratings point when you lose a game than you can gain when you win. Wins need to be more valuable. Otherwise, there's less incentive to play.

3. I deleted the game. I don't like that I lose more ratings points when I lose than I gain when I win. Plus, that result seems to have nothing to do with actual game play or how long a game takes. Second, on two or three occasions my turn was skipped in head-to-head play. No idea why. I admit I don't really play games like this all that often. I decided not playing makes more sense than playing and being frustrated by it.
Disappointed1234545454,
Font size too small
I have 20/15 vision, don’t wear glasses, and I finally had to give up on this. Hopefully you can play this game on a desktop (and I am happy to try that) but not on my little iPhone. There’s no setting to make the font bigger. The developers thought to allow colorblind settings but no way to make the font bigger. If you can read everything without straining your eyes congratulations because it looks like it could be a fun game, but I had to give up.
Aidman. R,
Great for learning and having fun!
I just downloaded this game yesterday, and I have to say, it’s a great way to learn about investing and have fun simultaneously! I enjoy battling various companies in hopes of watching them annihilate (great feature)! What I’d like to see, however, is an option to choose a map, rather than have the game choose randomly (unless the option is hidden somewhere). Otherwise, outstanding game!
starforever7980,
Great Game!
Very fun and addictive to play. You need some strategic thinking to win, which is the kind of game I really enjoy. Also as a side effect you get to learn something about the stock market.

One feature I hope developer can add is the ability to pause the game while watching a replay.
Not for those in medical fields as is way to simplistic,
Fabulously intelligent game, a blend of stocks and chess
I am 39 and an active long-term investor. I listen to Motley Fool podcast on a daily basis on my commute, which is where I first heard about this game. I had so much fun that I got my seven-year-old son playing as well! He is learning about investing in stocks through this game and I couldn’t be more ecstatic!
