Description

Welcome to the JTLanguage mobile application, a free app for learning and teaching languages.

This is a companion to the JTLanguage website, allowing you to do most of the same things you can do on the website, but either offline or online.

JTLanguage is a place you can come to learn or to teach any language supported on a computer or phone. By "cooperative", I mean that all the learning content is provided by users who would like to help to teach a language. I provide the technology in the form of this app and the JTLanguage website, but I depend upon the generosity of users like yourself who are or want to be language teachers to sign up and create lessons, whether it be to supplement your teaching of a specific group of students, or to provide a public service to anyone in general.

JTLanguage can help you teach or learn languages in two main ways, first, as a content organizer/browser and second, as a collection of study tools.

1.1.6
2019-09-07
- Revised the difference display in the flash and test tools to allow for more lenient matching based on the language. In particular, Japanese Romaji comparisons can take the long vowel notations or expanded vowels, and the particles with the funky conversion can match the literal or usual conversions, i.e. "wo" or "o". Chinese pinyin can be numeric or tone-marked (this was already supported), but it's still kind of dumb with respect to spaces between syllables.
- Fixed the "Tool Study List" page to work properly when the "Vocabulary List" source is used, and the study list is a study list hierarchy.
1.1.5
2019-08-09
- Finally fixed the iPad display, where the app only used a phone-size rectangle in the middle of the screen.
- Revised the layout sizes to better accomodate different screen sizes.
- Fixed some problems and did some polishing on the "Install Course", "Update Course", and "Download Media" mechanisms in the phone app version.
- Fixed various problems with the "Dictionary Download", "Dictionary Media Download", "Delete Dictionary", and "Delete Dictionary Media" mechanisms.
- Modified the "Descramble" configuration of the study tools to show the difference view.
1.1.4
2019-08-05
New Features:

- Added "Parse Best" and "Parse All" options to the dictionary search page. These options will break up a sentence into individual words and display their definitions. "Parse Best" attempts to find the best word boundaries and only display those words. "Parse All" will use all possible word boundaries and display those definitions. For Japanese only at present, added support for looking up conjugated verbs and adjectives and displaying what kind of conjugation it is, as well as an attempt at the conjugated meaning.
- Added sentence and word boundary edit options in text study list editor. Use this to fix sentence and word boundary problems.
- Added "Show/Hide word borders" option to Text Study tool. Use this to make word boundaries more obvious for languages that don't use spaces between words.

Bug fixes:

- A lot of fixes to Japanese word boundary detection, Romanizer, and dictionary support.
- Some fixes for the Chinese Romanizer.
- Fixed mobile installer to include course, group, and lesson icon images, even if the "Include media" option is off.
- Fixed to allow relative "../" path components in the course, group, and lesson icon image files so that these files can be shared.
1.1.3
2019-03-30
- Fixed the Romanizer to preserve zero-width spaces so word run parsing will work.
- Flip tool fixed to honor study mode.
- Flip tool fixed to use word layout when the tool source is a vocabulary list.
1.1.2
2019-03-23
- Added an internal verb conjugation and adjective inflection mechanism for Japanese.
- Revised the Romanization and transliteration converters to fix a number of problems with the Japanese Kana and Romaji conversions, making use of the inflection mechanism.
- Improved the word detection in Japanese. This will help the text study tool.
- Revised the dictonary mechanism to look up words in sentences. However, it's very slow and still a bit broken, and only works for Japanese. I presently only have dictionaries for Japanese and Chinese.
- Improved the vocabulary download option when installing courses on the mobile apps. This is still really slow, so you probably want to uncheck this option in general when installing courses on mobile devices, unless you really need to use the text study tool offline.

2018-02-15
- Added a new drop-down menu to the main menu, "Resources", for collecting additional language study resource features, like a language dictionary.
- Added a dictionary mechanism. This is a full-featured searchable language dictionary with support for audio and pictures. However, as its content is cooperatively provided, there is currently limited content. Currently present are dictionaries for Chinese Mandarin (from a library database called CC-CEDICT from a few years ago), Japanese (EDICT also from a few years ago), and English (reciprocal entries from both CC-CEDICT and EDICT). Teachers can add, edit, import, export, and delete dictionary entries. Teachers can also copy study list items to a dictionary. Students can add dictionary study items to a plan.
- Revised the comment mechanism in the mobile version to post comments created using the mobile app on the web server. You can only add or edit comments if the mobile device is online. You can view existing comments offline.
- Fixed the page heading dynamic layout to omit the middle configuration and to switch to the mobile display at a larger size, so the menu won't wrap.
- Changed the study list display to only show conjugation and lexical category on the host language items, as it was looking too busy when these items were present.
- Added a “Force media update” option to course update, to overwrite existing media, in case it changed.
- Revised some button images, such as making the media buttons in the flash tool bigger, primarily to give users a bigger target to hit on mobile devices.
