Description
In recent years reconstructive microsurgery is fast expanding not only into new territories but is also stretching its limits further in the traditional microsurgery fields of replantations, revascularisations and free tissue transfer for post traumatic and post excisional composite tissue defects. Successful hand transplantations done by our colleagues at Kochi and Chennai has ignited interest in composite tissue transplantation amongst Indian microvascular surgeons and we are looking forward to other centres taking up this challenging task. Management of Lymphoedema with the use of microsurgery is another exciting field for the microvascular surgeons and some centres in India have already started doing it. Post Mastectomy Breast Reconstruction has been a rarity in our country but with increasing awareness amongst patients, microsurgical breast reconstruction is picking up in a big way.
