Description
Kartasto is map browser that talks directly with map APIs. You can connect to Tile Map, WMTS and WMS services and browse their contents.
The app is preconfigured with tens of maps from open APIs, including topographic, satellite imagery and nautical maps from different providers.
Draw new layers using PencilKit and share the drawings as GeoDrawing files with other. Add layers on the base map and configure new layers from tile or WFS sources. Shapefile and GeoJSON files can also be imported as layers.
Display workout saved in Health app on any map. Copy workouts to GPX files with full elevation, speed and heart rate data.
Measure distances and calculate areas enclosed by multiple map points. Create tracks that follow roads between coordinates.
The map widget shows a map around your current position and updates in the background.
Kartasto also works wonderfully on Mac and Apple Watch. Future versions will add more exciting features.

- Import your hunting club area to Kartasto from Oma Riista service using its area code. Oma Riista API requires authenticating of users, so sign in with your Apple ID before importing areas. Importing from Oma Riista is available to Kartasto Pro users.

- New feature that allows sharing own location with groups. Create new groups and invite others by sending them a link. When group is enabled, your location is shared to other group members even in background and while your device is locked.

- Recording workout and route can now be closed to background, while changing base map or other settings in the app, and the button pulses to indicate active recording. Track drawing is also kept in memory while the drawing panel is closed so that you can continue with it later.

- Inverted or grayscale color filters for the base map under app settings. Colour filter can be set to automatically activate only when dark mode is enabled. This helps to make some maps appear darker, which may be preferable with dark mode. It can also save battery with OLED screens.

Nice interface, syncs across devices, respects your privacy
I was looking for an app to replace Gaia GPS, due to concerns about their privacy practices after they joined Outside… and was really pleased to find this nice suite of apps by an indie developer who really gets the privacy issue! It has a nice, consistent interface across iPhone, iPad and Mac and I can drop GPX files into the Kartasto folder in iCloud and my data become instantly available on all my devices. But be warned, it’s primarily an app for viewing your waypoints and tracks on a map and has only limited navigation features.
