Description

From Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes comes BELGRAVIA, the captivating story of a secret that unravels behind the doors of Victorian London’s grandest postcode. Revealed in serialised instalments with twists and turns and cliff-hanger endings, episodes are delivered directly to your device each week. You can read each episode, or listen to the audio narrated by Juliet Stevenson, or switch between the two. Download now to read or listen to Episode 1 for free.

The BELGRAVIA app includes exclusive features: a family tree that grows as you progress through the story and a map of the streets of 1840s Belgravia where you can see inside the sumptuous homes of our characters. Meet the social-climbing Trenchards who’ve made their money in trade and the Brockenhursts, a family from the highest echelons of Britain’s aristocracy, and discover the ties which bind them.

In every episode the bonus features are signalled in subtle blue text – videos, photos, illustrations, music and historical insight into this great time of change. Sections of text can be highlighted and favourited to be shared with friends and family. Purchased episodes include both the chapter text and audio edition read by award-winning actor Juliet Stevenson.

The app includes the text and audio editions of Episode 1: Dancing Into Battle where, on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo, the Duchess of Richmond threw a magnificent ball in Brussels for the Duke of Wellington. Just after midnight, word came that Napoleon had unexpectedly crossed the border and Wellington and his troops were called immediately to prepare for war. Many of the officers died on the battlefield, still in the dress uniforms they had worn to the ball.

At the ball are James and Anne Trenchard and their beautiful daughter Sophia, who has caught the eye of Edmund Bellasis, the son and heir of the Brockenhurst dynasty. Something takes place that has a seismic effect on all their lives and twenty-five years later, when the two families are settled in the newly-developed Belgravia, the consequences of this terrible secret still resonate. Behind the doors of these magnificent new houses lies a web of gossip and intrigue.

Gkacij,
Awful, simply awful
UPDATED REVIEW AFTER DELETING AND REINSTALLING APP: Same login as website now works. New chapters have downloaded. Everything seems to work. To get to login, you first have to click through on episodes and then it will prompt you to login. I still don't like that I can't seem to find an easier way to flip thru a chapter other than a page at a time. Also, the audio player works on the app, which I couldn't get to work thru the website. Pretty good story and I like to listen in the car after I've read the chapter!
BEFORE DELETING APP: Same problems as everybody else. App won't open properly after update. Chapters aren't loading. Unfortunately the website isn't much better. Too bad, it's a pretty good story and cool concept.

Love/Hate
Love the story and bonus features, but the app doesn't work right. When listening in the audible format, it takes you back to where you started when you have to pause it. And the there is no way to fast-forward it except in 15-second increments. That is way too slow when you have been listening for even a half-hour, and then have to fast-forward to where you left off. If you've been listening longer, it's even worse.
Nagisu,
Great story, and the app is much better
This app changed for the better. It had a lot of problems when it first appeared but they seem to have fixed them all. Great story, solid app.
Ninneyc,
Completely frustrating
Love the story. It's amazing. But the app is awful. Every time I sign in to continue reading after this last update, my place is lost and randomly put in to the middle of the first episode. It's frustrating to scroll through and try to find my place every time I want to continue reading.
Lucy3d,
Love the idea
Every time I return to reading the book the app brings me back to the very 1st page of the book. There is no way to move forward through the section except 1 page at a time.
Jessdew,
Has potential
I like all the features this app has but it won't let me purchase the next episode. I can't get past episode 1.
Joodypoody,
App doesn't work well
I'm enjoying the storyline, when I can get to it! The episodes take a long time to download, there is no bookmark function, and the pages are very "sticky" -- almost impossible to turn. So if I leave an episode in the middle, when I come back, I have to spend minutes trying to turn the very difficult pages to wherever I left off. The app doesn't seem to hold a history of where you last were. Very primitive compared to most e-books.
Too bad because the story is fun, the concept is great, and the digital features fascinating.
Lisanthony,
Love the story, annoyed with app
The app has been updated a few times, so I won't recall past problems. My current issue is with the links to additional information within the story - they aren't working for me. Only once have I been able to click on and see the photo and short note. Also, "Bonus Features" only shows me the content from Episode 1, none of the other chapters. So far, the most recent version of the app has been keeping me logged in and finding my place in the text. I just wish all aspects would be functioning properly so I can fully enjoy it!
Talking Points,
App no longer works after update
Great story, but the app is no longer working on my iPad. The home screen comes up and there is no way to navigate anywhere else. Impossible to see first chapter and no way to buy the series. Please fix before you lose all of your readers and potential customers! Update: deleted the app and reloaded it. Now it is working again. Still slow to turn pages and it is easy to accidentally highlight a section on the page and then it locks up until you de-highlight it. My mother in law can't use it because it is too slow and she keeps trying to turn the page and it gets too far ahead. Needs book mark option.
tmg in pdx,
App not worthy of a download
First, I've waited several weeks to write of my disappointments with this app, hoping that the app writer would have cleaned up the bugs by now.

Certain things don't work (such as the videos for a couple of chapter two bonus features).

Certain features are completely missing, such as being able to use the scroll bar when listening to the audio. There appears to be a scroll bar, but it is just a tease: it's not really there....you can see how many minutes you are in to the audio, and how many minutes are left, but you can only advance or rewind in 15 second increments.

However, the most annoying feature of this app is that it is constantly requiring that you log in and there is no way to save one's log in credentials on the app. (I also have Belgravia booked marked in Safari, and my log-in credentials auto-fill). For this last reason, I am deleting the app and will be using the Safari website to listen to the story in the future.
