Description

LapTrak is a running activity tracker with specific features & programmes for speed/interval/lap training.

Using LapTrak, activities are tracked using the LapTrak iPhone or Apple Watch app (Watch based activities are sync'd to the LapTrak iPhone app when complete) and viewed on the iPhone app. You don't need an Apple Watch to use LapTrak, but if you have one you can leave your iPhone at home!

LapTrak integrates with HealthKit and the Health & Activity apps to ensure that your efforts contribute to your daily activities. It integrates with Strava so you can upload your activity with a single click. You can also export an activity in the TCX format to upload to most sports platforms.

LapTraks core feature is its ability to track & analyse the individual laps of your workout, regardless of their time or distance. You can chose whether to track manually with the large lap button, or let a training programme automatically do this.

Using the free Classic Laps programme, you can manually or automatically track your laps. This programme supports configurable auto-lap distance, so you can do repeating shorts sprints or repeating longer intervals. You can use this programme to see your KM or mile splits over a longer run and can even setup halfway-point & gel-reminders.

If you need more specific interval-style workouts, you can upgrade to other programmes via your iPhone. These will then be available directly on your watch, with custimsable settings to guide and motivate your through your workout. Available programmes are:

- Lap repeats - Configure fast + recovery laps by time, distance or dynamic location.
- Pyramis laps - Configure fast + recovery laps by increasing then reducing time or distance.
- Tabata - 8 laps of 20 second sprints with 10 second recovery.
- Tempo - Run at a comfortably hard pace based on a recent 5K time. Highly configurable.
- Yasso 800s - Predict and train towards your target marathon time.

Instant interval and current total summaries are given when the LAP button is tapped or automatically if you've enable AutoLap or running a programme. LapTrak has the option to give spoken feedback too. It's easy to see the overall stats of your run - just tap the screen during your activity to switch to total stats.

Tracking your activity with LapTrak is identical on either iPhone or Apple Watch - all programmes are fully featured on both.

LapTrak has a built-in cadence training aid. Set the target cadence and LapTrak provides audio feedback to help you run at that cadence.

At the end of your run, you get an instant breakdown of your activity - LapTrak automatically detects your fast intervals and shows your overall stats alongside your fast interval stats.

You can view your activity stats on the LapTrak iPhone app where you'll get comprehensive summary stats for your overall run and the individual intervals of your training session.

LapTrak has an interactive map of your session where you can get a summary of each interval by tapping on the place where you tapped the LAP button. If you've been running sprints back and forth or around a track, LapTrak groups points that are close together and shows a table of stats.

LapTrak will show you statistics and graphs of your overall activity distance, pace and elevation and can automatically identify fast, recovery and rest intervals.

Using LapTraks huge stats table, you can see interval splits for pace, distance, time, cumulative distance & time, lap rank, elevation, heart rate and cadence. You can also select a specific interval to see where it ranked overall and deep dive into it's stats including a detailed pace graph.

Proud of your run? There are 2 types of sharing views, including one with lots of stats for social media sharing.

Other features - heart rate and cadence tracking, support KMs and miles, pause & auto-pause, optional warmup and cooldown, highly configurable.

LapTrak V4 brings activity tracking direct to the iPhone. You no longer need an Apple Watch to use LapTrak and all features of the Apple Watch app are available on the iPhone app, including all programmes. Now you can choose to track on iPhone or Apple Watch (if you have one).

The Lap Repeats programme has been given an upgrade. You can now track by dynamic location on both fast and recovery laps. Simply set the metric to location and tap the lap button to set a dynamic location point. Return to that point to trigger a lap automatically. This feature is fully supported in both the iPhone and Apple Watch app.

The Classic Laps programme (free with LapTrak) now includes a handy half-way point reminder to motivate you on those long runs!

This release also contains numerous small improvements and bug fixes.

2.8
2021-09-09
LapTrak version 2.8 adds the following new features:

- Optional warmup and cooldown laps for every activity type. There's now no need to stop and start new activities for warmup and cooldown - they can be included in the activity itself. Don't worry though - from a stats perspective the warmup and cooldown are separated from the activity itself. When uploading to Strava, LapTrak will allow you to upload warmup and cooldowns as separate activities so your stats remain correct.

- Yasso 800s programme. The famous marathon time predictor and training programme. 10 intervals of 800m at a pace calculated from your target marathon time, with a rest interval in-between. LapTrak calculates your fast and recovery pace and time based on your target marathon time. You can also set the number of intervals so you can work towards the 10-interval programme target. And don't forget you can now build in a warmup and cooldown into the programme.

- Internal improvements and bug fixes.

During your run, simply swipe from left to right to access the new activity control screen. From there you can pause/resume, discard or end your activity. If you want to end the activity but exclude the data from the current lap, there's an option for that too - this option means you don't have to scramble for the stop button at the end of a targetted run.
2.5.0
2020-12-18
LapTrak version 2.5 adds the ability to export activity data in TCX format.

Now as well as direct Strava integration, you can use TCX Export to sync to your favourite fitness platform.

The TCX format is a widely supported fitness format created by Garmin. Most fitness apps and platforms support the ability to import activities via a TCX file.

With LapTraks TCX Export feature (accessed in the Share & Sync view for your activity) you can export the TCX data. Save it to your computer, or direct into Files on your phone, then import your activity direct in to your fitness platform of choice.

Popular platforms that support TCX import are:
- MapMyRun
- Garmin Connect
- RunKeeper
- Endomondo

Now you can use LapTrak and it's programmes to guide you on runs then sync to your favourite fitness platform.

LapTrak version 2.4 adds the following new features:

- Pause/Auto pause. You can now manually pause any activity direct from the Watch context menu. You can also enable auto-pause to automatically pause when you stop. When paused your watch will gently vibrate to remind you that you're currently paused.

- Tempo run programme. Build your speed and strength by incorporating a tempo run into your weekly workout. LapTrak's tempo run programme calculates the best pace for your tempo run based on your most recent 5k time (entered directly on the watch). This highly configurable programme lets you choose a target time or distance for your activity. The programme has a built in warmup and cooldown and you can configure the split between warmup & tempo time. You can also configure the number of tempo intervals in the activity up to 3.

- Not tried any LapTrak programmes before? Now's the time as you can buy all programmes in one bundle at a discounted price.

- You can now tidy up your activities from the phone by deleting unwanted activities. Select an activity to delete, scroll to the bottom and tap the big red button.

- If you want to run LapTrak alongside another Apple Watch activity app, you can now disable HealthKit tracking in the settings.

- Various small tweaks and improvements.

- There's a new Lap Pace Calculation option in the Watch settings. You can choose from Average (average over the current lap) or Current (average of the last 15 seconds). Average is what LapTrak always had. Current reflects the pace you're doing right now.

1.2.0
2020-02-10
LapTrak version 1.2 adds the following new features:

- You can now choose whether to track each activity in kilometres or miles from the LapTrak watch app activity settings. The watch activity display will show the chosen units as will the activity when viewed on your iPhone. AutoLap will either lap at each kilometre or each mile, depending on the chosen unit. This settings applies to individual activities, so it's possible to record one activity in miles and the next in kilometres.

- Just finished an activity and want to see a lap-by-lap breakdown? Well now you can from the LapTrak watch app Previous Activity view. Just swipe right-to-left from the start screen to see a full breakdown of the last activity you did.

- There are now 2 ways to complete your activity. You can still long-press the activity screen, but now there's another button on the in-activity settings screen (swipe right-to-left on your run) that will let you complete your activity.

- If you're on a long run using AutoLap, you might not want to record those accidental taps of the lap button. You can now disable the lap button from the LapTrak watch settings screen.

Additionally there's a couple of tweaks and fixes.
1.1.0
2020-01-20
LapTrak 1.1 adds the ability to upload your activities straight to Strava. Once you've logged in to your account from the settings screen, each activity can be uploaded with a single tap.

Also added is a cadence training aid. From the settings in the Apple Watch app, set the desired target cadence and LapTrak will use audio cues to help you run at your chosen cadence.

Finally, the user interface has been imnproved, giving a cleaner look.

Ktigger2,
Doesn’t work well on AWS2 38mm
The screen is buggy on my watch. The lap button is below the screen on my watch and I’m not able to push it easily. Because of that I also couldn’t end the run easily either. Also like previous reviewer said, I’d like to change the units. I was looking for a lap counter for my indoor track runs this winter. This isn’t the app for that.
WM23,
Will Update my review once I try it
Will Update my review my
Only suggestion is giving the ability to change the units of measurement to miles or meters as options too.
